  • I have yet to find a video that really focuses on the ways MHRise is lacking. Given how excited I was for the game I feel a responsibility to also talk about the ways in which it was disappointing.
    This video is an attempt to give a measured critique of the game.

      well, I guess to put it to some degree, Monster hunter rise, or MH in general does technically have a "difficulty slider"
      its called armor spheres lol.

      haha...how you point out I was able to make such animated content due to the "challenge"
      yes, thats how it works to some degree lol. key moments in world like HR49, Velkhana demo, behemoths are the stuff and material I am able to adapt and make into skits.
      >NCH makes only 2 rise skits for this year
      >while it maybe that Rise was indeed "not enough material to make skits out of the experience"
      >the other reason I just want to wean myself away from MH content for the time being and "do the stuff I want to do" so most of my rise skit ideas i planned are thrown into the backburner....but yeah I can be frank, most of my rise skit ideas are just jokes on comparing the mechanics, other than that, just not sure I got the experience I can adapt into a funny skit like how my world's experience was lol.
      you got me there mr squirrel guy lmao.
      (also another irony to add, the Monster hunter MOVIE, actually gave me an experience I actually enjoyed that I wanted to adapt and make a full feature 20min long animated retelling of it, thats why I threw my rise skits into the backburner to work on the MHMovie reanimated... which is my current most fun MH skit I've worked on)

      I haven’t made any friends online on Switch sadly enough. I swear with some of the hate Worldborne gets, the thing they absolutely nailed it was the lobby system. Sure 16 people was excessive but I met a lot of great people and the online friends I’m close with now, we talk as if we’ve known each other for years even tho they live in China and Japan. Thanks for making this video! I agree with your points. Rise is an amazing game, but there’s not really much to do after you’ve reached the end. Whenever I played Rise with online friends, we’d always have trouble picking the mission we’d want to do. It would always end up with something like “You choose the quest, John.” “No no, you choose. I’ve done all the quests and gotten all the materials.” “Okay, you choose then, Jane.” “It’s okay, I’m just here to follow you guys. I don’t have any particular quest I’d like to do,” and then we’d just end up slaughtering Rajang for the hundredth time and sell all the quest rewards to get rich lol. Eventually, I stopped playing the game and it’s been a month since I last played it.
    On a positive note, I’m glad that I got burnt out from this game, so I could play other games instead haha. When I played MHW, I couldn’t move on to playing other games, so I missed out on a lot. OT but now I’m currently playing Ghost of Tsushima and wow, this game has so much content to explore! (yes I know I’m super late, I had to wait for a discount okay *sobs*)
    Btw I used your guides in the past to learn about the long sword since it's not my main weapon. I didn't realise that this video is made by the same person. No wonder the voice sounds familiar 😂

      @@daviddorner6806 I disagree. Not saying that you're not right in some regard but you're either ignoring or undermining things just to elevate your point. Base game will always be more "underwhelming" in terms of content than the ultimate version but it's not just them intentionally making it so. I don't think you're taking in account how much more stuff they have to develop in the base game. Most of the mechanics, locales, characters and systems are made for the base game. The MR expansion on the other hand can purely focus on adding monsters and so on. The base game is what lays foundation for the MR expansion to build on, you can't just ignore that.
      Also, there's nothing wrong about releasing updates gradually. It keeps the game fresh, changes the meta, gives us something to look forward to so the community keeps having fun discussions and most importantly *lets them have more development time overall.* This also means that they can develop the updates with less workers and shift some of their devs into planning the next title or other games. Iceborne for example was already in development before World even released.
      And let's not forget that these updates are all free and even the MR expansion which comes with as much gameplay content as base game costs $40 instead of full $60, or so it was with Iceborne anyways. If you think they're being greedy with this I don't know what to tell you. Capcom's MH team is very consumer friendly compared to most companies.
      However I have to agree on the paid DLC stuff. It seems that Capcom is starting to experiment on alot of paid cosmetics which could instead be in the game and tied to event quests for example. For now it's not outrageous but I really hope it doesn't get worse from here ...it probably will.

