You can fridge the stock, skim any fat and use it for pea & ham soup..really good. There are peppercorns and an onion etc but, some ham hocks can be salty so I didn't over season..
ianbeefcake and robert hocker, do you realize the hock is from the "leg"? Also, this is one of the best parts of the pig if you know how to prepare it. Don't be swine, instead eat the swine.
@Robert Hocker. A ham hock comes from the leg not the ass. To cheaprecipes.com, I would eat this. I love old rustic recipes and this looks great. Thanks for sharing.
Takes me back to my childhood. Pork hocks, sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. Mmm mmm. That's good eatin'!
I love ham hock. When I was young, my Mum & Dad used to make a dish - "Pea Soup & Dumplings". Gorgeous. That's what I'm going to try and make today!

what about the broth assassin?
IT WOULD TASTE ABOUT THE SAME .
Well don’t forget to let it simmer for at least 4 hours.
That would be even cheaper. I absolutely love these, especially made with a Chinese style sauce.
