      Maybe it's because I love old Lincolns and my Grandfather (Dad's side) had a '75 LeSabre Coupe, but I definitely prefer these to the Cadillacs of the era (not that I am putting those down). As far as GMs, I love many old Buicks most. I need to find a '75 LeSabre Convertible in Indigo with a white roof, and a white and blue interior.

      @owlnswan4016 These cars are on par with Cadillac! First and foremost.. they're on the same platform and made by GM! Go back and look at all GM cars starting in the 20s to the 80s! I'd say Cadillac, Oldsmobile / Buick, Chevrolet, then Pontiac, as far as opulencein a car!

      Honestly, you look at this and you look at a contemporary Cadillac and other than prestige I can't see passing over the Park Avenue for the Cadillac. Use can use the savings for gas.

      Maybe it's because I am into old Lincolns first, and my Grandfather (Dad's side) had a '75 LeSabre Custom Coupe, but I agree with you vs the Cadillac. Generally, as far as my taste in GMs, I like the old Buicks the most, and even some Oldsmobiles, and I am not hating on the Cadillacs because many of them are obviously very nice, but I wouldn't even blink of which I'd want between this car vs any Cadillac of the era. Fabulous car.

      Beautiful land yacht. I drove one, still had pretty good power even with the post-'72 detuning, and real good torque. Whisper quiet and so, so smooth. I bet it would be a great long-distance ride (other than the mpg's). As for a '76 Caddy, a would also be happy with a Fleetwood Brougham with the 500cid. Can't go wrong with either. I like them both.

    Got to know my local Buick dealer back in 1976 and he showed the dealership order guide book. I was stunned to learn that many of the options that I thought were a Cadillac exclusive were available on the Electra. Automatic Climate Control, Guide-matic Headlamp Control, Cadillac's Twilight Sentinel, Automatic Level Control; and a whole lot more. I was most impressed by the equipment available if you were planning to tow a trailer with your Buick. Thank you for your awesome car video tours C K. 👍

      @@stangslayerws6 I definitely agree with you about the steering wheel it was pretty ugly alright. I don't know what G.M. was thinking. You have some beautiful cars but this Park Avenue is to die for. Definitely it's Museum quality. I've been driving Buicks all my life, I had almost 50 of them since I got my license in 1975 . The 75-76 Electras are in top of my list . My 76 Park Avenue was the most dependable car I had. It had 378.000 original miles with engine never been apart with regular maintenance. I still have the engine . Unfortunately the car was rear ended and I had to retire it after I owned the car for 29 years. You got some beautiful cars and I can tell you proud of them.

    Oh my heavens. Seeing this BEAUTIFUL, DROP DEAD, GORGEOUS lady just made my day! Buick was certainly at (in my opinion) their pinnacle when they produced these vehicles. At least they looked cool. I know horsepower by this time as well as mpg, was pitiful, but they were built as boulevard cruisers. My Dad drove 1976 Grand Maquis to pull 25 foot Terry travel trailer. Most thought the 460 4 barrel with low speed rear end, transmission cooler, triple core radiators were best pulling motors in hot August in the mountains. However the Chrysler New Yorker, Newport, Monaco, 440. The Cadillac Fleetwood and Electra and all car companies suffered from the new federal standards regarding emissions and fuel economy compared to the same car models of 1969. Many owners just pulled the stuff off for more power. This is when super cab and crew cab trucks started taking over as tow vehicles as most families in 1976 had 3 to 5 kids.

    I agree with comment below that Buick had to do something to counter the Regency interior as the Limited didn't have quite the panache - especially when pillow top became de rigueur - but in my opinion the PA was just that much more 'special' than the Olds, and the Electra always looked better than the 98 in this generation - certainly from 73 on. A DeVille d'Elegance would have given it a run inside, but cost much more.

    The hardtop styling is really sharp.
    Could you get automatic climate control on the Electra?
    It still blows my mind that a few years earlier you could get an Electra with dual airbags, and I think traction control!
    Mercedes had a similar setup with their power antenna through 1990. The switch was a rocker, that would latch on up / down if pressed firmly. In the neutral position the antenna would extend most of the way, and you could touch it to up / down to tune for better reception. You could also click the switch into up, which would fully extend the antenna, or down which would retract it (if you were listening to a tape or going through a car wash). That was elliminated for the 91 model year, along with the 2nd pump in the automatic trans that enabled push starting.

      Yes Automatic climate control was a option. My white 76 Electra has that option

    Aside from the horn pad emblem, that's the same three-spoke steering wheel (with fake wood inlay) used in 1971-73 Cadillacs and some higher-end 1974-76 Olds 98s.

    • @stangslayerws6
      @stangslayerws6  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's because you need to cut them in approx 5 different places and fiberglass them back together to make them fit properly. None of the aftermarket ones fit right. They all have to be modified
