By the time of their passing her parents were mostly back to being the people they were.
Glad you're back in your groove, James. Shortly after the Labour victory it didn't feel like you were with topics you were really engaged with... Truly excellent programne.
Yes James , I have a son who fits exactly into that category. I have had over five years of trying to rationalise with him , but now I just permanently remain silent when he starts his outlandish rant thereby hoping he will realise that my silence does not give consent to his opinions. I have come to the conclusion that " some people see things with their ears and hear things with their eyes " If they could be labelled as some kind of electrical gadget I would say they have been wired up incorrectly. Perhaps that might be akin to accepting that Franz Mesmer was on the right track. What if we come to the conclusion that our use of too many electrical currents are driving some people mad.
@tonylemon. We are certainly getting far too much information -all of the time. More than we can mentally process as we used to. It may not be the ‘currents’ that are driving us mad, but it could be the content and the incessant clamour.
The lady whose daughter blames everyone else for her failures should consider seeking professional help for her daughter. I know someone one like that. They are happy only when they have made everyone miserable. My person did not have social media to poison her mind.
I failed to understand why someone like Nigel Farage whom his family were refugees and yet he is fighting so hard to get rid of the immigrants and refugees,
One of the most memorable things someone told me was " Instead of asking yourself if what you're doing is right, ask yourself if it's " helpful". That stuck with me.
I recall some twenty years ago falling down the rabbit hole of 9/11 conspiracy theories. It was almost hypnotic or like and illness. I came out of it when my partner confronted me. I was becoming angry, and convinced I was right. Since then, I have engaged with learning as much as I can about critical reasoning and questioning how we end up believing in unsubstantiated claims. My mental health in the early 2000's was not great, and I realise to what extent that impacted upon my ability to question what I was being fed through the internet. James O'Brien is one of those political commentators who employs critical reasoning incisively and his deconstruction of questionable arguments is always worth listening to.
I think a take I heard from a channel named Professor Dave has it pretty close - the world has changed so fast as a result of exponentially improving technology, that our human minds are simply not equipped to deal with the ways it’s changed in just a few lifetimes. Anyone who sees a problem in their life has about a thousand different things to point at that all share the common trait of being different now than the perceiver remembers them being years ago.
By chastising a certain side he calls silly generalised names. He offers no intuative solution but only division. GB news and the like are guilty too and you fall for it.
Radicalisation seems to be driven by two negative emotions? - Fear and Hate ? You cant reason with emotions James. If so, how do we best address that Fear...even if its unreasonable....and then help drain the Hate?
You can't reason with emotions, but if your fear is based on something, you can show that it's not true. There are channels here on TH-cam known for "deradicalisation". It is possible.
The first half of this show is one of the best things James O'Brien has ever done, but the second half is a classic falling back into the old ways with a completely zero understanding of what's going on with technology. I mean zero. The old ideas are not going to cut it in the next 20 years.. old skills are not going to be required in the same way they were and as such they will not be paying as much.. That's all over..
As someone who saw the birth of the internet and grow up with it I think it's ridiculous this woman got jail time. Some of the stuff I've seen online would blow your minds and most resulted in just accounts bans. Suspended from Facebook and a Fine and warning would have been more than enough
Surely they werent radicalized, just like we have been insisting that Jihadis are a culture this is also a culture that has excistedn for ever and is rooted in their religious upbringing, right? They were after all 8/10 literally and prouldy answering this was to make the UK christian again
People are unhappy about a lot of things, and it only takes a gentle nudge, and a submission to their innate tribalism, to start obsessing over another "group" of people. Unfortunately they've been scared into not wanting to challenge their misplaced beliefs, and therefore never learn how much they have in common with those they hate.
This is all really fringe stuff though. Like yeah it exists if you live your life online and on twitter etc but actually most people don't. And in a sense by getting bogged down in this stuff, you actually amplify it.
The idea that maths is right or wrong does not come from mathematicians. It's so much more complicated than that.. science is built on the constant changing relationship between knowledge and ideas.. Maths is wrong all the time. It's constantly being corrected and if you're a serious mathematician you would know that.. Don't get lost in the arrogance trap. It's completely unscientific
One of the repetitive themes seems to be that these tendencies manifest themselves in "edgy" jokes at first and develop into something far worse at a later date. Something that these "cancel culture" adverse comedians should take note of.
For me, much of Maths wasn't related to anything, the numbers weren't describing anything, the problem where a goat eating the grass with a 2 meter rope? brilliant, i understood that farmer wanted to know that info, and physics which is applied maths ( where i was in a high set for) used to describe the world and things absolutely clicks; but pure maths? Absolutely Pointless its just numbers zero context.
TH-cam occasionally tries to offer me views opposite to mine but I never "bite ". When I was on TWITTER. I ALWAYS checked "news" veracity. I too credit my critical thinking. I consider myself UNradicalizable : verify EVERYTHING!
No... we must question everything. Then apply logic, reason and critical thinking before we reach our own views/opinions. Unfortunately, far to many rely on the views/opinions of others to inform themselves, or worse still... they rely on their own *feelings* to dictate their views/opinions.
I've been trying for weeks to not have a gbnews suggestion on my TH-cam, report all contents that has come up and disliking it yet still everyday I'm pushed content from that ShipRag podcast, it's not even an algorithm, it's pushed.
But I’ve listened to James on LBC and he told me the NHS was on its knees and that schools were crumbling and that the police were not fit for purpose and that the government wasn’t looking out for the common man…. 2:07:57 math may be a unique discipline in that it truly tests what you’ve learned in a way others just don’t. From my recollection, loads of what we’ve learned as children and young adolescents has to do with the memorization of facts for a test or what have you. It’s easier to memorize facts for a prescribed period of time than it is to truly learn concepts, fundamental or otherwise.
