    Major props for trying something new like Okinawan bitter melon! It's definitely an acquired taste. No one warned me about the bitterness of the melon the first time I tried it in Okinawa haha (my mom's side of the family is from Okinawa). It grew on me though! Best way I had it in Okinawa was bitter melon ice cream. I believe it was from a company called Blue Seal Ice Cream. It sounds unappetizing but it was delicious! It wasn't bitter at all, really creamy. It tasted like a cucumber melon. The best! Perhaps you can hunt down a good recipe online. If I had one, I'd 100% pass it your way.

      Appreciate you ✊🏼. And yea the only thing I expected was bitter, just didn’t know how much lol. That ice cream sounds interesting though but I could see how it wouldn’t be bitter since the juice I blended pretty much wasn’t bitter either. I will look for that! 👍🏼

    Thanks for trying this and putting it up! I've been thinking of growing it, I think I'll avoid it only because I saw how high it climbed your tree - it would take over my house!

    This was a great video! I bought bitter melon seeds this year on a whim cuz they looked interesting but now it’s harvest time and I have no idea what to do with them 🤣 this was very helpful, Definitely subscribing for more!

      Apologies for my late response and thanks! I bought the seeds on a whim as well lol. They wouldn’t be my main go to but I did save some seeds to use for later.

      Glad you could find value in it! I’ve heard a few times about having it that way so maybe I’ll try that one of these days!

      @@eatthecanvas I want to let them turn orange and try it, also try the red seed gel if the season permits here in NC. Thanks for the video again. I love all your unusual vegetables

    • @eatthecanvas
      @eatthecanvas  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@snugglebunny.jmosbrook I recently let it mature to its orange color and tried it. It’s a tad less bitter and as for the red pulp around the seeds, it wasn’t as sweet as I thought it would be but it was cool to try. I will def keep growing even if just for the health benefits alone and to keep accumulating seeds from it.

      @@hoangkimle8697 I got them online from a place called Bakers Creek. I believe the website name is rareseeds.com
      Searching any of those will bring you to their website.

    I used to harvest them when they were white, but I waited too long on some, and they turned orange, and they were not bitter at all! They had super sweet seeds inside that you eat the red outside and then the seeds are inside. It was actually quite good once it was ripe. I am trying your juice recipe with a ripe white bitter melon. I think it’s going to be amazing.

      I am late lol but yes I had a few orange ones as well with 1 on purpose to save the seeds. Might be planting this again soon too!

    You can slice it very thin and deep fry like potato chip, sprinkle salt . It won't be bitter.

    When the tissue that wraps around the seeds turns red, people say it tastes like cherries.

    The question is, is the bitter the medicine? I have these seeds & now I know that I'll be juicing it

    • @eatthecanvas
      @eatthecanvas  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      More than likely is. We got medicine all around us in different forms.

    • @johntheawsomeful
      @johntheawsomeful ปีที่แล้ว

      @@eatthecanvas I only wonder that because most alkaloids I've consumed from plants are super bitter & heat usually destroys a lot of the good stuff we need.
      Some stuff that's bitter is just an irritant or toxin though
