    My 88 Runs OBD1…assume the 91 does too. Short the pins on the OBD1 connector and read the “Service Engine Soon” flashes (you can Google how to read the codes). That will give you an idea of where to look.
    I had all sorts of readings - ended up replacing plugs wires, distributor cap and rotor, coil, EGR valve,relays, etc. Finally, I got an OBD1 flashing sequence that pointed to the computer. The computer in mine (88..2.5L) is an aluminum box located under the dash, behind the glove compartment. It’s kind of a pain to get out, but you can…one screw hold it’s blacked underneath the dash. I found a replacement computer in a junkyard (you have to have the same serial number box). There is a strip cover held on with two screws. Remove that and you can get to the EPROM inside. Transfer the EPROM from your truck to the replacement computer. Then connect and reinstall the computer.
    Once I did that, my truck Rand trouble free…and still does. Good luck!!

    Thank you for the video.. I three weeks ago I picked up my 89 S10 2.5l Iron Duke and I am running into some of the same issues. Me and my friend just replaced the timing gear and crank gear. We have not yet timed it... I still need to buy new distributor cap and rotor coil wire's and spark plugs. All this because my truck died on me a week ago. My motor was running a little high and it had my friend said he heard a little ticking sound. After we ran some test we found out the cam gear was not on right and loose.

    rough idle might be the MAP senson -its the black item attahed to the front of air cleaner housing Also the Idle air control valve it is under the air cleaner it attaches with 2 screws i saw a video where you can clean the Idle Air Control Valve i guess you can clean it with brake cleaner (dont fill up the part cause it is electrical the point of the valve should be clean and clean the inside of housing being very careful be real careful when installing the IAC the screws are small place something under the area to catch the screws incase you drop them a white rag or whatever
    check other videos gather info hope you can sort out the problem but it does sound like the MAP sensor
    uh i just noticed this video was 13 years ago well im late

    Use mass air flow sensor cleaner for the maf sensor and carburetor cleaner for the carburetor. Helped my 93 s10. Oh and replace you your Idle air control valve if that doesn't work. More pricey though.

  • @oliviahorne9740
    @oliviahorne9740 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You got to take the air filter off and look in the carburetor and you'll see a like a little deal that has like a flange on there and you got to clean that up or replace it and that's what was wrong with mine

    I'm having the same problem with mine RPMs go up and down the motor going all over the place it turned out to be that green plug in front of your carburetor it's disconnected and you'll notice the difference if it stops that means it's that part start buying things like crazy disconnect sensor at a time and see if your truck makes a change

  • @whspioneer89
    @whspioneer89  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does the engine turn over with normal compression? I think the distributor is driven by the camshaft. Could be timing chain, broken camshaft or broken distributor shaft or gears.

    great truck but i have a EGR System failure & i just dont know what is wrong i went out and bought a new EGR valve but that did nothing took vaccum solenoid from another s10 did nothing it only seems to run good while the Intake valve i think it is, is blocked off but i dont really want to run it like that because the engine heats up fairly quickly i also changed to 02 sensor plugs & wires, distributor cap and rotar fuel pump and i believe i changed the fuel filter too and still runs rough

  • @whspioneer89
    @whspioneer89  10 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you start it up right away after shutting it off it starts ok, but not as easily if it sits. Try letting it sit and before starting it dump a little gas down the throttle body, maybe a tablespoon or two. If it starts and runs right away probably a fuel delivery issue. Could be low pressure from pump, dirty filter or maybe injectors.

    The problem ended up being a bad computer. Replaced it with a reman unit from autozone and it ran great after that

Can you restate the problems you are having and any remedies you have tried? Thanks again. ps, I have uploaded more videos about my trucks problems and the fix that finally worked, new computer.

    I got an 87 Chevy s10. Just replaced the gasket between the throttle body and manifold. This appeared to help a little.If I let the truck sit for 10 minutes it takes awhile to start. The fuel pump has been replaced. Is this a Vacuum leak or what is your thoughts.

    • @whspioneer89
      @whspioneer89  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      First off see if your coolant is getting warm as in the thermostat is closing and opening normally getting the coolant up to operating temp. If you have a water temp gauge in your dash that should tell you if the thermostat works. Then see if the valve is opening for the heater. It should be in one of the hoses that goes from the engine/water pump to the firewall.

    • @whspioneer89
      @whspioneer89  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Start with the easiest things first. Check your air cleaner. Then check to see that all your vacuum lines are connected and not leaking. You can try spraying some carb cleaner around the vacuum lines. If they are leaking the engine should rev up after it sucks the carb cleaner in. Check to see if you are getting enough fuel pressure to the throttle body. I think the psi is 10-15. Look for the correct psi in a manual or online. Check to see if the egr valve is sticking open or moving while the engine idles or revs up.

No check engine lights means there is something ells going on. I think there is a computer module that is made to brake down but I can not finger out which one this is.

    • @whspioneer89

    Does this truck have a PCV valve? My friends S10 has the same motor. He has a lot of oil getting into the air filter. we can't seem to find one.

    • @whspioneer89
      @whspioneer89  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I no longer have the truck but I believe it did have one. There should be a rubber hose the size of a finger going from the air cleaner to the valve cover. The PCV valve should be at the end of the hose by the valve cover.