    • @The_Big_Jay
      @The_Big_Jay 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@daviddorner6806 They only made "Ultimate" versions when an update to add the planned content would be unfeasible. For example, Generations to Generations Ultimate (Or Cross to Double Cross if you prefer the original names) both originally released on the 3DS where updates were limited to bug fixes and that's it. The 3DS had no room for a free DLC update, like we're seeing with Rise, or even a Paid DLC update like Iceborne. Same goes for MH4 and 4U. I'm sure that if Rise gets a large scale expansion like Iceborne, then they will probably release a special physical version that comes with the full copy of the game, and the G-Rank addition all in a bundle for like 70 bucks, but for all of us who already have it, you'll be able to buy it from the eShop for no more than $14.99. I also can't say that the base game of MH Rise is truly lacking in content.

      I remembered putting majority of my time in a day in iceborne because of the sheer amount of content, challenge, and absolute fury I had for the bullshit mechanics.
      But it was those moments and challenges that made me come back each time. I remember having a miserable time for my first Bazel fight and I would've quit right there but the satisfaction in killing it was euphoric.
      I came to Rise, a lot better with LS and CB. I was undergeared with just a full barroth set, surprise axe II, and only 2 rapid morph decos. I fought Bazel first try and, even though I fainted twice, won it. Those two faints were me being greedy with axe hopper since it was a new mechanic.
      here I am with 90 hours in my gameplay, I have a near maximized raw CB. Chameleos and kushala were not hard to deal with at all, even disappointed at kushala. Teostra was slightly harder than his world counter part, and Valstrax was actually enjoyable with how fast he was. Besides that, I am just finishing all my quests and collecting every CB and LS. After that? idk, I am losing my grip with this game and only playing like... 2 hours nowadays compared to my 6-8 hours/day of agonizing pain with Safi'Jiiva.

    I think the best example of the decrease in difficulty in Rise would be simply comparing Rajang from previous games to its appearance in Rise. In previous games, it was _legendarily_ difficult, one of the roaming terrors like Deviljho that were just an absolute nightmare to face; a monster that you would typically flee from at all costs if it wasn't the main objective in the quest. But, in Rise, it's sort of just a regular monster on par with other monsters of its rank. Honestly, I think Rathalos is tougher in Rise than Rajang is.
    The biggest culprit in affecting how easy Rajang is imo would be the decrease in damage mentioned in this video. Previously, Rajang was notorious for hitting you with a quick flurry of punches and just *clocking* you for 3/4 of your health bar if you didn't get outta there. But in Rise, he doesn't even do 1/2 of your health. You can kinda just take the hit even if you aren't at full health, drink a potion, and get back to it. The punishment for messing up in his fight is so much less severe that it takes most of the threat away from him.

    • @gavinryan8895
      @gavinryan8895 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      The first quest I did in high rank there was a Rajang on the map. Of course at the time it was just a question mark so I went to check it out and ended up messing around and picking a fight with it. Low and behold with low rank armor I was able to defeat the rajang though it wasn’t a pretty victory. In no monster hunter game ever should I be able to beat high rank rajang with low rank armor and weapons.

    My first game was generations for the 3DS and I feel the two most recent entries World and Rise have something missing from the Monster Hunter formula, everything has been streamlined. Autocrafting, Paintballs were removed, free power ups scattered around the map, even other monsters help you win fights now. I feel a lot of people consider these changes to be quality of life but for me... it just makes the hunts less satisfying. I didn't track the monster, I didn't craft the supplies in order to take down my quarry, no. I just loaded into a level and beat up an animal for the 7th time for its 12% drop. The thing that makes these games satisfying for me is the thrill of the hunt.

