The Mazda6 Tourer takes on its rivals, which include the Ford Mondeo Estate, Honda Accord Tourer and Hyundai i40 Tourer with sharp looks and excellent running costs. It's lower, longer and wider than the previous model, uses less fuel and has the choice of 2.0-litre petrol or 2.2-litre turbodiesel engines. With three equipment levels, the SE, SE-L and Sport, it's well equipped with xenon headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels and a 5.8-inch touchscreen fitted across the range. There's also excellent safety technology, too, including an emergency auto-brake that automatically stops the car to avoid low-speed collisions, as well as radar cruise control that maintains a safe distance from the vehicle ahead on the motorway.

I'm just here to watch Mat grow over the years
This is an outstanding all round package. If you go and see one of these (saloon or estate) you really get the impression that Mazda put a great deal of effort into making a genuinely good car.
Is this just the most perfect family car out there... Sensible, stylish, comfortable, sporty!
Very good.
Dude , I saw a saloon once.. oh boy they look so good , it's like a luxurious limo
I requested a review for this a week ago in your comments, and I can't believe you guys went through with it! Thanks Mat! Carbuyer is officially my favorite car review channel.
best practical car reviewer on youtube hands down! to the business script, british accent, mic is not distorted, good work!
Summed it up very nicely. Loved how he's pitched it at sales people, now I want one.
1:54 I guess that handbag ended up falling down anyway...
Ah when Matt was a normal car guy and grounded
I sure wish that Mazda would bring this to the US, that is one sharp-looking wagon.
I actually like this one better than the 4-door sedan version.
Fully equipped Mazda 6 is cheaper then fully equipped Golf
branot89 Tyu was my day to start the year with the best of my best best friends right away from my house in the morning I have been in the last three.
Definitely a good looking car, and I don't think the interior looks dated. Definitely would consider buying this if you could get a 6 cylinder or more.
Good review, great car I'd be happy to have one of these in my drive way
I had the previous generation version of this car. Very impressive to drive. Road noise a bit invasive especially on Britain's cheaply surfaced roads.
If they would import these to the US, I'd probably buy one.
This is pretty sexy brooo
Why aren't there wagons in the USA?
абвгдђежзијклљмнњопрстћуфхцчџш cause Americans don’t buy them.
They also ban nissan skyline R34 long time ago..
Dear Mat,
The transparent parcel shelf is NOT meant for sneak peeking on your colleagues but it is there to offer rear visibility for the very unlikely case when you drive with the 5th door open ;-)
Yours sincerely,
The MX5 must be a great car ( 03:13 ) if he's decided to own one! I had one for a year and I can assure you that you will love every trip with it, especially when the top is down! I didn't want to give it away, I had to!
I agree that the navi screen is small but the interior in general is really nice. I stopped by the local Mazda- looks great.
Do you think the belts are covered by it? They aren't, they wear out in time (say 50-60k km for the timing belt and a bit less for the other two). The guarantee covers major faults (i.e. the clutch blows up in about 5000 km and they prove you have not tried to do burnouts to make it blow up; if the clutch wears out in say 100 000 km, you will buy the new one on your own).
Last time I looked Opel was number one in terms of quality among european car makers. Insignia and Astra are the best in their segments according to Dekra, one of Germany's most respected testing agencies.
Amen to that. Carbuyer is all about how much car manufacturers are willing to pay them for a good review. Don't trust everything they say.
great review as always, but it was a bit of a shame that he didn't mention the Mazda's new safety technologies
whoa, didn't expect to see mat watson here.
I'm so sad that the estate version won't come to the US. :(
Very beautiful car, even for an estate. Can't wait to see the saloon version
My God that looks fantastic! Shame we in North America refuse to acknowledge the superiority of the wagon.
Wish we had the Mazda6 Truckster here in the US. Hopefully someday.
1:47 I found it so entertaining listening to him say "like that" in his accent
0:14 just pause there, and have a good look at it. Never, a station, ever looks as beautiful as this. And if you could remember *Volvo P1800* (yes, like the one Sir Roger Moore had driven), just look at that noselines
And of course the U.S. doesn't have this on sale.
