Orf is called sore mouth, it doesn't just pop up now and again. Do you quarantine new rams. Could you have visitors carrying on clothes or picking up on your shoes at the auction? Some years it's more prevalent. Also sheep love weeds and their very nutritious. Save them for quad moms. Congratulations on your squints. Mine were Booroola Merinos, I got lots of quads, but wasn't brave enough for 5, if I had known about Standlee Alfalfa bales from Tractor Supply I might have, the 37%range blocks were great but they weren't a big seller so I could not always get them. I learned to stock up so I'd have them. I haven't heard you talk about wormer, maybe with bunks you don't have many worms, but it's still good to get them tested. 1 thing I learned about dewormer, when the feed store gets it shipped in semis and the trucker stops for dinner, the trailer heats up and runs it. Separate your sheep with orf, it's highly contagious. There's a vaccine, I tried it, it didn't work. I got rid of it by quarantine. Wear gloves or scrub your hands with the navel dip.
Thanks for being so human. So many people try to show the audience what they want to see, and the audience gets what they want not what they need. People who point out your flaws are having a hard time confronting their own. Your realness brings me back video after video. I loved seeing where you grew up, and I also love the new garden! Thank you for sharing your family and life with us. I'm praying everyday that happy times shine through even through the tough stuff.
Just realized, as I'm going through these older vlogs, that when I'm watching you working with Jess, I'm just grinning so big, that sometimes my cheeks hurt. I love your interactions with her. What a great set of kids you've raised!!
I’m about to graduate high school and start my way into a veterinary college! I watch you constantly and you encourage me to push towards my goals even when life seems hard! Love your video’s ♥️🌱♥️
Decide what you want in life and go for it. Let no-one and nothing deter you. If you do you will only have regrets. The hard things are, the more you will appreciate them.I am disabled and just before I got really bad I climbed a vertical hill. It is about 10 feet short of being a mountain. It almost best me but I did it and I still feel good that I did. You will feel that way when you conquer the things you describe as hard. I wish you well with your life . Stay healthy and good luck from here in uk.
I feel that. I'm currently enrolled in animal science since it's the easiest way to get the classes for vet school and it's not terribly difficult but watching things like this that are educationally entertaining (edutaining) definitely help make me more motivated
I grew up in Upper Michigan, and my Canadian mother always planted radishes in the same row as the carrots. The radishes sprout fast and keep the soil from crusting over the carrots and hindering their sprouting. Also, pulling out the radishes effectively thins out the extra carrot plants.
I think it's amazing how you're daughter has the same positive disposition as you! I anxiously await your videos every time. They post at 9am my time so it starts my day off in a happy mood.
This is one of VERY few channels, maybe even the only channel, i watch every video of. I get bored easily but not with yours. Maybe because i live and grew up in a tiny farming community..... but i love when your vids come out, been watching for a couple yrs now!!! Much love from the PNW 💜💜💜🙌🙌🙏
Always a good day when Sandi posts a video. Thanks for explaining the Orf.....I thought it was the new name of another favorite lamb again, lol. I’m so excited for you for the roof repaires! No more flooding! What a relief. Thanks for sharing the garden. I’ve started my few plants indoors due to our colder weather and the fact that our birds like my seedlings way too much. I’m just loving those automated tractors! A real Godsend! ❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍🐑🐑🐑🚜🚜
Thanks for the tour. Your garden is going to be amazing. Here in Alaska, my garden is just starting to come up. It's just a patch garden now, but something I can manage myself. Last year it was so hot and dry here. My husband and I worked for forestry driving fire fighters to fires, so the garden had to pretty much survive in its own. I did get some greens out of it, but that was about it. Love your farm. God bless.
I love when onions are harvested in my area. The whole valley smells wonderful for several days. There isn't any other crop that has a strong fragrance, except in the fall when people are getting their chile peppers roasted. Yum! The joys of agriculture in New Mexico.
Having driven through Central/Northern California during garlic harvest a number of times I can attest to garlic also being a wonderfully fragrant crop. There’s nothing like several open trucks of fresh garlic passing you on the freeway
Carrots must be irrigated from above and be kept moist until they germinate so they can penetrate the crusting on topsoil. The garden soil look as dry.
What an awesome video today. Be careful with Orf, but then again, you know what you're doing. Thanks for sharing another day of your life!!! My days are complete with Sandi and her Sheep!!!
