I have to admit, for a couple of seconds I was thinking "Wait. How does Dan Aykroyd fit into this group?" Then it hit me, DUH! The Blues Brothers, of course! I guess John Belushi would have been there, too, if he'd still been alive.
Michael and Lionel wrote the song in less than 20 minutes. And this video, was recorded after an awards show. I remember it the first time, my reaction was the same as it is today. The 80s were the best. Maybe that's why so many of my movies are being remade, badly. Because, once you reach iconic status, it CAN'T be remade. When it comes to music look at it this way, you get to enjoy most of the music today AND all the decades of good music from the past. When you get the chance you should definitely check out a song called "Mother, Father" by Journey, their live performance from a 1981 concert in Houston. I've heard Journey do that song since, but IMO, there was never a better vocal performance on it than that one by Steve Perry.

I was a teenager when this song was made, so many fond memories of seeing all the artists in their prime, like they live in my memory and how i was too.
It's such a beautiful song and the artists voices come together so well. Hard for me to watch this without crying for some reason.

I was a teen when this was released, I can tell you my young friend, it was a different world, it wasn't Utopia every nation had it issues, but we cared about each other, didnt matter if you were American Canadian African, Afghani , none of it mattered, if you needed help we all united, yes there was a time when the USA and the world set its racial differences aside its beliefs all of the crap aside and united to help each other and any other nation when shit hit the fan... it wasn't perfect but we were trying our best to understand each other... I wish your generation could have had that experience ..
The world is pretty much the same during this was the height of the cold war, the Berlin Wall was still up, Apartheid was a thing...etc. I love music from the eighties but let not ignore what was and what is.

I agree with your assessment of this song, too; we need more positive messages like that again. There can never be too many. Some of the singers in here I would love to see you react to, since you mentioned Joel, are Steve Perry, Bruce Springsteen, Kenny Loggins and Daryl Hall. When you get the chance you should definitely check out a song called "Mother, Father" by Journey, their live performance from a 1981 concert in Houston. I've heard Journey do that song since, but IMO, there was never a better vocal performance on it than that one by Steve Perry.
