I had an S41 on outdrives, your comment about windage etc. is true, in a force 4 to 5 its a nightmare. The solution is an autopilot, game changer. I've upgraded now to a Broom 425.
I get your frustrations. I’m based at Cobbs Quay in Poole harbour so am lucky enough to be in one of the nicest boating spots. I have the two lifting bridges to negotiate which requires a bit of planning and restricts timings on leaving and returning to the berth a bit, but having the whole of the harbour at your disposal and the Solent, ioW and the coastline to Weymouth on the doorstep is just brilliant. I have a 29ft single engine stern drive boat so 25-28 kt still feels fast to me. So closer to where you were with your previous boat. Mine is called Sally Rose by the way 😊
From my trips down to the south coast I'll either end up somewhere near where you guys are maybe somewhere on the Hamble to avoid those bridges so I can come and go as I please, or maybe even more cornwall side down Dartmouth kinda way as Nick's videos always make it look amazing.
Firstly congrasts on 1K subs - that is awesome... ref the GoPro - my GP8 has done that twice now to two cards and I did manage to recover the files by copying the whole card then picking it apart later. Good to see the boat on the water - we have hardly been out at all this year and most of my upload material has been legacy stuff. Are you going to SIBS?
I'm planning a quite major electrical refit over winter for her and I'll be giving the engines etc a good going over then next year assuming I can find a berth somewhere around Southampton I'll be heading to the south coast I think as much as I love the people at the marina who are amazing as is the costs, the nackered lock, poor weather with dominant winds always being crap and the lack of places to just "pop to" does mean its getting more and more difficult to use the boat.
It’s much the same on the road with a car - the Mini felt planted, the Mercs and Jags less so (at least ‘back in the day’ before I reached my late seventies). I have a question for you if I may - what’s your preference after sterndrives on Sally Jane and shafts on Wild Rose? A little cheaper / easier on maintenance? Anyway, thank you for your ‘wickipedia’ guidance on jobs around the boat - I follow them as though I’m about to tackle them myself 😅. Take care.
Definitely would go stern drives again the cost / maintenance is nothing if you do it yourself and their benefits far out strip the costs anyway. Not a fan of the shafts and small stupid rudders especially for manoeuvres in small spaces. I bet ips is awesome but right now I'd definitely take stern drives without hesitation
The Sealine s41 and s43 are really bad for the wind and tide pushing them about. I have a princess which isn’t to bad even being a flybridge. We moved from the river Trent to the Solent and love it. We are on TH-cam and Facebook “cruising aboard impulsive”
I went on a friends S42 and coming from sports boats it felt slow although the gps still showed a good speed. I think the higher you get away from the water the slower it feels. Doing the same speed in a 15ft speed boat would feel very fast.
Yep SJ at 28 foot and 26 knots felt fast, this at 26 knots feels pootling maybe the bigger engines that do that speed at lower rpm make it feel slower too in SJ you really felt the engines up the rev range.

i am considering an AP but that doesn't help when berthing when its got the main problem getting into my berth is a fucking nightmare :)
Autopilot is the answer. I wouldn’t go anywhere without mine. Takes all the strain out of it.

I was supposed to be but unfortunately other things cropped up :(
Thanks for the video. Are you considering moving to a different marina? It's not quite the Amalfi Coast, is it.

Thank you, very definitive and I appreciate that.
As any yachty person will tell you, a lot of time is spent with the engine on.

Alot of people raved about how good the s43 was as a sea boat but certainly in the humber / north coast sea its pretty terrible