Hi 👋! From your neighbor to the south! Here in Michigan USA! I came across your channel months back! I love watching your channel! I grew up on a horse and cow farm! I miss it so much. Keep up the wonderful videos because I enjoy watching them every day! God bless you and your family and stay safe!
I'm going through some of these vids. I can't wait to see how you preserve what you produce from the garden. I raise a small one and it works my butt off in the summer preserving what we have.
We always sprayed ours with Bedadine. It helps kill the virus and also dries it up faster. The ewes udders can also get sores & makes it painful to be nurses on. Good luck !
Beautiful sunset clear sky. Here it Yarmouth Nova Scotia we get lot of fog and fog banks so clear sky's are the best .we have a beautiful lighthouse it's called the Cape Forchu Lighthouse.🇨🇦❤️🌄
Sandi - Great video. An assortment of tasks on this day, which is truly the life of a farmer - everyday is a bit different. Blessings to you, Mark, and your family. Stay safe, and stay strong.
I'm an old retired feller in northern Minnesota and I raise goats we had a similar problem with our goats they called it sore mouth we figured the birds put it on and when the goats ate the they got the disease wish you luck I love your show
Thank you so much for your videos!! I drive OTR down in the states, and your videos make me feel so much less alone out here. Your videos have inspired me to want to start my own sheep farm when I finally settle down somewhere! Thank you!
Just wonderful. I love that you showed us the garden, my little planter boxes are just starting too... yummy watermelon radishes.... You are doing awesome and I love the updates. As a side note, it is nice when you just bring us along for the day, because to you it may seem "Well I do this all the time", but for us it is more like "Oh wow, so that machine does this, and how does that work?< Neat O! Then seeing Kenzie {sp?} going after the tires and seeing the lambs growing up is awesome!" So please keep us around for the ride! Hugs from Halifax...
After I saw you setting up your garden, I wanted to grow some things on my own. I planted radisches and carrots and they are already green liettle plants peeking out of the dirt. I think I have to take out some of the little Carrot plants in a few days, because now that the little seeds are all plants, I see that I definitely planted to many if them for the little space I have. .
Orf is a virus. Antibiotics are completely ineffective. The virus running its natural course must be coinciding with your antibiotic treatment, because they are simply doing nothing.
I worked at a farm where we had orf every year, we called it sore mouth but it's the same thing. It lived in the soil so we knew every year we would have to be on lockdown since it it contagious and the USDA would have to inspect the lambs every month or so to decide if we could be cleared to sell lambs. We also would check weekly to look for pustules. I have never seen one as bad as the lamb in your vid so I hope she gets better soon. We did always wear boots that were specific to the sheep and changed before leaving or wore shoe covers if we were not leaving and we had to wear gloves just in case we'd contract it from touching them.
Beautiful Sunset for sure. So happy for you that the Barn will be fixed for this next Lambing. Can't wait to hear what you have going on with your friend. I'm sure it will be very interesting. Glad your Lambs have been progressing so well also. Nice to see your Garden growing so well. Family working the Farm together is a Great Thing Also. Peace Be With You All ☮️
Sandi, I can’t wait to see what you are up to behind the scenes!! Congrats on getting your barn stretched and chimneys out back in!! Much love to y’all!! Love from Kristin in Oklahoma 💗💗💗
It's a good thing that Orf is self limiting, and you don't really need to treat them. You don't need more work than you already have! I can't wait to hear what your project is about! I hope you don't keep us in suspense too long. And your huge garden is looking great!
There are several live vaccines available in Australia. Application is a simple scratch inside the ear at lamb marking (up to 6 weeks for us). You have often mentioned the "bad comments" regarding your barn. But i love it. Its so beautiful and light giving, it looks like an amazing place to work. I've always loved your barn because of the amount of light and the sounds of birds flying about (even if it drives you a little crazy) the old style barns are fine, but yours is lovely. And that footage with the sun set is simply amazing. Have a great weekend Sandi
Sandi, what a lovely video. I can see you were genuinely having a good day today. your enthusiasm and love of nature and life is so so charming and after a few videos of you having bad days, this was simply lovely to see 💕xxx
Gallager company should make a wand that is small and attaches to your wrist/hand that way you can hold and touch them to record. Sometimes it seems long and awkward when trying to wrangle a sheep!
Well life isn't perfect and like you said we get thing like chicken pox and I would think as a fellow living creature they would be able to get virus too boy we are all learning a whole lot of things about virus these days aren't we....🤔🤔🤔 your garden is coming along and I think it's great that you are doing it for the whole family that's great!!🥰🥰

