      @@sweetwater This is not a review video, it`s a "How to Use" video with an advertising trend.
      You even didn't check how the units sound physically without using any sound bank. It matters for bunch of the users who don`t want to make noise in rehearsal times at home.

      Good luck with your order. I ordered a 17-KVX kit almost a month ago. First I was told 1-2 weeks, then 3-4 weeks, now it's December. Disappointed in the way things were handled by Sweetwater. Then I get e-mails that say the kit is in BUT when I followed up, not for me. Oh no, they are going to previously placed orders. But it was nice to inform me that kits came in..ughh..

    So glad Roland came up with this kit. I like the import capability. Now you don't need to spend the $ on theTD50 for that. If you have a VST you can sample your favorite sounds and load them into the module. And the module is the same price as the TD11.

    You should have showcased a few more of the acoustic drum kits, expecially the snares. There are other reviews out there that show that for the first time, the acoustic drum sounds in a Roland module actually sound decent, and most importantly they seem to have managed to solve the machine gun effect. Could be the more affordable alternative to the Pearl Mimic Pro.

    • @HugoStiglitz88
      @HugoStiglitz88 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why does this low mid-tier priced kit sound LEAGUES better than its higher end counterparts? Like no cap, the TD-50 AND the TD-27 don’t sound nearly as good, especially the hi-hats on the TD-27. This kit is BEAST.

    Hi! Great review! I would like to ask you something that happens to me and I do not see anybody speaking about it. I have the TD17 module on a VAD 306. When I import my own sounds, for example a ride cymbal, if I hit it twice then the second hit mutes the first, creating a really weird and unnatural sensation. Typical situation when hitting the ride alternating one hard and one soft hit in a groove. The soft hit does not overlap and mix with the first, but it kind of replaces it creating a drastic decay between the hard it and the soft one.
    I hope my explanation was clear enough so that you could give me an opinion of how to solve this. I was able to improve the performance by crating another sublayer but it’s not ideal.
    Obviously, this behavior does not occur with the preset the TD17 comes with.
    Thank you!

    Thanks to help me using my kit. I didn't have time to explore yet. I would say everything's right and this kit is awesome except for 2 things : no, set-up of hi-hat is not easy at all and not accurate. And still about the hi hat there is a huge problem of the pad spinning when you play and you can't do anything about that because you can't block the rod.

  • @thisguyiknow

    Ridiculously excellent & comprehensive demo! In the video around 23:23, am I understanding that the Aux input makes this kit expandable by one drum pad? Could it be a cymbal pad instead? Also, can you recommend some good (plastic head) beaters for this set? I'm thinking heavily of selling my acoustic set and getting this Roland kit, mostly because it won't scare my cat like my acoustic one does; MUCH cheaper than sound-proofing a room. Plus, they're easier to transport and if I ever want to record I don't have to worry about mics, mixing, etc.

  • @mihai1falcoe

    Why no one talk about limits of this drum module like playing together 2 triggers of the same pad/cymbal (head - rim) when I do the rimshot properly (rim-mesh) only the mesh sound will come out, if I want to hear the rim I have to hit ONLY the rim. I made several tests with 2 sticks hitting together rim and mesh and they will never sound together. This problem becomes more obvious when you split the aux cable to ad an extra pad, since you can't play them at the same time. Anyone noticed that?

  • @dadduorp
    @dadduorp 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I have an older TD-4 kit and was wondering if this is worth upgrading to? I'm a keyboardist that uses V-drums strictly for recording or laying down basic drum tracks, and (if the beat is too complicated) have my drummer friends come by later to put down a better groove.

    Just got these yesterday, very happy with this purchase. The sounds are incredible and the sensitivity is on point. This replaced my last kit Roland TD1MK, which I had for about 5 mo, before the cymbals gave out on me. The sound difference and feel blows me away. I have a some of questions tho, if anyone can assist that would be awesome. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to properly mount the brain, since the mounting piece is contrary to the mounting piece on the module, meaning it goes the wrong way in order to have it facing u correctly. Also the cymbal piece that are supposed to mount under the cymbal does not fit properly as there are cymbal mounts that are already there that cannot be moved. Also, because this is so much better than the TDMK, Im having problems hearing the music from my IPhone, because the volume is too low to hear and play along with on my headphones. My phone volume is turned all the way up, so its not that. Do I need a better set of headphones? Is there anyway to tweak this, besides turning the volume down on the module to match the level of music? Thanks for any help.

    Hi Nick, Great review! Quick question for you...I just purchased this kit yesterday and I noticed on yours there are two cords connecting the ride cymbal - is this unique to KVX? I purchased the KV version and my kit includes only the two CY-8's and I'm guessing that's the difference? Thanks for any insight you can share!

    • @H2MOVIEMAKERS
      @H2MOVIEMAKERS 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Mark,
      There are multiple versions of the Roland TD-17's to fit in the budget for every drummer. Since you bought the "TD-17KV" the only difference is that you do not have the extra cymbal and you have an electric hi-hat stand Which will save you from having to buy a hi-hat stand. In the video, Nick is using the "TD-17 KVX". The KVX requires a hi-hat stand and kick pedal. You can add an extra cymbal in the future. Just contact a Sweetwater Sales Engineer to assist you. Hope this helped!

