The main purpose of the floor switch is to let the controller "know" that there is somebody inside, so the lift wont't respond to calls from the outside while you are inside. They had no memory function back then so they'd just ignore calls while somebody was riding. Some had a timer though, so if you hung around in the lift too long, after say...3 minutes it would start reaponding to calls. The light switch feature is just a bonus.
Never turn the key around when trying to insert it since it can damage the tip of the key. Also, just a tip: if a lock is awkwardly placed, it's probably the one that works.
I actually found a video where someone actually has a similar call button as this and he actually took it apart and showed the guts of how these old schindler buttons work but ofcourse for privacy Im not gonna give his channel name
yeah I know!! :( :( SOOO close, but I tried everything. I wonder if the engineers force the door open - according to the customer it's services twice a year. If I get to go back I will of course ask and try again, the lock might be fixed by then
The lock is not broken. The elevator service company will have the keys. Contact them. Are you really that stupid? Common sense. You think you can just get keys to everything?
I wonder about the floor, as lifts have a timer to turn off the lights when lift isn't being used makes me wonder how old the lift really is as some old lifts once had a switch under the floor so car can be called if the internal gate had been left open. and also why is the stop button still connected despite internal doors now fitted
Ive actually heard on these swing door elevators/lifts many people dont like the innerdoors because they dont have windows I personally found it very unusual and interesting because its not something you would see often
nteresting! Except that the colleagues in this case with the addition of the automatic internal door have forgotten about an important thing which is also provided for by law! In the event that the lift stops between 2 floors, the internal door cannot be opened electrically as in this case by pressing the STOP button! To avoid accidents the door should only open in the door area! Door zone means (+ - 15 cm) from the exact level. To do this, all you need to do is install a 1 permanent magnet sensor or a reed sensor on the roof of the cabin and place the magnets or shielding plate on each floor so as to make the cabin door open only when the lift is in the door zone. Not to mention that they kept the movable floor, which in this case with the automatic internal door does not make sense. Hydraulic lifts are used for re-leveling with open doors under similar conditions, with the difference of installing 2 permanent magnet sensor or a reed sensor + (Safety relays or contactor) Featured in a video you made titled: 9 MINUTES OF HYDRAULIC LIFT MOTOR ROOM a hydraulic OTIS LV1-LV2-LVC relays. LVI-LV2-LVC in the event that the hidraulic lift re-level, and for whatever reason the lift kept going up with the doors open, as soon as the cabin leaves the door zone (+ - 15 cm) LV1-LV2-LVC relay they de-energize thus stopping the moving cabin. (In hydraulic OTIS controllers, You always hear LV1-LV2 relays that clack clack l, ascending each floor. The STOP button in the cabin has been prohibited since 2002 with the entry into force of the EN-81-1 law.
Why does it open the doors everywhere upon pressing STOP? Soviet lifts open them ONLY when the car is EXACTLY at a floor +/- 5..10 cm, otherwise it simply stops and remains closed.
Алексей Рукин I was surprised the inside doors open, but I know why - The interior door was an add-on. With the relay logic, it's all they could come up with without modifying the existing relay wiring. Perhaps if the engineers who added the internal doors had a little more time or knowledge, or some extra relays then they would have prevented the internal doors from opening. Or perhaps it's designed to do this.
+ELPaso1990TX I'd say you can reasonably expect 3-phase to be available almost anywhere in Europe except in some remote rural places (mainly in the UK and Ireland I think). No idea about American lifts though, considering 3-phase is a lot less common over there.
Looks like a really awesome lift. I really like the round windows, gives it a bit of a retro charm. Tell me something, have you ever been in a lift that does not have internal doors?
Nice lift! To bad that the key's didn't fit. The top key hole look like a cylinder for a very advanced type of key. I saw that the key has pits in it instead of insciscions, this makes the lock very hard to pick. What I find special but also a bit annoying about swiss lifts, is that the light goes out when it is not in use. In some countries (the netherlands) that is not allowed by the elevator regulations. The three languages on the fixtures where of course a dead give away that this lift is in Switzerland. I've been in Switzeland a few times on summer holidays in the past, I've seen several different parts of the country. The multilingual aspect makes it special.
The key at the bottom I think is the locked one. There was only one key that fitted the top hole, but didn't turn. I haven't had much luck on this visit, but I did get a hydraulic lift motor room - yeah I know it's just a controller with a tank of oil and a pump - not much to look at, but the controller was all relays - coming soon!
Great find , I like the C/W idea ,are they really rods or wire rope stretched taught ? ,ideal for low rise lifts as not a lot of twisting moments in the c/w. .
Matt Ill explain this lock to you the top one is a high security "dimple style" lock and takes a dimple key the bottom cylinder is a standard cylinder that takes a normal style key that lock couldn't have been broken otherwise it would have failed inspection
+sean juth Thanks. I must have had the wrong key then but there was a specific key marked "elevator room on the roof" (it was in dutch and had to translate it). It remains a mystery! !!
would love to, except I don't want to pay for a ticket lol. Sometimes it's fun arriving somewhere HOPING to find something to film - some you win, some you lose!
You forgot to TRY THE DOOR HANDLE! (You only tried to insert the keys)! I have ridden a lift that has that treadle feature as to activate the light. It is at a building in my birthplace, Bern, in Switzerland, at the a Bern hostel.. It is a small lift with window in doors and no interior door but flush shaft. Did not see motor room.
yeah I do see what you mean, but I'm going to alternate them from version 2 and version 3. You'd not believe the amount of time I've spent "tweaking" these intros! I liked the "echoy sireny noise" in the background on this intro which starts at 0:04. But I suppose I could put back the chimes, but that's easier said than done coz then I'd have to adjust the positioning of the piano bit at the end.
As a civilisation have humans got dumber over the last 50 years? - How did we cope with lifts with no inner door - a cynic might say it's not safety that's the issue, it's the laws surrounding litigation that have changed.
+Asriel Dreemurr I asked if I could have a look inside the motor room. As this is not in the uk, all this over the top health and safety stuff is a little more relaxed so they said yeah... sure. They gave me the key which didnt work... tried nearly every key in the cabinet :( :(

mrmattandmrchay The elevator looks very Swiss and it has the three Swiss languages written on the callfixture. The Italian led me south and the French led to west - to Genève. Well the positive side is that it wouldve delayed modernisations so people would have a chance before the engineers unjam the lock
In Bulgaria, some of the old lifts only have outer doors and they are the swingy outy type
The internal shutters makes it look more new