    I agree with some parts, especially the endgame part, but I think some things miss the mark. The Miyazaki interview is mentioned in defense of the shared experience of the base difficulty of the game, but Dark Souls difficulty is baked into the game design, with grinding/pyromancies/miracles/sorceries/summoning/alternate paths/drake sword/early lightning spear type stuff to help you modulate your difficulty, without restricting yourself (slvl1 runs). Even games without as many choices, like Bloodborne and Sekiro, still allow this. MH is less elastic and more linear in its shared experience, so when it makes allowances like the item restocking it feels worse than it actually is.
    Also, even though it's not directly mentioned in the video, there are some people that take Rise as the next step of MH after World, when it's more of a sidestep into something different, like Generations was.
    But what I think the game should do in regards to difficulty is make it more interesting, with things like investigations. Maybe even new types, with a monster so agressive you find your item box destroyed at camp, or something of that nature.

    I think difficulty is kinda what's holding the MH community (the fact that we don't talk that much in lobbys anymore) in older games playing solo online made the monster harder and when you couldn't beat it having player to help you was a relief, and created a bond that we can still have with some of them today ! Having a scalling multiplayer just make the monster harder to kill when people come... Personnaly when I try to help people in the old fashion way by trying to communicate, I don't get responses often and the fact that they mostly all have the sos flare just made it harder and for them it's the way to play because they are learning/farming

    The main thing I didn't like about Rise is what it did to the hunting horn. There's just nothing left to master. The HH in Iceborne was my main motivation for playing. I kept wanting to do better with it, to use every move to its full potential, playing songs in the monster's face and planning ahead for my next recital. The new moves in Rise are cool and all, but they don't make up for all that's been lost. It just feels way more straightforward, there's no real thought involved and choosing the perfect move for each situation is very easy (It's usually recital). I LOVED Kamura, the new combat system and the atmosphere, but I only get sad when I think about Rise now because I know my Weapon isn't in it.

    • @willjulian6040
      @willjulian6040 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a hunting horn main, when I saw the new style that they implemented on the HH i was hyped and was happy that it is getting recognized by many, but the thing is, some hunters picked it up NOW when it got a massive upgrade but wouldn't pick the weapon up before, I highly agree with the planning ahead of time for what notes to use, thus really making us use our brains and it's a good thing. Don't get me wrong tho I really like how aggressive it is in rise and it looks sick, I'll just miss who it used to be, a hunter once mentioned in a comment that 'before, no one wants to be the hunting horn user, but it is what they want to have in a hunt'. But yeah... I will miss it being called the least used weapon and all that stuff cuz that's lowkey the reason why I picked it up in the first place.

    I appreciate your well reasoned and heartfelt critique.
    I was introduced to Monster Hunter by a friend. I too started with World and then progressed organically to Iceborne.
    I went into Rise with the fresh and exhilarating experience of having slain Fatalis and farmed him for armor and weapon crafting/upgrades. Worse (in my experience), was goddamned Arch-Tempered Velkhana in Iceborne, the 30-min event quest.
    I'm not a speedrunner, I"m not great at Monster Hunter, but I'm stubborn.
    I hated that Velkhana fight. I loved that fight. It was perfect, in my opinion, and took everything in me to solo it.
    There is nothing like that in Rise and it breaks my heart.
    To add context, I am the kind of individual who will attach to a game and play it until there is nothing left, often setting arbitrary goals for myself.
    I went into MH World and vowed to craft every single piece of gear.
    A pointless goal and one which I did not, could not as a newbie, appreciate the scope of.
    I never completed that goal, despite a valiantly foolish early effort. I played World/Iceborne for around 1300 hours. I ended around MR 400-ish.
    As of today's date, I have reached HR 359 in Rise, I have crafted all of the Low Rank and High Rank gear for my hunter, all of the layered armor for my hunter, all of the Palico and Palamute armor, and all of the Palico and Palamute layered armor. This includes those sets given by Event Quests. I've only played Rise for 397:51:00.
    With what I experienced in World/Iceborne, i.e. the arbitrary, exponential hell that is attempting to craft all armor and layered armor, the fact that I have done this in Rise and have only played for roughly a third of the time howls volumes. I know there's a lot wrong with the comparison, i.e. the fact that World/Iceborne has a Master rank along with Alpha/Beta sets, amongst others, but these distinctions between World/Iceborne relative to Rise are kind of the point, I think.
    I love Rise and am excited for Sunbreak.
    It just could have been so much more.

