You're welcome, I'd say marking things is not a tip, it is fundamental !!! Best

Hey can you show us how to calibrate to infinity. I followed your directions but it seems off. Can you walk us through that?

Hello, I'll try to do that in a future video, I need to see if I have one of those around.

Thanks for the video. But I can't past the disassembly of the rear element in 17:36

put a few drops of nail polish remover on the gaps and let is sit for a while, it should be easier to descrew, cheers.

vintage nikkor 50mm or 85mm at F/2 is my favorite lens of all time.
It is amazing the quality of manufacture!

you're right, nothing to do with today lenses, even high end ones. You should try the 20mm f/4 if you have the opportunity, great lens.

Well I had a well meaning friend who borrowed my lens and decided to "repair" it for me". The lens is a Nikon 50mm f1.8. The friend disassembled everything without marking anything. The helicoid is the issue, I have no idea how to reassemble the helicoid without marks. Do you have suggestions as to how I can reassemble the helicoid without the proper marks.

Hi, this is going to take time but here is how to proceed. Mount the lens and check for infinity, it does not work. Ok, disassemble and mark that position as wrong (use a permanent marker), repeat for another position until finding the correct one. It would take time but at the end, you'll be able to disassemble the lens blindfolded. Your friend should invite you for dinner or a drink. Best

are the 28 2.8 ai, and 35 2.8 ai similar assembly and be taken apart and cleaned the same way?

Honestly, I have never done those lenses. If you move the focus ring and the complete optical assembly moves along, then it is very probable they have a very similar construction.

@@diyextravaganza Thank you for your answer. I saw that brand in the video. My question about the color was in case I can't quickly find that one, so I would find another brand to replace it. This is why I'd like to know the color. Thank you

@@christianmonnet9137 Hi, it's more about the properties than the color itself. Take a look at the one I propose and try to find an equivalent to that, there is for sure something.

@@diyextravaganza Well, color matters some bit, as brown grease won't be used for plastic mechanisms (as in CD, tape players...) unlike white grease. Thank you for your time and answers. Regards.
