  • Hey People - Here's my overview and unboxing of the SmallRig 450B light. Over the years SmallRig has been doing a phenomenal job (in my opinion, not sponsored) at bringing great budget lights to the game. As someone who hasn't had a need for larger lighting in the past, the 450B is my first step into the larger lighting game. After using it on a recent commercial shoot - I can say I'm so pumped to continue to use this light over and over in the years to come. What a beast!!

The beauty of the SmallRig 450 is that because of their COB design it puts out the same lumens as most 600W LED's (confirmed by people who actually did the measurements...)

That was one of my biggest selling points. Working with the Aperture 600 on set and working with this light on set was all the same (and, the fact it's almost $1k cheaper)

Have you tried to look into the Cameo Lighting F1 line? they are being sold with accessories for V mount batteries and a soft box, and they're nice and small for the power you get :)

I've never heard of Cameo Lighting! Sounds interesting though!

Any updates on if this can be powered via Vmount? I have a vmuout plate that came with thr 220b but too scared to try lol

I don’t think it’s possible. I also have the v mount plate that came with the 220b, that would be so simple! But it’s a 3pin to 4pin connection so it’s not the same cabling. Currently, I don’t think you can power it via V-Mount

You cannot power it via V-mount. It operates on a 48V system. You would need to convert a 3-pin 48V source with a 4-pin into the lamp.

Interesting! After a bit of research, it looks like Smallrig announced it would be able to be powered via V Mount with a dedicated battery plate, but it seems that battery plate hasn't been announced yet.
I'm perfectly okay with powering via the cable for now, but I'll be on the lookout for a V Mount option if it ever releases. Appreciate the comment!