I barely had the energy to fight Valtrax because I know as soon as I did the game would be dead to me until the next big update. MHS2 Had so much content to it and a things to keep me invested even if some parts are a bit too grindy. Rise I made a set that worked, made a fun set, and then the 5 weapons I wanted. I'm done. What I'd like to see, is just more and a slight increase in difficulty, being able to play the game and have to be careful. Like the Valstrax hunt. It's not my favorite hunt. But it has the perfect difficulty imo, it's not insane, but you need to learn and be careful
      Id like to see a fun, rewarding loop, when all is said and done. I think the Ultimate expansion could do this, without Hyper Monster style bs or the weirdly grindy bits of Deviants from GU.

In MHR, I have 1 set for all monsters, and just adjust my weapon. And sometimes not even that. The loop in MHW was so much better. Need a certain resistance? Farm the lower end monsters and slowly build up to the best set for the tough monster. In MHR, just randomly pick any armor and win the game.

      Honestly I'm waiting for the PC version, I spent about 2000 hours in World/IB altogether but that was partly because of the gameplay loop. I don't mind the melding pot in Rise but I felt more need to grind in World/IB and didnt mind it because I'd get something that could benefit me through the decoration system in tempered investigations, while In Rise that feeling is behind waiting to see what your meld gives.
      If Rise had a similar system the way investigations were, the gameplay loop IMO would be better.
      I like to grind, I like a reason to hunt monsters. But personally, for me at least the melding pots just felt off to me on top of the millions of combinations compared to the small pool World/IB had.
      I feel the main difference is that World/IB went with an MMORPG style and Rise is more traditional. I'm not saying one is bad or better than the other, I love big, but as someone who plays MMORPGs I'm much more used to the grind for gear in an MMO comparable to Decos in MH the way World and IB did it than how Rise did.
      I must also let it be known I've been playing MH since MHFU and have played every game since then, so this isn't some "world baby" comparison.
      For me, I feel World/IB just delivered my desired gameplay loop, one that made me choose what I dedicated my time to. I realize its not for everyone, but this is just my opinion more than anything.

I by no means regret buying Rise, but I feel unsatisfied with the new monsters - both their lack of numbers in favour of old monsters (I feel a 50/50 split between new and old doesn’t give a chance for new monsters to shine) and their overall quality. You explained exactly how I feel!

    That tempered Kirin fight has been etched into my soul. World is my first real monster hunter experience and once I picked up the chargeblade, I never put it down. Up to that point I was the guy that spammed SAEDs for every hunt.
    I was pretty good with the weapon but clearly not good enough cause that Kirin quest humbled the hell out of me. I had to watch a video to see how other people beat it and it forced me to learn to appreciate mantles other than the temporal and vitality, forced me to build specifically to counter thunder damage forced me to play the chargeblade differently and to appreciate the regular AEDs. Kirin was too fast, too small and too deadly to kill with SAED spam. If that quest wasn't that difficult, I'd have never had to even try anything other than what worked before. And I had more fun because of it. That fight was the one that made me make several builds to counter specific monsters and cover different elements

    Pretty much my thoughts exactly. I have enjoyed my time playing rise but I don't have the incentive to keep playing. sure I could grind the narwa hunt for talismans but other than that I don't feel the need to go back to it. In base world you had weapon augments that you only got access to by 1. fully upgrading your weapon and 2 only got the materials for it off of the strongest monsters in the game (ie tempered hunts). Along with that you could augment your armor as well by the same method. All of which incentivized hunting harder monsters, doing investigations for better reward drops, all the while learning every aspect of your weapon(s). To this day I still fire up world when I have some time to burn because I still enjoy the challenge the game provides. I just don't get the same feeling from rise unfortunately.

