  • Hey guys in this video I show you step by step on how, when and where to prune your protea plant... I live in the southern hemisphere so it will be the opposite as to when you prune if you live in the northern hemisphere

    Thank you Tom. I’m new at proteas, on the Big Island of Hawaii, and found this helpful.

    what an adorable teacher, but i’m sure you hear that a lot… and what a life! such a beautiful farm. i bought my first protea a few months ago to have them for my vases. when do you think is the best time to cut a protea for display? we recently bought a mid century house and protea are the most fitting adornment. ;)

    Hi Tom, I just subscribed to your channel. I live in Portugal and I have my own channel but I do orchids and succulents mostly. However I am interested in getting a Protea for my garden and I know I should put it in a pot as my soil is not acidic. I will go over you other videos and I might need some advice later on, if you don't mind😄

      Fernanda Nascimento orchids & succulents awesome I will subscribe to you... you don't need to plant it in a pot you can easily make your would acidic by placing pine needles around the base of a plant

    Hey Tom. What a great video. Thank you for posting. You have so many beautiful plants and I look forward to following more videos from you. I have a question. When you say 'not to prune too low' I wonder how low this can be! I would like to reshape my protea even if it means missing flowers the following year (in my climate the protea will only ever flower once a year). I look forward to any advice when you will see my plant in the next greenhouse video. Thanks and take care.

    Hi Tom,Thank you for your channel! I have a question, what is the lowest temperature that can withstand growing protea outdoors?

    • @thomashancock8361
      @thomashancock8361  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, thank you for your comment and for watching, I would say the lowest is about - 1 it's hard to say but we got extremely cold last year and got down to - 7 in some areas so I would say - 1 or - 2 for older plants

    I have giant proteas in my garden. I have never pruned them. How much can I prune back? The plants are more than 3m tall, but not very dense.

    Hello Tom, it seems the top branches of pink king protea are dying and making it's way down the trunk. The bottom branches of the trunk look healthy. I have my protea in a big pot. I am not sure what is wrong and have been trying to find out by researching. I hope you would be able to know.

    Hi Tom. I just started to grow protea nerliifolia in pot here in Japan. It's 2 years seedling. Each stems are thin nothing like yours, but can I still prune it? I would like to know your suggestion.

      Hi there, it would depend on how tall the plant is, if. The plant is taller than 30cm then you would be able to prune it yes

      Try using a single cut rectangular hand file. Use at 20 to 25 degree angle.
