This was extremely helpful. I've just been doing it the way someone else taught me for a while and knew there was a cleaner way of doing it, so thanks for laying this out. How would you classify the ad groups?
Thanks Dalton, glad you found value from it! The ad group classification will depend greatly on your campaign structure/strategy. For example, if it's a conquest campaign each ad group would be classified as each competitor we're targeting. If it's a standard local services campaign each ad group would be classified as the different variations of keywords people search to find our service. If I am implementing single keyword ad groups then each ad group would be classified by the individual keyword in each group. As a general rule of thumb, as long as your ad groups are named in a way that makes sense where you can find what you're looking for while maintaining high relevance you should be alright.
