  • Exercises 3 months after total knee replacement should be progressing to more closely simulate functional activity. In the first month of rehabilitation, your physical therapist is focused on helping you reduce pain and overcome acute surgical impairments. The second month after total knee replacement surgery you and your therapist are working to normalize strength and range of motion. 3 months after total knee replacement surgery you are taking the improved range of motion and strength and applying them to improve your functional mobility.

I didnt have a knee replacement, but I had a fractured patella surgery 2 months ago. Im 37, very active, and was wondering when will the "tightness around the knee" go away? Everytime I take a few steps or put weight on it, it would tighten up. It would take a few minutes before it is relaxed again. I have regained all my ROM already.

Have been in agonizing pain since the beginning of July. My surgery is scheduled for Sept. 28th. I've seen uncountable numbers of videos of patients who've had TKR and complained about how much pain they've had to deal with post surgery. Personally I have a very high pain tolerance. I am finding it very hard to fathom that my post o.o pain will be any where near what I have been experiencing over the last three months. Wanted to get your thoughts.

I had both knees done 5 weeks apart May and June this year. My surgeon ordered pain medication around the clock for 2 weeks. His mantra "It will get better". I would suggest buying a leg lifter ( to lift your leg into bed- Amazon), cane, and step stool to keep your leg elevated slightly while using the toilet. You will be able to walk right away but bending your knee may be painful. The first two weeks are a challenge but I'm sure you'll get through it. I am now able to walk 2+ miles in the park. I was sent home with a walker and a Donjoy Ice machine. I used the walker for about 1 1/2 weeks then cane for about 2 weeks. Stairs "Up with the good" leg first Down with the bad leg first, Good luck and be patient because most of us take about one year to full recovery.

I'm with you. I had a total knee replacement last November. Although I am quite mobile I have tightness around the knee. I can do the stairs, but it is still a challenge. I have worked hard at this but my range of motion is not what I expected by now. If I really push it past a certain point , my knee aches the next day.
