    I used to have a 1976 911S, sunroof delete, with a 1978 3.0. Power nothing, first year the whole body was galvanized, the last year before power brakes, last year of the lower final drive ratio on the 915 transmission. It had koni adjustables all the way around. I took out the AC. It probably weighed about 2300lbs. It would do 0-60 in about 6.5 seconds. The steering was so responsive it almost seemed like it was hard wired to my brain. It was a lot like a Carrera 3.0. Driving it on a twisty mountain road was like dancing. It was full of grace and beauty and excitment that would stop your heart. They make faster cars now, but none more visceral. I miss it.

    Great presentation, Mark. Brings back a ton of memories, early mornings working out in the canyons along the So-Cal coast. Topanga, Malibu, Decker, Mulholland Hwy. And the sound of that 3.2 liter.. I didn't play the in dash during the first 6 months I owned the car. Music to my ears is an understatement. lol

    My second Porsche, a silver Carrera 3 Targa 1977. (First was a ‘72 911E 2.4. ) Spent the next 30+ years regretting selling them …… did a memorable 500 mile trip round the north of Scotland and that was one of my best road trip ever..

    Thanks for the video! Very interesting, I own a 3.0 Carrera 1977 white, in 2005 we developed it as a rally car but I still have every original piece. I'm sure in the future I will bring it back to original and enjoy it in the weekend, maybe developing another one for just rallying!

    After all these years I still cannot understand why the Carrera3.0 is still relatively unknown. Even Hans Mezger said it was his all time favourite 911. He had one in his private collection. Perhaps it's because only a few thousand were made in total - only a couple more than the 73 Carrera RS and Carrera 2.7.

    Good story ! I as a German living in Australia.imported a 1977 Carrera 3 , how we call them here !
    Had to convert it to a RH drive which was easy and enjoyed the car very much.
    Because I moved forward and back at the time I sold it 1993 for AUD 30K which was cheap but the market was flat at the time !
    The body was fully galvanised, which stopped rusting very much .

    How is this different than an SC?

    • @markstarr3197
      @markstarr3197 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Night and day. It's lighter, faster, more responsive. The engine is a 930 engine without the turbo. One of the single best 911's on the planet. There is a reason Hans Mezger owned one as his personal cars for many years.

    • @roi126
      @roi126 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do a google search and read about the differences. A big difference given the incremental changes the 911 has had over its journey.

    • @jasonbanks9618
      @jasonbanks9618 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Biggest difference is the 930 engine uses the same 6 bolt crank as the 2.7, which make it much faster revving than an SC with the 9 bolt crank. Cams, CIS runners and maybe heads are different too, for better breathing.
