To remove the fairing there are 6 bolts. 2 in the dash, 2 that go into the radiator shrouds and 2 tucked underneath that you can get to if you put you hand down by the front suspension. Then it just pulls forward, needs a bit of manoeuvring though. Hope this helps.
If the speedo stops working it either has to be in the hub, in the speedo or the cable that joins the two together. In my case the speedo cable came loose and fell out while riding in rough conditions so it was easy to identify. Its also the cheapest part to replace. You could check both ends are connected properly and if they appear to be, remove the old cable and inspect for damage. Slide internal cable out and make sure there is a slot in one side, a square and not rounded the other, and the entire wire is complete. It should also move freely when inside the outer cable as dirt and grim can build up preventing this turnung properly. If that all looks good then check the wheel connector and ensure when you turn the wheel it is driving the cable, then if all that appears right it is likely the speedo itself. Hopefully this helps your diagnosis.