Why can't we have nice things!
Unfortunately the SUV madness seems to have almost killed the wagon market in the US. But there's been a 6 wagon in the past, maybe in the future, too?
punishment for electingTrump
Better than Obama.
sad to say but true
Hanc At least the PH has.... Lol
It's sad this wont be sold in the US. I feel barely fortunate that we are getting a diesel option.
Thanks to all the losers in North America who just have to sit high and look supposedly cool in an SUV, wagons like this are not available. Oh, I can get a CX-5 for the same price? I don't want a damn CX-5!
Maestro_T I love wagons too, but I had an XC60 and I have to admit the seating position gave a lot better visability and for those who don't drive high speeds much they probably have a point going with the crossover. It also could hop curbs and handle rutted roads, unlike any sedan or wagon. A Blindspot system is a must-have in the Volvo sedan I now have.
Bruno TaTa They do seem to have more headroom (especially compared to sedans with sunroofs, my worst nightmare), but the handling is always worse and I can't get past that. I also feel that car companies are seriously ripping people off with them. As an example, a Honda CRV costs the same as an Accord, but it's built off a Civic platform, meaning it's really something of a Civic wagon. So why charge a premium except for greed? The same applies to other manufacturers.
+Maestro_T Losers? Hey, a lot of us Americans want wagons but the American car makers think we're all part of the herd that wants ugly SUV's and CUV's, so people like me have to make do with hatchbacks. I had a 2006 Dodge Magnum wagon, but got rid of it because I had to keep replacing front (Mercedes) suspension parts. Sure I could get a wagon if I want to spend 35+k on a Volvo or BMW or a VW Golf Sportwagen. I was interested in the VW, but crossed it off my list because of lousy option choices. You're forced to go with "leatherette" seats as no cloth seats available in any trim level (I hate leather seats) and if you go any trim above the bare bones base you automatically get the panoramic sunroof (which I wouldn't want). So it isn't that Americans don't WANT a wagon, it's that the big 3 won't sell them here anymore. The Cadillac CTS was the last American wagon. >:( If Mazda was to bring the Mazda 6 wagon to the U.S., I would be trading in my Ford Focus hatchback tomorrow. HEAR THAT MAZDA?
Jim Seeber I'm in Canada, so I'm pointing the blame at my own country too. The truth is, wagons haven't sold particularly well in North America for a long time. That is the main reason they have been culled almost entirely. Even back when more wagons were available, significantly more people chose the sedan versions of those cars. (Coupes are also quite rare now in anything other than a sporty car or a compact.) It's disappointing that they don't at least attempt to sell SOME wagons. Like, why did the Europeans up until very recently sell sedan, coupe, and wagon versions of many of their cars, even though they sold so few cars compared to the big 3 and the Japanese? (They too have dropped a lot of their wagons.) The real answer, of course, is that there are a lot more profits to be made with SUV's. A compact SUV like the CX-5 really has no more room inside than a Mazda 3 hatchback but they get to sell it at the price of a Mazda 6. The same thing applies to every other carmaker. I'm not sure which really ignited the SUV craze, the early '90's Ford Explorer or Schwarzenegger getting his stupid Hummer, but that's when the big decline in wagon sales began. By the way, you can buy Subaru wagons. Theirs and VW's are the only non-premium wagons available. Mind you, even with them, I think they have shifted to Outback and Outback-like versions rather than the actual wagons. :(
Eerert
You know there are a lot Dodge Magnum owners out there that would like a replacement. Since this car exists and like the sedan for North America it is built in Japan, meets European Union standards, there really is no reason why Mazda could not import it with minimal effort. Heck, the Diesel coming to North America.
Great review, shall we have one for the 2017 modei?
I wish!
...no V6 petrol? Or turbo petrol? Mazdaspeed version?
