I live in South Wales, UK and have been growing my king protea outside in a pot right by my house back wall, which faces South. First flower this year and I haven't given it any protection. I've uploaded a picture of the plant on that plant identifier app, so that people know that can be grown here. Great video and we all appreciate your efforts!..❤👍
So pleased to see you growing and enjoying our SA plants. Proteas are from our winter rainfall area and the soil is mostly very nutrient poor ...so feeding is not usual .
I remember visiting a botanical garden several yrs ago just north of Santa Cruz California..they had many Proteas' and the variety of shapes colors etc. were amazing.
Lucky you. I love fijnbos and proteas in particular. I see videos on TH-cam about planting then outdoors in California. So jealous. Thanks for watching and your super support, on Twitter too, Happy growing.
If you are growing proteas have a look into Waratahs... the Aussie cousin. They don't grow where I am but much further south, so may be able to take the cold, dry and snow...
Just got some seeds of these, if they grow ok down there then hopefully they'll prosper in West Yorkshire! Will be growing in peat-free media though, probably the Dalesfoot ericaceous compost - see how that goes
Wow! How wonder full! Never thought it would grow in yours and mine conditions! Thanks for sharing This! I've never seen these for sale around here. If i do i will try one!
Upon review of the video, I realize what I thought I saw was a play of shadows on the greenhouse glass. I guess the egg is on my face now! Ha, ha I enjoy your videos very much.
Je viens de trouver cette vidéo super Je ne savais pas que vous faisiez aussi des protea en plus des autres merveilles que vous avez en fleurs Par hasard est ce qu’une bouture serai envisageable à mes frais bien sûr ?
Thank you for your very informative and inspirational King Protea video. I am having a go at growing one in my greenhouse in North Wales.
Well, if I can grow it in Ireland you can grow it in Wales. Glad you found the video useful and good luck

Wow what a stunner.
You can also put some pine needles around the roots, they love that
True. A good point but I might be afraid of them reducing the drainage.
Great information. Ours is finally blooming!
Wonderful!

@Todd's Tropicals They are the state flower of New South Wales, which can receive some pretty extreme climate swings between Summer and Winter.
I'll have to check that out! Thanks
You should prune it twice a year to get more blooms I live in South Africa and grow there in abundance... I also have a vid on my channel

Good for you!
Fabulous information! What was the large brick building in the background? It looked quite large and industrial.
What building? No idea what you mean. Please tell me at what time in the video!

Such a treat to see! The protea certainly has rewarded your care.🌸 I wonder if brewed coffee grounds (ph neutral) would be a good plant food for it. 🌿

I would like to know if this is Proteya cynaroides Pink King??
No, it's not.

Sorry for asking so many question. I need to know how many years you have this plant and how you control the humidity in winter??
Mine is growing out sideways how can I stop that
Maybe it's reaching for the light!

Who can say at this stage. I've had it a long time.

Wow your proteas are fantastic. I m thinking about them but they are very expansive and I m afraid i will kill them very fast! Greetings Michi
Thanks for watching.
Gorgeous! But I am one who has a tendency for over watering, so probably not the best choice for me.m
Probably not