    Great guide! I have a question... You mentioned connecting to your DAW.. I was wondering if the kit had multi track recording? I can't see individual drum outputs... So don't think it's possible unless it's done in a different way?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Elia! The TD-17 module has two capabilities over the USB cable. First, it can send a stereo audio stream so you can record a premixed version of what you are hearing. Heads up, this is not multitrack audio, but a stereo mix. Secondly, it will send a MIDI signal over the USB cable so you can use the kit to trigger your virtual instrument of choice.

      Hi, Ernie! There are a lot of different places to get samples from. There are tons to be found online, both free and paid. You can create your own if you have a recording device, but currently Roland does not sell samples. As for your samples, you just need to make sure they are in ".wav" format for them to be able to be played back by the sound module. Thanks for the interest!

    How's the VH-10 hi-hat? I have the CY-5/FD-8 on mine and I've tried a used VH-11, but I didn't think it worked too well. Maybe because it's old.

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, D! The VH-10 is a great hi-hat, and in my experience tracks very accurately. When the cymbal is not working well, it is often because it was not calibrated properly in the sound module. It is a simple process that only takes a few seconds, and when it is done right it makes a world of difference.

    Rather odd question, but would you be able to mount any of the Roland cymbals to traditional acoustic kit hardware? As in proper boom stands.

      Hey, Carlos. Thanks so much for your interest. Yes. Absolutely. The Roland cymbals have the exact same size holes traditional cymbals have.
      I hope this helps.

    What hi-hat stand do you recommend for this kit other than the Roland one? I have DW pedals. So would I be able to just use a DW 3000 hi hat stand for this? (I’m not a drummer so I have no clue)

      Hi, Asmus. You can use any standard hi-hat stand with that kit, so your DW will work just fine. Thanks for the interest!

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Hi, Cole! The kit does not include either a hi-hat stand or bass drum pedal. So, you will have to provide your own. I would suggest checking out the new Roland RDH120 hi-hat stand and the RDH100 bass drum pedal with the kit. They do a great job of absorbing extra impact noise, making the kit even quieter to play on. Thanks for your interest!

    I'm torn between this and the Alesis Command. I'm moving into an apartment so I want something quieter. I know the Command is cheaper but so is the price. I don't mind spending the extra money if it's worth it. So my question is, do you think the KVX is worth the extra money?

      Go with the Roland.. I have the strike pro, and it looks great, fun to play on at times but it has tons of hiccups. I played the lower version of this kit at Sam Ash and was blown away at its responsiveness. Sounds were hard to tell because of the cheap monitor it was ran through but I think ran through a good Roland amp it’ll sound good. My biggest issue with Alesis is the cymbal response..they just kind of do their own thing.. also if you play along with music the snare is often triggered. The hi hat on the alesis is a nightmare and next to useless.

      I know the TD-17 line all use the exact same brain. You could buy the TD-17KV-L and upgrade it to the KVX simply be replacing the trigger components.

    can you have two different audio imputs at the same time, one via Bluetooth and the other one with cable?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Elsanty! You would be able to use both the auxiliary input and a Bluetooth device at the same time. However, there is only a single volume control that is shared. So, if you were to use both, I would suggest controlling the Bluetooth signal's volume on the device itself and then adjust the master volume that is shared for the other.

    If you're thinking of buying the TD-17 KV or KVX, one note of caution and something that never gets talked about in official or unofficial promo videos reviews is the fact the tom and snare holders do not stay in position, especially if you're a hard-hitting drummer or you're playing heavy song. It doesn't matter how you tighten them and there are three points where you can, if you play a Chilli Pepper or Rage Against The Machine type of hard-hitting song, you'll have to readjust at the end. If you're lucky maybe two hard-hitting tracks. Don't get me wrong, the kit sounds great and feels great but Roland has really dropped the ball here. I suspect the reason why review sites don't mention this, is because they're getting free kit. Well, I'm here to tell to beware of this design failure. I'm not sure what can be done for the tom holders/clamps/wing nut as they're are made entirely plastic and can only be tightened up so much, which is not the case for a steel clamp mechanism. You can, however, use or buy an acoustic snare drum stand, which I highly recommend.

      So which part is causing the toms to move? The arm that's attached to the tom itself or the bar and clamp connected to the drum frame?
      I'm wondering if maybe wrapping some Teflon tape around the metal bars where it clamps.
      As far as the snare moving. I have not seen a video yet where the snare is not flopping around in some manner.
      Including Justin from 65drums.
      Do you have yours mounted on a snare stand? Don't the 3 uprights come up past the top of the snare?
      Thanks.

      @@ohioplayer Can't see a reason not to. E-Drums aren't just practice tools anymore, they have most of the features of "real drums" at this point. Even if you still think that E-Drums are just a practice tool though, you shouldn't have to change your playing style by hitting lighter/softer.
