I know people have said it before, but man, you're funny as hell. Or whoever is writing your scripts is funny and you're a master of timing. Either way, it's hilarious and entertaining. Sitting here watching a video about a glorified tally mark and laughing my ass off.
I LOVE those denominators. Excellent button-feel. I have a 4-button model of my own I use for counting knitting and videogame stuff, and my lab in school had a bunch the microscopists used to count cells.
We use these same devices but attached to a clip board to count the number of cars driving on a road for roadway design. Many hours have been spent standing to the side of a road clicking the buttons to count the number of cars and trucks
I've seen those boards- it seems like the lack of a minus would be a real pain. What do you do if you hit a button accidentally? Just try to remember not to count the next one?
@@ChrisStaecker Not having a minus isn't really a huge problem. You can either do as you said and just try and remember to not count the next one, but the counts don't need to be super accurate. +- 5 or even 10 vehicles in an hour doesn't really affect the outcome of the study, and we use some statistical methods and probability to modify the count anyways since we can never be sure the day we sampled was really a representative day of traffic.
I’ve had a chest cold all weekend long and, as such, managed to avoid a lot of April Fools’ Day nonsense. So when I was up at 3:30am last night scrolling TH-cam and this video came up, I glanced at the “3d ago” and assumed it was one of those. For the first half of the video, I kept waiting for the joke. Then I looked at the headers and saw the release date was actually March 31st and watched the rest with glee. After that I spent like another half hour going through your videos and, well, long story short… you’ve got another subscriber. Amazing content, my friend!
When you brought up their website and it said "You can count on us" I thought there was no way it could be real, but then I looked it up and it totally is! Delightful stock photo and all. I love that things like this are still being made
You're welcome Chris, glad you enjoyed the 1x2!! I was so exited to see the still frame I woke the wife up from a nap just to premier your video together
Working in software where it's very easy to get feature-itis, I wish my management could channel this energy. Adding one small feature is fine...and one small feature to that...and then you have a combinatorically exploding number of interactions between different features and things which can go wrong and suddenly nothing works at all.
I grew up in Woodbury, CT and always saw the sign for The Denominator Company and wondered what it was. I had no idea -- I thought it was a bookkeeping firm!
for that subtraction idea, if that's really needed, you can just use one counter to count up and one counter to count down, then by the end of whatever you were doing, you can just subtract one from the other and done, plus, in the end, it gives a little bit more information in that there is still the total added
And to do the subtraction, you just use another counter while hitting the smallest of the two counters until it display the same value as the greater of the two ^^
You don't need to use two counters for subtraction you can subtract on one... Just note down the totals on all the counters (remembering to adjust the number which needs to be reduced by one) eg 137, 254, 8352, 9251... Reset the device... Then re-enter the corrected numbers... It's as simple as that...
@@retrogiftsuk4812 My method works for every subtraction you want to do, without jotting down anything! It was a joke, but "counting up" is a subtraction method taught to pupils.
@@programaths or just use a piece of paper and subtract one from the other, especially if you're expecting there to be a loss. Another thing, your method would require a reset by the end of checking what the positive and negative are together.
@@retrogiftsuk4812 what do you mean, my guy? I am supposed to reset and then re-enter a number that's one-lower when I want to subtract one? When it comes to numbers in the hundreds and thousands, that would take far too long

The colored plastic caps are not the "true" button, which is a wide metal lever underneath. Under the broken plastic cap is a perfectly fine metal part, so pressing any piece of the broken part works no problem.
Wow that's pricey, especially considering you can get a new 4 digit hand tally counter from eBay for about £4 ($5)... Is the company really a front for money laundering (they'd be great at counting it)
I have a few math devices mounted to my desk (I just think their cooler then pc trackers despite working just as well) and i think im gonna buy one of these bad boys if i have the spare cash!
Did you say all those things to your mom while you were standing in front of the open refrigerator? Bet you got an earful and your middle name was used.

You could say they’ve Denominated the market for a century.
you can just imagine that they have a couple of these in their shipping department...

IK,R? Especially when the product was Just Fine in the first place. Get with the program, Mom.
The mom rant and Beatles reference were amazing. LOL! Thanks for the laugh. I needed that. :)

I've heard Denver's RTD called Reason to Drive. But maybe it's always been Reason to Denominate instead
Fantastic epilogue to this most auspicious presentation. Take that, mom!

Somewhere in this video there is a "your mom" joke I'm not smart enough to come up with.
"Though she was born a long long time ago." Classic.
Excellent, MOM!
Can I just say this right now? This is one of the best channels on you tube. And I'm not your mom!
When you said that the reseter has to fix itself I thought first of USB, then you mentioned it!
Another humoristic educational video highlight! If you watch it your mom will be quite okay with it, no worries!
Really enjoy your style :)
I LOVE YOU CHRIS!!!
I have a picture of a NYC worker using a board with 4 quad counters (one on each edge) to count cars at an intersection.
You’re hilarious! I love these videos!
I would love to use one of these to count strikes in boxing and mma
Geez MOM.
They are here to count dammit!

I'll bet that, with sufficient training and practice, you could learn to turn the crank properly to reset it every time.
I actually need one of these. I'd pay money for one, but not hundreds of dollars. Could someone 3d print something like this?
Any other counter is just non-denominational
Yeah, mom.
Speaking of clicks, here's some keystrokes!
Price isnt that bad for something built like that.
Yo Chris, lighten up on mom just a bit, huh?
Sigh. Off to eBay…
And that’s another twenty bucks I gotta explain to my wife.
