    Thanks so very much for this tutorial. Because of it I was able to save myself a ton of money to get it cleaned, while learning a new skill altogether

    Should've seen this video before other ... messed up my lens unscrewing the middle component group with a plier (the other tutorial didn't show it was glued with thread-lock).
    In order to try and repair it I disassembled the aperture compartment, would you PLEASE show a how to reassemble this component video? Or do you have any useful instructions?
    Thank you in advance!

    What screw driver did you use. I bought a kit on Amazon but the screws are still stuck

    nice lens indeeed ! - works grate with nikon d3100 dslr . or other crop sensor nikons ,
    you will need to lock the auto lighting/ exposure (ae lock) setting in the camera to really use it in manual mode ,

    What part of this lens do I clean if the focus is stiff? Is it the same place where you wiped grease off? If so, do I have to reapply grease afterwards and what kind do I use?

    I have a Nikon D3000, will an E lens work ok in manual mode bearing in mind that metering wont work on that camera ? Is it an easy task to learn how to use an old lens like the Nikon E lens on my camera ?

      Basically learn how to meter with your eye, or use a light meter app. Other cameras offer ttl metering but not Nikon, especially on vintage lenses, using them will be slower but it really allows you to put full effort on your photographs rather than just shooting on full automatic, shooting thousands and only actually using 6 pictures.

    What solvent is used to remove the 2nd element from the 1st + 2nd element assembly?

    • @javier7high
      @javier7high 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I know this comment is old but maybe it will be useful for somebody now.
      If the assembly is metal you can use acetone, but avoid using acetone if you see it iis some kind of plastic, acetone eats through plastic. In that case you could use isopropyl alcohol.
      I would go with isopropyl since it is also safe for the glass.

    I have a question.. I bought this lens on ebay for really cheap, it's razor sharp but won't focus to infinity.. I suspect it was reassessed incorrectly.. How can i fix this problem? Tanks a lot!

      Do you believe the less was opened and wrongly put together ?
      Is this the case ?

    • @EtaCarinae230
      @EtaCarinae230 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! I think that the elicoid was screwed in incorrectly and this prevents the infinity focus.. But i don't know if there are some marks on the chassis to align correctly the elicoid..

    • @plenusimage9748
      @plenusimage9748  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most probably there are no marks. If you can take the lens apart and follow my instruction on my other video (link bellow) around minute 11:30, you will see how to assemble it again in the right position.
      Put the lens ( front part ) and the helicoid in a position that you just have to screw less then 90 degrees, aligning the holes where the "guides" have to enter.

      Don´t be afraid to do it. Just be patient. Very patient.
      An use the the right tools.

      Plenus Image tanks but i think i solved.. I unscrewed the elicoid rotate the barrel 180° and re screwed.. Now can focus to infinity.. Maybe there is a slight difference in the travel that solve the problem..

    Hello, my lens seems to have gotten some sugar/salt like material in between the focus parts, do I just clean it like you showed and put on new grease? Or do you recommend another way

    • @plenusimage9748
      @plenusimage9748  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should work. But there are materials that react with water, so be careful. About the grease ... you should use specific grease. I have learn this the hard way. Not all grease are ok, some of then just go to into the lens and others get "hard" with time.

      It all depends on the country you are. It should not cost much since the less are simple and with no electronics.

      Maybe in the next videos. English is not my main language and I have tried to make a video that everyone can understand.
      Thanks for the suggestion.

      Not everyone speaks English, and not everyone is good at it as well (as you have proven yourself)

    Sure would be more useful with some narration! You keep pointing at things with no explanation.
