    • @LilSirAxolotl
      @LilSirAxolotl 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Also commented the same thing 😂 scrolling down and for some reason a bunch of people had the same thought... Nothing against Rob personally but I don't enjoy his videos with Lee... Their playing styles don't match and I hate it when Lee is explaining specs etc. and Rob is just shredding over it, goofing around and saying "Yeeeeah!" a lot... Not only do I enjoy Pete's playing a lot more... his style compliments Lee's much better as well

    • @rscotthopson
      @rscotthopson 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      TLDR: I like Rob and am not throwing shade, just realized I prefer the Pete+Lee experience.
      Yeah, it's not that I dislike Rob, but Lee and Pete have great chemistry which carries more mundane videos like these.
      Rob does super on wacky stuff like blindfold challenges, finding setups for friends or certain budgets, singing Japanese pedals and dressing like hair metal stars. Sadly they've seemed to tone down the wonky stuff, either because the channel is maturing or Rob is getting busy with all the other things he does. I think just talking about gear like this, it feels more natural with Lee+Pete

      Scott Hopson I like Chapman. He seems like a fun dude to hang around, and I’ve heard him play some gorgeous, melodic stuff on other channels. I got a blue DC Tribute Jr before Christmas as they were released here in the US in small numbers in a slightly different configuration (input jack on the pickguard), last fall. Let me say, it is an absolute beast and has become my go-to axe for sitting and messing about on the couch. I know that purists have taken offence to the the pickguard mounted pick-up, and I'd prefer if it was drilled into the front, like the originals, but I'm here to tell ya, if anyone is on the fence, don't be...these things absolutely RAWK! And they are much more versatile than you might think. I love P90's and I really dig these guitars. Great playing lads! And Lee, damn, your playing has really blown up - kudos!

      I've got one of those 'early batch' models too, in ebony. I got it for a clear out discount price at a big european retailer. I think they were making room for the new batch with the re-located input. Alot of the purists didn't care for these Tributes because of the pickguard saying it wasn't proper Jr or Special.
      It had to grow on me but it also reminds me of those obscure models Gibson did in the 70's and early 80's, like the Marauder, S1, Challanger and Sonex. Or maybe even the Melody Makers from the 60's.
      They're just fun guitars to jam out on. I even dare to say my Tribute feels more lively to play compaired to my 2020 Junior singlecut. I don't know how much of that has to do with the construction (sc vs dc) or the maple neck on the Tribute or the difference in finish between the 2.

    I received my junior today. Honestly, I've been sleeping on these guitars. First I thought the one pickup wouldn't work for me or that it would be to thin or bright. Lately I was looking for a P90 guitar and a single pickup one seemed interesting all of a sudden. Since these models seem to be discontinued they're being sold for cheap now, so I thought I'd give it a try. Got a junior in ebony (the brown one was sold out and the cherry was €100 more expensive). The fretboard needed some oil, but it feels, plays and sounds really awesome! I can recommend it, and I'm not easily impressed by a guitar anymore.

    There's something just so right about the sound and feel of these. I think what it does is these guitars strip away any pre-conceived tones of fancier guitars and what's left is your own personal sound. And that keeps you honest. It doesn't sound or feel like the Martin EM-18 I played for most of my youth. Or my favorite Telecasters, although it's close because a plain Tele shares much of the same concept. My Dots sound like a Dot. My traditional LPs have a distinct LP vibe. The Strat I've been playing the last 24 years... same. These are a blank slate sonically and the older I get, I prefer that more and more. I guess when I reach the absolute pinnacle of my tone, I'll be playing a diddley bow.

    Everyone tends to complain about the price of Gibson but at least they have models under 1,000$ fender doesn’t have anything made in the USA for under 1,000. Also it’s nice that they have a single pickup and double pickup version of the double cut.

    • @ardskoay
      @ardskoay 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Christopher Kaesemeyer I see your point about the price. But some find this finish to be tacky and cheap. I haven’t seen this version of the 2019, but I looked at an earlier 2019. It was in such bad shape. The nut had excess material hanging around the strings, there was a finish crack along the neck about 2 inches long and the frets were rough. Low prices are nice, but it doesn’t matter if it is made in America if it’s worse than a $150 overseas guitar.

    • @aaron99man
      @aaron99man 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ardskoay Whichever one you "looked at" was an anomaly I assure you. Mine came perfect out of the box. The finish is not tacky and cheap. Mine is a tone monster, light as a feather. I've talked to many others who have one and none of them have problems and all love them.

    Amen, I’ve got two + the tribute bass. Love them all. I strayed to fenders for 22 yrs due to the fact the Gibsons were too Gibsony, too rough for most of that bands genre. That band is history and all the Fender strats, teles and jazz basses are retired now. I’m back with my real babies ! Enjoying every minute of rehearsal and gigs

    Pete should have mentioned Leslie West live at Woodstock, 1969, jamming it out on "Southbound Train" with MOUNTAIN. Now that is what a Les Paul Jnr. with one P90 pick up can sound like in the right hands.

    I just last week scooped up the blue Special DC at Zzounds for $528. It was listed as 'Blemished' but still had the film on the pickguard and looked unplayed. The inspection tag read "June 5, 2019". I don't know where this guitar has been for the last 13 months and I DON'T CARE. This is an incredible axe! Previously I've owned five Gibsons and have sold or returned five Gibsons. This one is definitely staying with me. My 5th Gibson was a 2020 Special in cherry that had a giant gouge in the neck binding like someone sneezed while scraping the binding. Also the pickups and/or covers were loose and the guitar howled like mad with the gain cranked. I sent it back and got this for one third of the price and it's actually a better specimen. (I also prefer the slim taper neck - I don't have big monkey hands like Jimmy Page.)
    I will be yanking the capacitor off the tone control and giving the geetar dual volume controls. I play mainly in the middle position and can adjust tone via the balance between the two pups.

    I think I've finally developed somewhat of an ear for these comparisons. The double pickup guitar sounded brighter to my ears as well. My guess would be the difference is in the wiring more than the slab of wood or pull of magnets between the two, and/or perhaps pickup height. But then again, it's hard to isolate these factors. Nice job!

    I bought the blue stain Jr. yesterday. OMG!!! What a strangely versatile guitar! I am loving it, and I'm actually more of a fender guy myself. But I love the punch of a P90. Is there anything magical about having only one pup in it like Phil X believes? I don't know. But 3 weeks ago I bought the Epiphone Double Cut Pro in Faded Mojave. I absolutely love that guitar, but honestly, I think Jr. is gonna be sitting on the stand and jamming through the Champ more than anything else!! The fact that you can play everything from Jazz to metal, and everything in between, with a simple slab, stick and a sprinkling of basic old skool electronics, should make everyone else take notice. I wish Epi would make a Jr or special with P90's instead of cheap HB's... Bob in Germany

I love the traditional and it’s definitely my favorite guitar, but that Jr was one of the best sounding guitars I’ve ever heard and I miss it so much! It’s the one that got away for me so far :(

    Even with the 'same' pickups, there are a lot of variants with pickups that could account for stuff like that. It's one of the reasons why some people really like Fishman pickups. They are far more consistent due to the way they are built. That's not to discredit your test at all though. I prefer a single humbucker and I do believe guitars with 'less' pickups would have more sustain compared to the same guitar with 'more' pickups.
