Even if the Kursk had had an escape pod like that shown on the Borei-class boats, the sad reality is that most--if not all--of the Kursk's crew would have still died on board. I'm not sure if those who survived the initial explosion (and gathered in the stern sections) could have made it to the pod.
Let me give a few addtional history. The Borei's, which are the product of Project "Zapad" a Soviet era submarine building program, were originallt slated to be armed with 12 R-39UTTH SLBMs. Now R-39UTTH is an improved version of the R-39 SLBM, the major difference between the two missiles is that the R-39UTTH SLBM has a greater throw weight which is 3.05 tons compared to the R-39 which is 2.55 tons, plus with newer, compact and light weight nuclear warheads which were adapted from the R-29 SLBM the R-39UTTH can carry 10 or more low yield nuclear warheads. Another difference is the accuracy, NPO Avtomatika developed the guidance system of the two missiles, the R-39 was reported to have a CEP of 500 meters, while the R-39UTTH was reported to have a CEP of 120 meters. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the Russians decided to move the development of the R-39UTTH was moved to Russia, the development of the first stage of missile was transfered from Yuzhmash (Ukraine) to NPO Iskra and NPO Altai, so was the second stage. The third stage was already being developed by NPO Iskra during Soviet times, the MIRV bus segment was already being developed by Kbkhm which is Russian. All three stages of the R-39UTTH were produced in the PZKHO plant in Perm in fact specialize production equipment from Pavlograd (Ukraine) were transfered to the PZKHO plant to produce the 1st stage of the missile. The first test of the R-39UTTH in Russia was on November 1993, but it was declared a failure, there was a total of 4 tests all were unsuccessful, Makeyev attributed the failure of the lack of funding in the localization of production of the 1st stage of the missile, plus the Ministry of Defence was complaining of the cost of the production of the engines. Makeyev still defended the R-39UTTH as the missile program was 70 percent complete and that they needed additional funding, the problem is that during the 90s the defense budget was so small that design bureaus were fighting over the small defense budget that available at that time. Now here comes Yuri Solomonov head of the Moscow Institute of Thermal Technologies, he advertised the Bulava SLBM, he lobbied the MOD to fund the Bulava SLBM, he told them that the Bulava will have commonality with the Topol-M in terms of components and spare parts, the Ministry of Defense bought as they see the commonality as being able to save on maintenance of the missile. Unfortunately, important testing stages were skipped so as to fast track and to save money on the Bulava SLBM, normaly when a new SLBM is tested it is from a land based launch platform, after that a fixed submerge platform and after that from a submarine, after the Bulava was tested from the land base platform it was immediately tested on the Dmitry Donskoi, they skipped the fixed submerge platform. According to rumors MITT did not account for the submarine to be constantly moving and exposed to the sea. Plus Votkinsk Zavod was not prepared for the production of Bulava, it was only in 2011 that Votkinsk was seriously funded and major modernizations of the production lines. The repeated failures of the Bulava made Makeyev using its own funds to continue development of the R-39UTTH and was given the designated Bulava-45, and Makeyev presented this to the MOD for consideration, but MOD did not adopt as this would mean the Borea submarines would have to be redesigned and rebuild which would make even more expensive, plus the MOD spent a large amount of money on the Bulava that they were already too committed on the Bulava. Fortunately, the Russian Ministry of Defense today decided to come to their senses. In 2016, the MOD awarded the Makeyev a R&D contract to develop the next generation SLBMs, if I am not wrong last year the MOD finalized the technical specifiactions of the next SLBM.
What is worth noted is that the first 3 of the class are the world's first "green" submarines, meaning their forward part was made from recycling the part from older Akula submarines. Probably a way to save money on the complicated torpedo room
Despite their age the Seawolf's could still probably run circles around the Borei's. Unfortunately, only 3 were ever made which sucks because even at their age they give the Virginia class a run for their money.

I have a suspicion this thing is going to turn out like a lot of Russian subs and equipment: It's pretty decent and quiet when it rolls off the assembly line, but then it will gradually become a noisy, hellish chum-bucket due to the ludicrous amounts of corruption and graft in the Russian navy. Even the best sub in the world will become nothing more than a billion dollar liability if it doesn't undergo routine maintenance, which the navy, and Russian armed forces at large, seem to be highly allergic to, which ultimately does nothing but make them easy targets for enemy nations.

The submarine fleet is kept in good condition, because it's the most important part of the navy.
@@КомандаЛеви That certainly makes sense, and for the sake of the submariners I bloody well hope so. If you're going to be stuck in a metal tube for months on end, you at least want it to be relatively safe, comfortable, and above all, functional. I don't understand why the Russian military kept that floating dumpster-fire known as the Admiral Kuznetzov around. They should have sold the damn thing to China or India like they did with their others and focused more on building even better and sexier submarines.

My first question would be. Does it work?
Yeah, probably.
A 'Ban the Bomb' movement is more seriously needed than ever, to prevent an end of the world scenario! Sending a handful of pilgrims to Mars to restart humanity's insane desire to self destruct elsewhere, is not the answer.
Nothing is possible everything is impossible
Here to remind you that if you skipped the ad part of the video rewatch it
0:48 you cant hide the Tsar from us
3:42 is where the ad ends
Is also to compliment their special ocean floor class of submarines stationed around Ukraine?
Alot of new submarine deployments there lately😂.
And judging by everything else Russia says, dial back by 80% to get the realistic data.
They always overstate data.
South Africa judging other countries 😂
@@TheJessfletcher17SA cant even deal with somali pirates, what are they gonna do against a nuclear submarine
We not talking about us military calm down
The Russian 700ft titanium k-329 Belgorod carries 6 tsar bomb type Poseidon torpedoes with a yield of 100mt each, the most powerful bomb ever built, it is capable of creating 1500ft tsunamis to flood Nato coastal nukes, it was put to sea 2022.
the submarine is just like a very long steel bar and i like it
Any subs that can dive is a good sub
BTW, what's the thing with revamping SLBM subs to launch cruise missiles instead, isn't that something of a downgrade?
New treaties limited the amount of slbm subs in service for usa and soviet union. So they had surplus subs left over and decided to repurpose them.
@@rogerk6180 Thanks
1:30 never! Soviet military was to defend the Soviet Union
I'd love to see new submarine videos from you, the ones you've made so far are excellent!
When you said coke , I thought of another one 😂😂
yes make a videos on Russian submarines
6:43 Soviet subs have had crew escape capsules in many of their boats going back to the 70's. Not that they helped much.
I mean it didnt go well on the kursk
But if your stuck on the bottom at 500 meters a dubious escape is better than none
@@cideltacommand7169 True!
in short, no its part of the Russian navy. If it was good it wouldn't have been made in Russia
How about a video on the Russian Poseidon missile
Do you see torpedoes?
Kamchatka sees torpedoes
great video !!!
"below the waves" yes
Aussies still love Coke mostly in bondi
All russian submarines are tracked the moment they leave the White Sea. They can't scratch their ass without being heard.
Whats with the Russian Arcturus Submarine or the Russian Belgorod Submarine ? Please make a Clip about them