The word for the interior is "understated", and that's quite fine with me.
my friends dad is going to get this with a 6-spd manual. he currently has a 04 5-spd manual that's blue and had a lot of dents and hard seats. still it gets us all to school so t at last doe good carpool. actually they should have a carpool test with the max amount of kids in the cars!
please review the new mazda 3
I have a diesel 2.2 and im not that happy with the car. It looks great , engien do pull great and its ok in long haul comfort. But man l havead alot of technical faults.
It eats break discs. I have change every year cause of shaking. First the fuses popped like popcorn then the cam disintegrated together with the turbo and break vaccum pump(and yes the breakes dissapered in rushtraffic). Then the wheel barering shatterd afther 50000km. Then the turbo blow up again. The navi/radi system went dead and the gear switch sensor broke so we did not get the ignition off and the brake calipers was change. Those are the big things.
My car has been on every service since new so most of this is covered by Mazda, but l just cant tust the car anymore.
And yeah, the cruise control was change, it got stuck in 80km/h.
I guess my next car is not a mazda
Thank you for losing your time and helping us to get an idea
that's your fault for getting a diesel mazda. or any japanese diesel. from them you only buy the petrol and you're fine. if you really want a diesel, AND do a lot of km per year, buy something else, 1.6 or 2l vw, 2.2 mercedes...
Please, Mazda! Bring it to the US!!!
the best looking car after the f30 BMW 3 series in its class
Agree with you, man! Most germans are low at recent statistics apart from Mercedes, which is one of Top 5 of engine's reliability :)
Liking Mazda's new design direction of late, the only Japanese marque that has a bit of style. Interior is not as flamboyant as the exterior but it's still not bad.
Why no 3 Mazda Tourer to rival the Golf ?
+MRsjovealek lol lmao
+MRsjovealek Lol!
I might have to stop watching these videos if they dont stop favouring diesels, its starting to wind me up! otherwise great review
How would a manual transmission prevent having cruise control?
Recently the review is more focused on the car in UK market. We don't have such a thing like this in other countries
Welcome back matt
Carbuyer In my experience with the 2014 Mazda6 it's more of a cruiser. Here you say the suspension is more on the sloppy, pickup-like side. It handles good on the motorway but on the country roads it handles worse than a Skoda Octavia II. But, even though it has a soft suspension it is still a great, spacious car and it's defenetely a big bang for a buck. Especially here in Poland it's a lot cheaper than the similarly equipped Passat or 508SW.
dont let rebacca take over this channel Mat !!!
Those tiny break discs at the end are funny.
Amazing review Mat, nice car!
That may have something to do with the fact that they own Audi. I remember years back they downgraded the quality of the Passat's interior because people were choosing the VW instead of the Audi A4.
That;'s fine by me. Parking sucks in my city, so shorter AND more utility is a win-win in my book.
We want this car in US. Loud and Clear.
With its SKYACTIVE engine, it should be considered for CAR OF THE YEARRR!!!!!!!!
Thanks for syncing the audio and video
Yeah, Matt! Diesels are always "where it's at" 🤦🏼♂️
Make that over 3in when it comes to the wheelbase, enough to make both cars look different.
Could we get a date for the new Seat Leon's review?
Let's agree to disagree on the "incredibly cheap to run part", shall we? When (not if) it breaks down (not essentially a full stop break down, could be something annoying, like screeching betls, whether the alternator, the climatrocnic or even the timing ones) you will get a very nice bill (if the car is out of guarantee or the local Mazda dealer decides it's not covered by it). It's just the opposite of cheap to run. Sorry for the not so bright & shining point of view.
We need good wagons in US! We have none here!
+Xuan Yu We have a few choices. VW Golf SportWagen, Suabaru Outback, Audi A4 allroad..
+Walter Moore but that's it man. We need subaru levorg and this baby too
And in Canada.
man, we need this wagon with the diesel engine here in the states
setting aside that is audi/bmw / mercedes teritory , it is a combi car that i would actually buy... and i usually hate a lot the design on station wagons
My parents didn't... but then again we're the kind of family that only has one car for the whole lot and if we can use it for 10 years, we will, because cars are too expensive for us. We've been a family for 25+ years and only had three cars, the first one being my dad's already used car. I kid you not.
