A game does not win or lose by one fantasized shot. Sure, that 23:05 was a helluva save and win shot by Arun, but the end he lost. He is not at the level to play with the big boys yet. As the saying goes: Practices make perfect. Practice more, son.
I have rarely seen such a one-sided commentary of a match. In short, ZJ either did or did not make the points in the match. Hardly any credit given to Aruna for anything else than to note how unusual his style was. I should have watched the match without the sound, but then missed the crowds response...
Think to be fair there were zero expectations a European player wins against Zhang Jike in 2014 let alone someone from Africa. Even with all of the injuries he’s still a silver medalist in Rio two years later against the Goat. Quadri hadn’t broken out as a player to watch…so you know…that mentality of IT’S THE CHINESE VS A NOBODY was still in play. He’s improved a lot obviously and his follow through as well but even today it still hurts him because his recovery is not as nearly smooth as the top ten.
A couple of ways you could interpret this game: 1) You play your best game and destroy the opponent, 2) Play only hard enough to win, but take some risks that your opponent has an out-of-this-world game and make it uncomfortably close. 3) You're injured and play carefully until you have to put it all on the line for a late-stage finals game. 4) You don't care and have nothing to prove, come what may. And last but not least, 5) You're cocky and think you'll win anyway despite the warnings from your coach. I wonder what goes through these players minds honestly...
Both have awkward forehand,, instead of playing the topspin forward they always lift it up....but they both have very powerful forehand.... Especially aruna's fh topspin is deadly

@@romanseminogov9604 no, i think he retired officially in 2018 after a small comeback. If i remember correctly, he lost the final in the Japan Open against Harimoto Tomokazu very narrowly that year, and I haven't seen him on the professional stage since
It doesn't matter if the entire country of Germany was behind the African kid, Aruna, he'll still bite the dust playing against top players like Zhang, Jike. Just as the announcer stated he, Aruna rated at the bottom and suddenly his agent or coach place him to play with Zhang, Jike world #3. As in horse race, they would call Aruna a long shot something like 15 to 1 of odds. Meaning not a chance to win.
What a stupid unimportant comment. Aruna great player. At least second tier third tier level in the world. Did quite well here. Won against top tier player quite a few times. ZJK being one of the best of all times. Aruna didn’t bite the dust. He performed well is it doing so until this very day.
23:05 how many of you like this point?

Incredible effort by Aruna!
