I got to experience a session in a hypobaric chamber when I was in my young 20's. I had to do math and write my name as the altitude went up. I knew I was killing it, because I wasn't experiencing any symptoms whatsoever. I could see perfectly fine, my color vision didn't go away, and I was able to do math and write the answers (and my name) with no problems whatsoever. Then they brought the altitude back down, it was like someone suddenly turned the color knob up on a TV: I had no idea that my color vision had gone away! Afterwards, when I looked at my notepad, I could see that as the altitude had gone up, my writing went from my regular messy scrawl to an illegible mess. The last two attempts at writing my name was just a squiggly line on the page. But at the time I had written it, I was CONVINCED that I was doing it perfectly well. It was eye-opening at how insidious it is: the euphoria is the worst part, your own brain is telling you everything is fine, when it really isn't.
JR is there an easy way to find the schedule/updates on PROTE travel plans? (Tucson or even Phoenix specifically?) I’m signed up for FAASTeam updates, but I can’t figure out how to learn about PROTE plans in advance.
@jeffreysmith6910 I believe we are coming back to Phoenix in 24. We were out at Goodyear Airpark earlier this year. We may be back to the same spot. But yes! We are coming back there. Your best bet is to monitor the FaaST team website. They will post info on all locations we will be setting up and training.
@@georgebrown3097 Do you know when the Altitude training chamber in Oklahoma City will be available again? I keep calling and just getting a voicemail.
I got the chance to do the real pressure chamber in OKC when I was in college, and it really was a great experience. I'm fortunate that my hypoxia symptoms make me feel terrible, so theyre easily recognizable, and I'm inclined to try and fix them
I think this is useful training for General Aviation pilots. Aside from the utility of this training, it seems to me there might be a need for recognition of hypoxia symptoms on Pennsylvania Avenue. Just saying.
Would love to do this especially since I will be taking delivery of an SR22 Turbo 1st qtr of 2025. I tried searching on the FAA site for places and dates but cannot find anything giving me this info. Can anyone here reading this help me out if possible?

Experienced the exact same thing. Scared the living daylights out of me.
Thank you everyone for your participation in CAMI's PROTE. It is our pleasure to serve you!

@billyterrell24 Jan 2024. Our manning is at present is minimal. We are in the process of replacing some of our retirees.
@@georgebrown3097 thanks JR for the direct replies. I’ll be looking out for it.
I hadn’t heard about this portable system. I look forward to getting this training! Thanks!
I finally got a chance to do this at AirVenture this year. JR and the rest of the crew are phenomenal and the experience was absolutely invaluable.

It would be awfully nice if we could schedule the actual altitude chamber in Oklahoma City. Still, the PROTE is probably better than nothing.
Love this video very informative and very interesting

I would like to experience training like this.