Yeahhh,Matt is back again.
Didnt know Mat drives a MX5.
Surprised there's no moon roof. (And I looked at Mazda UK and it's definitely not available.) You can get it on the sedan/saloon - at least in the US. I'd love to see Mazda bring the car to the states - with the moon roof. Maybe by next year they'll step up that dash, too.
That isn't really important..It's more about the way the car drives, which is beautifully.
Mazda UK have 2.2 diesels which are pretty quick & do 76 mpg.
MegaVector2011 However it's pretty standard among higher trim direct competition and the upmarket wagons. As this car is - to me - possessed of a beautiful exterior, it would be nice to carry it through.
Tom Crisp It is a bit odd Tom. The Mk 1 has one, I had one with an electric moonroof. I think the philosophy of this version is all about the weight saving and doing away with some things that add weight to the car. Perhaps it should be a bit more of a balance. Great car though, I've had the 2.2 150 hp for about 6 weeks now and have no complaints at all.
Most comprehensive review of Mazda 6.
www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/motors/reviews/mazda6-take-two-1-5440249
MegaVector2011 From a UK perspective might I add, Mazda must introduce the diesels to the US.
MegaVector2011
Yes, here the 6 can be had with just one engine: 2.5L SKYACTIV-G 4-cylinder gasoline. The CX5 has two options, both gas, and the CX( one option for all 3 trims, gas also. You see how many diesels they expect they could sell here. BTW, even with the new 6 and CX5, Mazda's first quarter here was disappointing. Both cars were a hit with critics and did well, but the rest of the line not so much. They began heavier advertising of the 3 (also well reviewed) , so perhaps that one has picked up.
This car actually looks quite good
Your statement varies on whom you outsource to, but certainly, brands like Toyota set new standards in terms of reliability. That doesn't really constitute reason to lash at VW like that.
does the US get the station wagon as well?
Anyone know how many 12v sockets are in this car and is there one in the boot?
Volkswagen is a quality standard in Europe. Comparing a car to a Volkswagen ensures most viewers have an idea of the quality of the product.
? have you even seen the new subaru interiors? they're nice
First- I think the interior looks great- not dated
Second- He trashed the CX5 yet the Mazda 6 is virtually identical
I would've liked to see the sedan version..
There's a difference between quality and reliability.
It's the best looking Japanese, Chinese or Korean sedan/estate in.. maybe ever?
Nice shark nose. I liked that on the Mitsubishi and BMW's of old.
That guy is bias towards VW, thats the way his brain is.
love the LFA tho that thing has the highest reving V10 engine on a production car. amazing car.
please make a review of the Volvo S80 (btw it has been redesigned this year)
Make a video about the Mastretta MXT
Also, I'm not sure 2 inches counts as "quite" shorter.
they have a very good big and sport rim,but so dissapointed it is not turbo charged engine=.=
Beautiful Mazda..
best color for this model !
OMG Why doesn't America get wagons they look so good now a days! ughhh people open ur eyes
CarBuyer great job on the videos. Banana out
I often wonder what constitutes "quality" in people's books. Soft touch dash? By comparison VW products are of lower quality than the Asian brands like Mazda. Their electrics, sensors and even major mechanical parts go wrong far too quickly. With Asian cars, you usually get a solid 10 years of fault free service and by that time, repair and maintenance costs are dirt cheap compared to euro brands
What is the colour code for this car?
surprised to see Matt hier. Nice!
I'm sure that white interieur is perfect for a family with two little children.
Beautiful, beautiful looking car.
How does a video of this sexy car turn into a comment war about VW
Amazingly beautiful looking car.
Voluptus car.
Please Mazda, PLEASE bring the wagon to the States...
What a looker! I want one
much better and reliable car than vw group cars
They aren't available in the UK.
