Very interesting Theory, especially the part about sacrifice.
I totally agree with the part about Sacrifice, but in my opinion, he sacrificed not to gain power, but to lose power on purpose.
This has always been my theory.
Mihawk stated that Zoro is shameful for asking Mihawk to train him. Zoro is very prideful, especially when it comes to swordmanship. He didn't want a scar on his back when losing to mihawk.
However, Zoro was willing to sacrifice his pride in order to help his captain, so he asked Mihawk to train him.
But, he did NOT sacrifice his swordmanship. He knew it was shameful, especially learning from the person he wants to defeat.
So after learning from Mihawk, Zoro purposely choose to lose one of his eye to level the playing field. So he will not be in debt to the person he wants to defeat and surpass.
All this, to regain his pride as a swordsman to one day become the greatest swordman of all time.
OR....
he opens his eye and there's a big burst of haki from mihawk. LOOL
I used to think there was a hidden ability with Zoro's eye until he fought Kaido and King with no mention of it.
My theory is he got lost in the woods turned around and a stick poked him in the eye
I believe in the Occham’s Razor principle here: the simplest solution, which is he got hurt while training and had to have it sewn shut to recover. However, being in the land of Overt Norse Mythology nods, we can speculate in Odin territory about Zoro’s missing eye. Kozuki Oden already has his GIGA CHAD legend; I’m thinking going to Mimir and Odin giving up an eye on his endless quest for knowledge.

Rayleigh has the same eye scar. I think it's to train his weaker eye to be stronger and someday he'll have both eyes again for a big observation haki upgrade. Maybe to fight an invisible swordsman?
You said he would have opened his eye against kign if it was an upgrade but I think it is an upgrade that he hasn't unlocked yet. I think he is still training and that training involves him nerfing himself so he can grow stronger until he reaches the point where he is ready to unlock the upgrade. And that upgrade will likely be observation haki on the level of Shanks and Mihawk. Rayleigh has a more broad understanding of haki but I think that Mihawk has really strong observation so his tactic of teaching it is very different from Rayleighs. Instead of learning the basics and then hoping for a bloom mid fight. Mihawk made Zoro cut or seal shut one of his eyes so that everytime he fought he would have to put much more focus on his surroundings and perception. This would gradually train his observation haki until he reaches a point of awakening where he would get advanced observation haki on the level of Mihawk or Shanks. If this is the case Zoro wouldn't be able to just bust it out vs King even if he wanted to.

I had the impression Zoro had Mihawk-ed one eye but due to the “short” 2 year time skip it’d require him to keep it closed to level the normal eye up and I think it’s only been a few months since then
Oda likes to use different lores: Luffy has a scar on his left eye because Sun Goddess Amaterasu was created from left eye of Izanagi, and Moon God Tsukuyomi was created from right eye. Thats why people related to Sun God Luffy also has scars or tattoo on left not only Luffy: Garp, Shanks, Dragon, Zoro, Ryuma, Shanks's Jolly Roger, Sabo etc. Meanwhile Blackbeard had a small bandage on his right eye after fighting Roger pirates, Augur and Burgess have right eyes covered with a goggles or cybernetic, and in early concepts from Oda, Blackbeard wears an eye patch from his right eye. When you look how Imu cut their posters, Imu cut Luffy's left eye and Blackbeard's right eye as well.
For the record, I suspect the rematch with Mihawk is actually not going to happen. My hypothesis is that Zoro will see Mihawk killed by Nosjuro, and that Zoro's fight to be the world's greatest swordsman will actually be against Nosjuro.
It's actually just called character development
I think eventually we may see Zoro learn how to cut through sea prisim. Maybe learning how to like cut things on a molecular level just through very precise and deliberate sword techniques. What if his eye was scarified in order for him to “See the body of all things” or something like that similar to the breath or voice of all things.
I’m thinking lokis eyes are bandaged because the legendary fruit has something to do with the “all seeing eye”
It’s a bit funny that one of few times I heard the, imo, correct pronunciation Oden rather than Odin, is in a One Piece video where the correct pronunciation makes it very confusing since we have a unrelated character named Oden.

I just think it would be really boring if we found out that this big mystery we have all been theorizing about it just some power up that Zoro has had this whole time but we just didn't notice. That's why I think it should be an awakening or strong upgrade because if it's something he already has it would be really underwhelming.

Zoro is probably training observation haki. I think he's just doing what Fujitora did with both his eyes. I think you can put most of the Strawhats into logical or emotional thinkers and this relates to the observation haki they use. Sanji is an emotional thinker and is very attuned to sensing emotions. Usopp as a logical thinkerand could immediatly figure out how to hit Sugar. So i think that Zoro struggled with the emotional part of observation haki which is why he keeps his eye closed.
I'm 5 minutes in and I think I might know where you're going. We'll see if I'm right. But if scars have significance to fate or power. Zoro having an eye put out could symbolize his inevitable defeat of HawkEYE. Back to the video for me.
Honestly, I've always thought anyone who thought anything more than zoro losing an eye or keeping it closed to make it a real challenge is just sad. Lol eye powers, wrong anime/manga.
I think Zoro posseses the legendary Tertiary Occulus, yes, the same that the former Demon King Abura lost and that Gomah the actual Demon King is searching. This or the Sharingan.
