Mixing MACintosh graphics & FM Towns music/sounds would be The PERFECT POP2!
The thing about FM Towns is they removed the quarter tone notes from the music, those notes are essential for authentic Persian music (which this game, unlike other PoP games, actually had) it made up by improving the quality, but if you ask, the Macintosh has actual Persian traditional instruments/music but the quality is so poor.
Mac version looks incredibly low quality trash.
The DOS-version can sound much better compared to this video since it also supports Roland MT-32 and General MIDI devices.
@@armorgeddon I'm personally too accustom to Soundblaster, to want to switch to MIDI. Especially when MIDI more often than not sounds a bit too off for my liking. But that's just me.
Man are the controls and gameplay a nightmare for the SNES version. I had the PC version back in the day. Didn’t know it was on the obscure FM Towns and even a really good port. Too bad it never got ported to PC-Engine CD or Sega CD.
I feel like someone should do a homebrew port for the PC Engine CD and Sega CD, featuring the English dub from the computer versions and the gameplay style from the FM Towns and PC98.

No wonder i love PoP on SNES, but found the second game terrible. It always felt it was faster than it was meant to be, and very poorly made. (and after playing the first game on SNES, that's one of the best versions IMO, it felt even worse).
Very good to know it was not me, but the port itself that sucked. and the scrooling is annoying, specially on later levels, something i didn't even cared about in the NES version of the first game.
Pop on snes is way better than it on genesis.
@@filevans Genesis one doesn't have music while the SNES has many OST compared to Genesis and it has much tighter control overall. For me it's the best version of PoP1
Genesis is lazy. Snes is awesome.
@@filevans why you hated it. It's faster and much tighter. It's Japan made and there's other ports which more faithful like PC98 and Turbografx which stays true to the original while adding the new Final Boss. So there's no reason to play that one. But for me and most people I'll go with SNES PoP 1 it's a enhanced experience with much faster and tighter gameplay and great music that undeniable.
@@filevans there's also the Sega CD port which has animated custscene and that one was based upon the PC98 version which Mechner himself praise.

I really like the visuals of the first game on the Mac version but it has some slowdown and just doesn’t have the smooth gameplay.
The second game was done right.

SNES version is just impossible due accelerated gameplay. You must have god's reaction time.
Wish it had an ps1 port of the game or Saturn atleast also didn't know that pop2 was popular in Japan
I had no idea there were this many versions of Prince of Persia 2! Let alone the fact that the two Japanese ones are a lot more faithful to the original than the crappy SNES version!
I'm not surprised the SNES port is an absolute shambles. Anything would be when you've got the disasterpiece that is Titus Interactive involved.
SNES had awesome graphic but it was one massive glitch.

Yeah, yeah, I could confirm that. I have lots and lots of versions of Pac-Man, Official, Unofficial, Homebrew, Unreleased, and clones.

Maybe developers wanted to achieve the blast processing of the Sega Genesis
I don't understand what happened with snes version, seems they uncapped fps and makes It almost unplayable
There is an unreleased Genesis version that was so similar to the original in terms of gameplay, it's a shame that this version didn't came out
@@retrosutra you can always use the hack on prototype Genesis rom www.romhacking.net/hacks/4805/. If Prince of Persia 2 run on SNES emulator (look like frame skipping enabled) and not native hardware propably it's a compatibility issue

It feels really unplayable due to this, and the fact that is the only version that features scroll like in the NES version of the first Prince of Persia

There is no Prince of Persia 2 - Shadow and the Beast.
For SNES fans of the first I’d highly recommend sticking with the PC version. (Mac if you have the option) This game ran like it had an ungoverned CPU on SNES for some reason which made it pretty unplayable IMO.

Mac version all the way. Too bad SNES version was mishandled by Titus. It feels just unfinished as Mega Drive version. And MD version in it's unfinished state is much better than SNES version.

Mac version using cheap renderers, it's hurting eyes, DOS is great as it is, pixel art, and FM town is superior cause it's DOS with very good music

El mejor para mí es MS DOS, pero hay que reconocer que la mejor versión es FM tienes. Coge lo de MSDos y lo mejora en todo. Mac a pesar de tener bonitos gráficos la jugabilidad es tan buena hay un retraso en la espada y en saltos. Y el pero el pero de todo son lugar a dudas es SNes que porquería de juego.

IMO Macintosh version wins because of its high resolution graphics, and SNES leaves mixed feelings graphically speaking and I feel It so unplayable due to its high velocity compared to other versions.

@@jasonlee7816 It's missing final stage and the music is very bad compared to it's SNES predecessor and the enemy keep recklessly push the player and leading the player to a cheap deaths. It's just a piss poor port
