One of my favorite Sting songs 🎵. I too, have not heard it in many years, released in 1999. I enjoy Sting's music, as he enjoys exploring varied musical journies. If you see Sting LIVE, each concert is packed with the familiar tunes, but plenty of new ideas. I remember seeing him, right after this was released. 🔥 Love this song choice Uschi! 💕 it takes you on a journey for sure. The song is sung in Arabic and with Algerian singer Cheb Mami. In fact, I was torn between choosing one of the two songs, that one or "Shape Of My Heart". I chose this one because I love the vibrant melody, the clashing of different sounds and instruments and harmony of Sting and Cheb Mami's voices that it sounds like from a different world. As Jill mentioned, Cheb sings so wonderfully in Arabic. Sting has collaborated with other artists on a number of occasions and writes music that many can relate to or is deeply relevant to its time like "Russians". "Fields Of Gold" or "Englishman In New York" are others that I like, just to name a few. Thank you for this fantastic reaction HAP 🥰🙋🏻♀️.
Having grown up in the 80's with Sting & The Police, I was stunned at how beautiful this song was. Cheb Mami's voice blended so perfectly with Stings it was like listening to a piece of art work. And even though I have about 46 years of hearing his lyrics and prefect voice this remains my favorite of his massive catalogue.
Sting's voice is something special, so soothing... Agree with your thoughts on this, "Desert Rose" is a beautiful result of an absolutely perfect collaboration!