I was thinking the same thing. Once you notice the spot, immediately remove the lamb from the rest of the flock. Is there room in the barn for an "infirmary"?
Hi Sandi, since I don't live very far away, I too just switched from my winter garb to lighter wear. We seem to have a binary climate here. Too cold, then too warm with a couple of perfect days in between, which we have now.
In cattle when they get dermititus we use tetracycline or copper sulphate to get rid of it tetracycline is not as harsh but bolth work for digital dermititus. Just a thought.
Looks like you had a beautiful day. I love sunsets!! The garden is looking good. I always get weeds in my carrot rows, too. Great news about the chimneys.
When we first started we had sore mouth every lambing and kidding. But the last 5-6 years nothing. I think a lot of it is the natural immunity in our flock. But very odd that it just never came back again.
Bottle babies----What do you think about vaccinating, loading, moving, weighing, putting in the clean pen across the road? I understand it will be a long day, but, more of your time is very valuable this time of year.
Glad to see you again I enjoy watching you and I have a better knowledge of what goes on in raising sheep. Its very interesting. God bless you from Michigan
Thank you for another great Vlog! Love to hear good things from you. The garden looks amazing; please make sure you are wearing sunscreen! Your skin is like mine and I have already had to watch spots. Hope the lambs get better. Love from Texas!💗💗💗
Love your videos. We haven’t had it for about 10 yrs now but every once in a while it pops up. We used Listerine and spray it on there noses it seem to speed it up a little. Maybe knocks off about 5 days
I curious how those last triplets did who all stayed on their mom. Was she able to service them all and did they all thrive? If so will that change your management in the future about leaving some triplets on mom if her milk has come in well?
We call it Sore Mouth! I have it run throw every few years when I have to replace some of my milking goats. It spreads when the stealer nurses off a ewe and her own lamb nurses and get the blister juices in their mouth so all the sheep that haven't had it yet will get it. I hate when the babies get them in their eyes!
I remember that name: sore mouth, and we always put used engine oil on it, and that seemed to stop it from spreading. Not sure what the scientific reason behind the oil was.
When trying to grow carrots next maybe next time cover with some burlap and wet down the soil really really well and your carrot should come up better next time maybe
Hi from the U.K I'm new to your channel I used to Farm organic Sheep. Orf was a problem in the lambs here too but salt licks seemed to help as well as a homeopathic remedy in the drinking water from my vet. It was rock salt which I believe is Himalayan pink blocks
I am a nurse and we have had patients who have contracted Orf from sheep. So be careful.
Orf is called sore mouth, it doesn't just pop up now and again. Do you quarantine new rams. Could you have visitors carrying on clothes or picking up on your shoes at the auction? Jess, 'you smell good'..
You, sniffing underarm, 'i do?'
Love it!!!
Must be code, if I hear, "you smell good." I don't think I would be smelling my armpit. I probably would ask, "What are you smelling?"

