YG training takes a long time before a group or soloist can debut. 4 years actually is kind of short considering how long it took BLACKPINK to debut. And in those 4 years each month they have these evaluations that have three stages: a solo song, a group dance, and group song. So each month they choose a solo song to sing, then they get broken into groups where they work on a dance routing and decided a group song they want to sing. This happens every month until it is decided when they are ready and can finalize the line-up of the members. BLACKPINK already went through their final evaluation and was thought to be a 5 member group until Miyeon left BLACKPINK for some reason. It is not known if she was cut for dating rumors or if she decided to leave on her own but one thing is for sure was that she had passed the final evaluation and was supposed to debut with the group. It kind of worked out for her since she joined (G)I-dle. But again, YG has a long training period which makes a lot of the trainees drop out on their own since they go through these evaluations every month. The purpose of this type of training is not only to give their artist feedback but to also prepare them for becoming an idol. There are some things that can't be measured by the performance alone but also the pressure that involves to become a great performer and to give the trainees a safe environment to be able to accept criticism when they are not performing at their best. All the people in the room are either other artists, producers, dancers, or executives which gives a bunch of different perspectives on their performance and each will grade them 0 - 100 combined based on different criteria. At least that is how I take how YG does their scoring for rank.
For Ruka, Asa, Haram, and Rora they have been training for over 4 years at this point. Ahyeon around 4 years and Pharita 2 and Chiquita for 1 year. When THE LAST EVALUATION was released it was already almost a year since is happened. Episode 5 - 8 was recorded in May 2022 and the videos were released April 2023. And so even though they were done with the evaluations and decided the final line-up, they kept training to make sure that they would be ready to be able to perform live at some point. They have proven it with their performances on music shows and then their fan meetings and finally the award shows. So now they are getting an album done so that their World Tour can start in 2025.

Honestly these girls need the criticism not just to get better at their craft, but also to be ready to be idols with thick skin. Kpop "fans" are no joke, they can simultaneously be the most fanatic supporters and also the worst scum of the earth type haters depending on who they like and dislike. I'm still convinced that the health reasons that caused Ahyeon to not debut with the rest of the girls were mental/emotional breakdown because of all the hate and straight up bullying she was receiving pre-debut. You just have to see her demeanor during this show and compare it to the behind looks we get of the girls right after Ahyeon rejoined and how traumatized she appears.