Recently I went back to monter hunter Tri, for nostalgia, and found out that it is extremely easy, even easier than world. Thank you for the video. Although I haven't played MH Rise as I can't afford a switch yet, I've played most of the older monster hunter games from Monster Hunter Freedom up to MHW: Iceborne and can say that I completely agree with what you're saying regarding the difficulty of the newer games.
    The Monster Hunter series is one of the few games out there that has GREAT replayability. In all of the titles of Monster Hunter I've played, I would always find myself making a new character for the thrill of the challenge of upgrading with different armor and weapon paths on the new run. Although this wasn't necessary since I can craft other weapons I haven't tried on my main account, there's a special feeling in trying out a different weapon and armor set on the same monster you've already fought.
    It's not just the weapons, the monsters are usually unforgettable on your first encounter as they are very unique and leave quite an impression, especially Congalala. Even now I'm still upset that Carapaceons were not present in MHW. Now, when I finished MHW base game, only a few monsters were very memorable as the earlier monsters didn't really feel like a hunt to me as they were taken care of with ease. The Kushala Daora that I knew that had a counter mechanic when hit with poison would lose the wind aura and was easier to fight in melee, was substituted with dragon seal now. When dealing with Teo and Luna, you would usually break the crown to remove the heat aura, but now dragon seal deals with that too.
    Because of this, it kinda made Immunizer useless as there was health augments and a general way to deal with elder dragons in base game (flash pods *cough*). Even the negative statuses of the armor from specific monsters felt like they were all removed altogether. As that really put me down, that wasn't enough reason to make me drop the game. Currently I'm at 2,500 hours of play time in MHW: Iceborne and I'm still playing this game. If they are to increase the complexity of monster attacks, they should balance it out as well with what's available to the hunters disposal. I fear the newer games will be easier because of this and I hope Capcom finds a way to fix or balance this before the time comes.
    Thanks again for the video and you earned my sub . . .

      Nah, it's just Rise. Yes, world was easy to MH veterans, but it was because it was made to be more newcomer-friendly, but despite that, it still had monsters that were actually hard or at least challenging when we first encountered them, such as anjanath, etc, and with iceborne, we got even more monsters that were hard or even harder than the older games. Rise has none of that.

    My biggest problem with rise is the lack of story progress. It’s basically “go hunt 4~5 random monsters so you can level up your HR”. while in world/iceborne, introductions to new monsters and maps are normally tied to the story progress which makes them unique. Rise is like the older titles which I guess most players are fine with that. However I just cannot go back after the improvements we have in world/iceborne.

I played through the game over 7 times, only using two weapons each play through (ie switch axe and charge blade, then next play through light and heavy bowgun), each play through lasting over 30 HOURS. I enjoyed every second of the game. Me feeling it was lacking was only because i wrung the living shit out of this game. If people really appreciated this game, they would realize, if you’re spending over 100 hours in a game, it’s probably really good. Always look back to when the game felt fresh, and stick with that. keep that wonder that you felt.

      I think if you stay with just the honeymoon phase a lot of games would get a pass from people, note that everyone has different ways to playing to some a 100 hours is a lot but to others that barely is enough depending on the genre you are used to playing rpg/mmo etc.
      Its completely fair to critizes the lack of incentive to keep players coming back to the game when potentially most have been able to get decent sets/build or completed all the quest. The lack of a solid endgame loop is really hurting Rise and is what has most people frustrated with the current state of the game, not out of hate for it but because they genuinely enjoy the game but have little reason to comeback to it because they have nothing left to do.

    • @zunaedanwar5620
      @zunaedanwar5620 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree that Rise is a good game. A great game. Hell, it might be my favourite MH game of all time if not for the endgame loop. I had a lot of fun with it. But I was always waiting for it to get actually difficult. Certainly there were a few monsters that weren't super easy. But I triple carted only like twice in the whole game before Valstrax.
      I feel like Valstrax is what I really want more of. Having to restart the mission 3 times and then finally just having to collect spiritbirds so I could not get destroyed by it. I can see the endgame, it's right there. They gave me a taste of it. But just one bite. I want the rest of the meal.
      I can't say I didn't get my money's worth. Because I did. I enjoyed the shit out of this game. But it's just missing that challenge. I want to feel like the best gear is just good enough to let a skilled hunter kill the strongest monsters after dying to it a few times. I don't want the best gear to trivialize the strongest monsters. With Rise, the best way I can describe the experience is that the journey is great but the destination is barren. The comment from Yian Garuga in the vid expresses this perfectly.
      On top of that, I hate how they've implemented Apex monsters. Not because they aren't good or challenging but precisely because they are good and challenging but give you nothing special for your efforts. So why bother. The hardest monsters should be the most satisfying to kill, not the least.