I was sitting and waiting for this to drop. I might be a little excited for your vlogs! Hope you have a great weekend Sandi.
Too sweet! thank you!!
I love how Kinz got excited when you were setting up the hay chopper, like “oh we’re gonna fight this machine? Can I help?!?”
So funny when you said I’m finished planting the garden and you show us a field lol
Putting a locking caster wheel on the hay grinder would keep it from scooting when you start it.
I talk to my emerging vegetable plants too. 😀

Dear Sandi, I have to say that I love watching your videos!!! And I am so excited for your home garden! Blessings to you!
Self driving tractors gained popularity before self driving cars
to be fair...tractors don't have the amount of traffic to contend with compared to cars.
Word. Lol
Why did I read that as tacos 😅
@@lizarmstrong6695 hmmm... Feeling hungry perhaps?
@Acer Acres several years ago I said people are so lazy they will invent a machine to blow your nose and dog gone if they didn't !
Sandi, run some string between the pea rows parallel to the ground so they have something to climb. Make it about 3 feet high.
NOTHING BETTER than finishing up a week of work, changing into my sweats and laying in bed watching a Sandi Brock video!! Life is good.😊🐑

let the carrots grow a bit, then thin them out. You can put the thinned ones in soups or stew.... just wash 'em & cut off the tops.
Sandi u can use a antibiotic spray and spray it on the orph and it get rid of it that is what we do and it works very well

Beautiful day .... saw your chimney view on IG .... exciting can’t wait to see your video of it 😏👍
Little old lady use to cut milk cartons to place around corn after it popped up. So the birds couldn't pull it up.

You are so cute...Really excited about your garden. Keep up the good work with it. Takes so much work to have a great garden.

I love spending time with your family. Thank you. Been a hard 3 days in the barns here. Your life post was refreshing.
Hey Sandi I have had some issues with that be virus to sure dose suck😕 hopefully it will get through there systems quickly poor little guys.💜💚💛

Hey Brock Family👋 awesome sunset! 😆❤👍
You and your daughter are so charming.
Sandi, get a wheel chock for the front wheel on that hay chopper. It won't jump at you when you pull the rope and it won't creep while it's running.
The garden looks so good
thank you!!
Sandi Brock do you have a scarecrow I call scarecrows working dolls
@@SandiBrock ask your vet about scabivax forte for your next lambing.

I just love all that you share with us!
I'm growing peas too, they so cute. Also radish, beetroot, tomatoes, leeks and herbs. It's so cool. Oh, and nasturtiums too.
Love the Sun Set going down.
You need to keep Rusty and the Black one as your official farm animal's nothing happens to them until they die naturally. They have such Amazing personalities they are just special. 😁❤
that sunset really made me remember summers at the horsebarn for a second there. awesome memories!
Gardening is like that, just keep trying. If your beans and peas are up you might need some trellis. You can just use t-posts and fencing but they will need something to climb on. So happy for you.
@Sandi Brock can you take that lamb with the bad case of ORF and separate him from the flock so the ewes dont get it
I was thinking the same thing. Once you notice the spot, immediately remove the lamb from the rest of the flock. Is there room in the barn for an "infirmary"?
Intensive production always exacerbates a disease outbreak, by the time you see it, the whole shed has been exposed.
Once a sheep has had ORF they dont get it again.
Yeah update on garden!! I was so wondering!! Fun!! Mother/daughter time love it!
Mom & daughter so funny! Amazing
Beautiful countryside and sunset

When we have an accomplishment no matter how small, it is exciting.
Love these videos that has a little of everything.
I curious how those last triplets did who all stayed on their mom. Was she able to service them all and did they all thrive? If so will that change your management in the future about leaving some triplets on mom if her milk has come in well?
That looks "orf-full " poor 🐑!
I'm way more excited than I should be that you're getting your chimneys finally! 😂
When trying to grow carrots next maybe next time cover with some burlap and wet down the soil really really well and your carrot should come up better next time maybe
family helping each other very cool.

Hi from the U.K
I'm new to your channel
I used to Farm organic Sheep. Orf was a problem in the lambs here too but salt licks seemed to help as well as a homeopathic remedy in the drinking water from my vet.
It was rock salt which I believe is Himalayan pink blocks
Rusty is so cute
I love when you teach the auto steer. I know very little about it. I have to drive all our fields.
