  • Treating Bottle Jaw Sheep And Goats. In this video, Tim talks to us about bottle jaw and what causes bottle jaw in sheep and goats. Bottle jaw is not a disease of sheep and goats but a symptom of a parasite load in most cases. In the event you find an animal with bottle jaw, more than likely it has a severe end-stage worm load and a high probability of mortality. Check out this video to learn more!

      Bottle jaw is a symptom of an excessive worm load in most cases. You will need to worm your sheep or goats. The point of the video was to explain what bottle jaw is. We have some videos on worming that should help you out. I have attached a video for you to watch here. Hopefully this gives you the information you need.

      Hello, Juan! Thanks for watching our channel and thanks for taking the time to leave us a message. While we don’t doubt your friend’s story, he was probably dealing with an abscess and not bottle jaw from a parasite load. CL is well known for causing abscesses in the jaw region. There is also a rare occurrence called a salivary mucocele where the salvia gland gets plugged and excess fluid builds up under the jaw. This will usually cause swelling in the mouth as well and the animal will go off feed. If lanced, a large amount of clear and bloody fluid would come out. In the case of bottle jaw in sheep and goats, you wouldn’t experience a large amount of fluid with a needle puncture more than likely. When in doubt, check the animal’s eyelids for palor/lack of color and other signs such as weakness and diarrhea.

    What do you treat it with,I thought that was the whole point,I have learned that prevention is very vital but I am reading your article on ways to cure,what wirmers to use

    • @LinessaFarms
      @LinessaFarms  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The correct wormer to use would be based on what the parasite is. We prefer the use of injectable Dectomax for most parasites. If you are dealing with tape worms, we would advise using Valbazen oral drench.

  • @samuelgriffith86
    @samuelgriffith86 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I wormed a goat with your copper sulfate wormer 2 weeks ago, because of famacha score, and gave her a good amount of feed, mineral, and red cell a few times. Yesterday she had bottle jaw. Her ears seemed to be rubbed raw from scratching and I’ve noticed several others in my herd with the same issue. I think I may be dealing with lice? I can’t seem to find any on the adults, but have in the kids. And I was wondering if you have seen lice or mites cause bottle jaw in goats.

    • @samuelgriffith86
      @samuelgriffith86 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve already dewormed with cydectin and used Cylence to treat the lice.

    • @LinessaFarms
      @LinessaFarms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. We have seen lice, mange, and mites kill goats before. They can most certainly cause bottle jaw due to anemia. While copper sulfate works great for intestinal worms, it does not work for anything else (including tape worms). When we get issues with lice, mange, or mites, we like to use Dectomax and Cylence. We apply 10ml of Cylence along the back from the back of the neck between the ears all the way back to the tail making sure the fluid leaves a thin strip and touches the skin. As you know, anemia can take a long time to get better (weeks). When we see lice on anyone, we treat everyone. P.S. we use 5ml of Cylence on the kids.

    Can you mix vitmins and dewarmer to treat bottlw jaw?

    • @LinessaFarms
      @LinessaFarms  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can give vitamin B injections at the same time you administer wormers in order to help the animal. I would not physically mix any medications together.

    • @LinessaFarms
      @LinessaFarms  ปีที่แล้ว

      Bottle jaw is a symptom of some other underlying illness or problem. Most of the time this is due to parasite infestation. The best prevention is to keep your animals adequately wormed. Vaccines are usually preventatives for specific bacteria and viruses. Since this is not caused by either, there is no vaccine.