      The problem is that I shouldn't have to reflect to when I first began the game, I should still feel that excitement while continuing to play it. The problem with Rise is that it has no unique endgame content, such as investigations or event quests which change settings and rules for hunts. So far, if you clear every quest, all you can do is replay those quest, refighting the same monsters in the exact same environments. There's no variation once you clear the game, which makes it so that the gameplay feels repetative.

    The main thing i love about monster hunter is the game feel and the spacing combat instead of i-frame dependency. And that why rise just fails to captivate me the same way world does. Pulling of a TCS in world feels heavenly, doing it rise just doesn't feel rewarding or difficult. There is almost no screen-shake, almost no hit-slow, no cool effects to put you into the moment and even the camera work just doesn't emphasize the moment.
    It's not even only that. The GS now is so generous with the spacing and evading hits. In rise you can just use the silkbind move to negate any knockdowns and just keep on going while pairing it up with the brimstone slash just to add insult to injury. In world you had to at least time your shoulder bash so you would't take critical damage and you had to position yourself good so you would't miss because you can't turn around after a bash un-like rise. And if you are in danger after a shoulder tackle you where doomed, but in rise you just use your other silk-bind to just i-frame out of there while being a carried a large distance to safety WHILE getting a attack buff. Damn i love rise but it just doesn't feel that good to play sometimes because it's so un-threatening/un-rewarding to play.
    And just upping the difficulty isn't going to make this go away because it's baked into the foundation. Hell, my favourite monster is rathian! I don't even care that much about difficulty. She is so predictable and easy but just so much fun to play against in world because of the combat.

    • @vomer29
      @vomer29 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Silkbind moves are probably the biggest problem with Rise, they negate too many effects, they should be a high risk/high reward move instead giving you superarmor and negating roars.

    Definitely agree with you about the difficulty and lack of endgame but I'm pretty sure this is intentional by Capcom. Hear me out on this but based a few things, I do believe Capcom intended to have Rise come out and then have its audience migrate to Stories 2 when that launched.
    Yes I know these are 2 completely separate experiences but the timing and marketing of everything fits. Rise and Stories 2 have always been mentioned in the same breath at Capcom events dating back to their announcements. Also Rise getting a lack of content right as Stories 2 launched suggests Capcom doesn't want their MH games to compete against each other.
    I know players don't want to hear this but from a business perspective, this make a lot of sense and is a smart move to increase sales.

    In regards to difficulty i'd like to add in my experience. My friends and i have been playing MHW since release on PC, and then we continued with iceborne when it came out.
    MHW & IB was our main game for almost 2 years.
    We all uninstalled around Dec 2020 this was after months of fighting, learning and grinding Fatalis.
    The whole fight was perfect it required all of the knowledge we'd accumulated while playing MHW and IB to defeat it.
    It was a stress inducing 28-30 min fight that left us all wanting more after we finished it.
    The fight was so good that it made all of the other monster fights in MHW & IB boring in comparison.
    It was the perfect ending to our MHW & IB experience.

    i struggle to express how important it is (to me at least) for there to be some sort of tempered/EX/frenzied mechanic, _with special rewards_ , in a monster hunter game. it lets you go back and experience the fights of lower tiered monsters without just chain flinching them and not _letting_ them fight. i can tell you right now i would never have sunk the hours i currently have into world and iceborne if the game didn't let me fight a harder barroth, or a harder legiana. all of these cool monsters would have gone to waste because i would have hunted them for the story, and then moved on, never to truly experience their fights. the fact that they are harder, AND have unique rewards provides the reason for hunting them, outside of just for the hell of it.