@Prince William. We learn facts first. They are the basics - like scales in music. Then we have the tools we need for creative thinking. True, we forget quite a lot. But we can usually remember enough of the things that we need. Look at the wonderful things that we have achieved in the past. Civilisation for one thing.
If an adult is saying things "just to uoset you" that makes it worse, not better.
Why would you purposely try to hurt you on purpose
British media is far right already for the past 35 years, how do you think people believe in brexit.
I failed to understand why someone like Nigel Farage whom his family were refugees and yet he is fighting so hard to get rid of the immigrants and refugees,
People would rather be right than be happy.
I was close to going to incel/red pill route. So glad I got out of that before the likes of tate cape along.
I enjoy being alive
I go carnival
I go pride
I listen to lbc
I think a take I heard from a channel named Professor Dave has it pretty close - the world has changed so fast as a result of exponentially improving technology, that our human minds are simply not equipped to deal with the ways it’s changed in just a few lifetimes. Anyone who sees a problem in their life has about a thousand different things to point at that all share the common trait of being different now than the perceiver remembers them being years ago.
Thank you JOB & Matt! 💜
Great show, thanks to everyone. 🌸
Well it stared at about 9 o’clock on lbc. Already Nick is fueling the steady drip of hate
Hate for hatred is justified, stop crying
Is this any different? Come on man think.
James has a book called 'How they broke Britain' while actively breaking it himself and cashing in on it in the process. Come on man. Think!
@@ibexdnb2879how has James broken Britain?
By chastising a certain side he calls silly generalised names. He offers no intuative solution but only division. GB news and the like are guilty too and you fall for it.
How come those statements made online (social media) don't get taken down for going against "community standards"?
Because Elon Musk owns twitter and allows viewpoints he agrees with.
Also they attract big audiences / followers that attract views, clicks and therfore advertisers that pay admoney.
How does it go?
“You can fool some of the people, all of the time…”
@adeqhite, You don’t need to fool all of the people - at any time. You just have to fool enough for long enough to get what you want. And that’s easy.
They don’t turn into they were always that way inclined.
I hope this conversation spreads and discussions are further encouraged. Seems like belief is the death of intelligence.
1:28:34 what's this man's podcast please. Love him. It's the kinda thing I'm really interested to listen to.
All of the people hate watching James OB and commenting keep it up.
This entire segment was so amazing James!
Caller at 24 minute is brilliant.
Is she talking about the left or liberals?
Tommy Robinson, Douglas Murray, Paul thorp, Danny Tomo, radicalised these people
Stalin has done the same to you
No they’re not they just tell the truth!
@@jimcourt9164 Your hero Putin idolises Stalin, how do you rationalise this in your head?
40,000 on the mi5 watchlist.
@@jimcourt9164does he post content online?
Big respect to the Scottish guy ,,,straight to the point ,,and the protest never happened,,
Surely they werent radicalized, just like we have been insisting that Jihadis are a culture this is also a culture that has excistedn for ever and is rooted in their religious upbringing, right?
They were after all 8/10 literally and prouldy answering this was to make the UK christian again
Ww need James O'Brien in these tumes. Thank you
People are unhappy about a lot of things, and it only takes a gentle nudge, and a submission to their innate tribalism, to start obsessing over another "group" of people. Unfortunately they've been scared into not wanting to challenge their misplaced beliefs, and therefore never learn how much they have in common with those they hate.
So glad to hear O'Brian talking about this. I half expected him to tow the labour party line
And what party line is that?
Jailed fior speech, i dont agree
The story with the biker broke my heart 😢. Get that man a biker community!
What a lady. You can do it 👏
This is all really fringe stuff though.
It's completely unscientific
james I love your programme, thank you.
Stephen Yaxley-Lemmon. Brilliant
One of the repetitive themes seems to be that these tendencies manifest themselves in "edgy" jokes at first and develop into something far worse at a later date. Something that these "cancel culture" adverse comedians should take note of.
What on Earth are you saying? 😂
You are blaming comedians?
We all know why this is happening so stop pretending..
An amazing call from Lisa
So we must not question anything and should always think like James. Understood.
No... we must question everything. Then apply logic, reason and critical thinking before we reach our own views/opinions. Unfortunately, far to many rely on the views/opinions of others to inform themselves, or worse still... they rely on their own *feelings* to dictate their views/opinions.
You sure didn't listen.
@@lindakelley2676 I was addressing the specific point raised by the OP. No idea what you're referring too.
Narcissistical behaviour 🤣
I've been trying for weeks to not have a gbnews suggestion on my TH-cam, report all contents that has come up and disliking it yet still everyday I'm pushed content from that ShipRag podcast, it's not even an algorithm, it's pushed.
I’ve noticed that too.
But I’ve listened to James on LBC and he told me the NHS was on its knees and that schools were crumbling and that the police were not fit for purpose and that the government wasn’t looking out for the common man…. Will he not take some responsibility in this as he also did some of the winding up on his own show?
Excellent discussion James 😂😂
53:20 that is literally insane. Does he seriously think that wouldn’t of happened if Labour didn’t win?
I believe in one race. The human race. The governments over the last decade or more have allowed this to happen. People seem to be fed up with the cost of living crisis, brexit , BLM, covid, Isreal etc a cluster of events over the years that have lead people down the rabbit
1h44m54s in ... the Sunak clip.
I chuffing hate fact that I agree with him but ... I do!
Boycott this show!
I always find it funny how people say they don’t like mainstream media because they tell us lies but they’ll believe Bob on Facebook who failed all his GCSEs
We’ve been having those problems for years here in the U.S.
This was therapeutic. 😢
A lot of thinking went into that - because it doesn’t come naturally.
My favourite show 🙏