    I've been playing this game 100% solo, I've finished literally every quest the game has so far and the only time I felt challenged was fighting "all mother" the first time and it only took me 1 attempt to learn everything about it before I started knocking her head off on the 2nd attempt and beyond. I've played every MH but World and never have I felt this unsatisfied before. I've almost dropped the game several times because nothing was challenging.
    I really hope G rank does something about this

    I watched this video long ago playing on Switch, and wanted to revisit it after playing again on PC. After beating Allmother in both platforms on two different weapons, I have to disagree with your statement, but I respect the opinion (minus the G2A part but you seem to have reflected on that).
    I like you also started on World. In fact: World Iceborne where you start with a Clutch Claw, and me and my Dual Blades started my journey. No Guardian Armor, no Defender Weapons, beating each first encounter with a monster solo, even taking on the optional Rathian in the Wildspire intro. I had some previous Soulsborne experience and maybe it helped me out, but regarding difficulty: I didn't fail a quest (not counting Extreme Behemoth and...the Mosswines...for obvious reasons) until Tigrex all the way into Iceborne, getting my rainbow armor shader along the way. The cart here and there to new experiences, Nergi, Vaal, Diablos, Lunastra, Leshen, Bazel sure, but I did not fail a quest until that trip into the Rotten Vale. Like you I was actively seeking that need of a difficulty, and Tigrex did it, and beyond that I was truly hooked.
    In Rise? I decided to take up the new Hunting Horn and give a more classic MH experience a try: a slow, methodical weapon with deliberate actions. My first failed quest? I got stun combo'd three times by a fucking Barroth. Mud Puppy kicked my shit in, and I realized that LR for Rise, while still easy, offered tricky things faster. Granted I to this day have never seen a failed Rampage, but plenty of fights in Rise gave me more trouble. Honestly, Magnamalo was a great early wall, and I think many were spoiled from that experience. I chose to SKIP the demo, and I think that added a lot of enjoyment to Rise. I wasn't familiar with the Wirebug system, the endemic life, etc.. And I didn't grind for 7+ hrs against super amped Magnamalo so when I encountered him organically I was completely new to his fight and enjoyed it, and he even made me fail twice. Granted like you, GenU beat me up earlier (Low Rank Steve beat me twice and Gore gave me a run for my money), but I think going back to a much more dated system of GenU is a big reason why compared to World and especially Rise which just flow better.
    I do agree that games like Soulsbornes and MH should not have a difficulty slider, but I truly do believe that the statement of "your first Monster Hunter is your hardest one" has a lot of ground, even if not fully accurate. MH immersion to the slow, clunkiness, and the heaps and heaps of item management is that experience, NOT the number of times you fail to a flagship. Going into Rise and later GenU, I had so much knowledge of how MH works I cut a lot of the harder parts out of the way by simply knowing what certain things do.
    I do agree overall that Rise's endgame is the easiest of the 3 entries I have played, but honestly looking back, I find the tempered elder dragons of base World easier than the Elders and Apexes of Rise (Minus Lunastra & Kirin with an inexperienced party). I'm waiting on Sunbreak to see what they supply, and based on the event quests they have introduced they know the demand people are wanting for difficulty.
    As for the viewership thing: Rise also was on one, now two platforms. World was on 3 with much more global recognition on PS and Xbox than the Switch.

    • @TheWestopark
      @TheWestopark 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My gripe is that they really should put more armor sets and variations of quests. Apexes having none is a sin in of itself but it would be nice to have more quest with different monster combinations. Also world spoiled us with seasonal event quests and event quests that reward us with gear. Most of rise event rewards are either titles, stickers or poses which while nice doesn't hit the same way as new cosmetic options.

    • @TheWestopark
      @TheWestopark 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd like them to implement a option to not show hit effect of allies. I'm playing it with the hit effect on low option and it's still distracting in rooms with 4 hunters and their 4 dogos or cats.

      I felt like nitpicking but HH in rise in not at all a more classic experience, the weapon is neither more methodical or deliberate, and the dual blades were actually added in the series prior to hunting horn (international MH1/MHG for dual blades and MHDos for HH) the hunting horn in rise has super armor on every move and auto plays buffs which makes it not punishing and very easy to use… I certainly wouldn’t call that classic from my experience with older MH games like freedom unite.
      If anyone out there wants a more classic MH experience Rise is simply not the game you’re looking for, no weapon will provide that

    I agree with everything in this video because for me even as a first time monster hunter player it’s still too easy. I started playing about 2 weeks ago now and I’ve just got to high rank quests and yet while they are more challenging for sure it still doesn’t feel satisfying. I love this game, I’ve spent about 30 hours on it already but I’ve gotten a bit bored of it since it’s been too easy most of the time. Im the kind of person who does not like an impossibility difficult challenge, in fact I hate dealing with super hard unfair fights, yet I really wish Rise had these high difficulty challenges. Again I know there has been some fixes and updates and I’m only now in high rank but it’s just been very boring to feel as though I’m getting through all the quests wayyy too fast. I know the endgame has added a lot more very difficult challenges but completely regular quests has become a chore sometimes because I get through it in 5 minutes tops and there is no satisfaction, it rather feels I beat a monster until it died instead of learning it’s moves, playing with optimal methods, and feeling as though I really hunted an ancient Monster. Like you said I wish they added more challenges throughout the early game because I feel desperate to get to the big challenges. I’m hoping Sunbreak will bring these new great challenges and bring a lot more cool monsters as well. I love this game a lot I just wish there was more moments of “Wow I finally beat that hard monster and I feel so proud!“ rather than moments of “well great onto the next quest”
    Edit: Magnamalo in the Demo was a perfectly difficult challenge which I wish made it into the full game in some way. I never beat it in the demo myself since I wasn’t very skilled in the game mechanics but gosh even though I never beat it the fun I had outweighed the fact I kept dying over and over because I felt like I was at least trying something that seemed impossible but I knew could be done eventually.

    Man, this is exactly how I felt like towards this game, I spent 100 hours and it just felts wrong. I stoped playing because there wasn't anything else to do. My caracter is pretty optimised, my hunter knowledge and skills are good enough for me to hunt most monsters just by myself. But geez, compared to the 400 hours put into world/icerborne it's just wrong. In world/icerborne I always feel like I have something to do, some monster I still can't figure out. I mean the first time I solo hunted alatreon was just so cool and awesome it became one of my favorite video game moment. And now what can I say about rise ? The first time I solo hunted big purple guy I even forgot to eat, I just ran around the map to gain my +40 hp boost and yeeted myself into the fight. It was a colorful and fun fight, but a forgettable one. The only difficulty spike is hidden in the apex monsters, and in most lobby I join, people don't even want to fight them. Why would they ? You don't gain any new armor set or new weapon by doing this hard quest where you fight 3 apex monsters in a row. And I'm not even talking about bowguns, these things just breaks multiplayer. I stopped joining randoms to avoid having to do a hunt where the monster is spending half of the hunt on the ground. Wich is a shame because helping players was a thing I really liked to do in world/iceborne.

      You are comparing mhw with its expansion already to rise. Compare base mhw to rise and you could understand that rise was better with frequent updates and monster counts. Most of the complains are from people who is mhw as their first series and doesn't know how mh series follow the same blueprint. Wait for the G-rank before you compare.

    • @fitzounette9367

      I'm comparing it to world and iceborne. I pretty much consider them as two different game. And base world still had uptades, and events too. Where you would get a special Halloween/winter/summer etc special armor. To my knowledge the only event armor you can get in rise right now are glasses and a jean right? I'll give rise a good point tho. Lots of monster and the weapons looks sick. They also made gunlance my favorite weapon. And it encouraged me to try valor gunlance in MHGU.
      Don't get me wrong, I don't know how to say it but rise is not a bad game, or a bad Monster Hunter game. It's just sad to see how quickly you run out of things to do. I'll be learning gunlance in MHGU while waiting for G rank to drop.

    I made one jank IG set with the focus on part breaker and extra drops. It's no where near meta but it was more than enough to solo Valatrax and the All Mother on the first try. And I only carted once between the two cause I got up to early against Valstrax. I'm not even playing IG properly I don't know what the most effective combo is.
