when they decided to self manage, i'm sure they already anticipated the risk, the hardships of being self managed. they didn't just decide to self-manage when they woke up one day. it's a group choice, a planned business decision they all agreed on. and they want more creative freedom when it comes to their music, while learning the business side of the industry. these 5 gentlemen are young and in the prime of their careers, they are growing and learning...let them. and wish them all the best.

My thoughts exactly and I wholeheartedly agree with what you said. I'm sure They've thought this through a gazillion times. And met with people for advice on how to run a company. They probably hired people for their business and admin team to help them, but are still the head honchos. And by the looks of it, they've blossomed a whole lot more after they took the reins of their careers.

From the information made available in their own published material, it appears that the SB19 management and operations team in 1Z Entertainment is essentially the same set of individuals who had already been working with them when they were still with Show BT Philippines, with the addition of Justin's older brother Julian de Dios (who has prior entrepreneurial and business management credentials) as the 1Z Operations Manager. This indicates that the SB19 members as business owners and executives don't really have to start from scratch, nor even take all operating decisions themselves, since they have on hand a group of trusted professionals who can do most everything on their behalf, including computing and paying the correct taxes!
I expect that their decision to be self-managed will turn out to be the correct one in the long term, even if it will not always be smooth and problem-free -- nothing ever is! It is evident that their creative output since their independence is already of a higher level than before -- this can only be the harbinger of even better things, both artistically and business-wise. Let's keep checking on them annually, or with each new album or EP release, whichever comes sooner!

Difference with SB19 is that they’ve been hands on from the beginning and it equipped them along the way. Their experiences are enough to cover every area of the business which can extend as they raise their next artists. I believe that the business model was built around them accidentally and they were able to absorb both the good and the bad enough to prepare them for what’s ahead.

I also hope that they would continuously look for sponsors who can fund them so they can consistently shoot and produce a big-budget music video.

Being self-managed artists indeed presents tremendous challenges because the artist is faced with the both artistic and business aspects of the company. Hopefully SB19 will be able to generate enough income to turn a profit in order for them to continue with 1Z and make it grow. They have so many aspiration still.

In addition of pressuring the artist on what the company wants not thinking the perspective of the artist kasi big companies only think of their benefits not the workers…. Mas graveh guro pressure sa korean company coz that goes with their tradition, way of thinkin and so one kaya marami nag axiety attack lead to negative impact.

After the exhilaration of knowing SB19 was now self managed, my practical business mind started taking over. The boys seem to have good heads on their shoulders. They say they have a good team around them. However as an entrepreneur and an erstwhile concert producer/promoter myself, I can’t help but be concerned about the boys now. They have that “extra baggage” to deal with. Also, some concerns involving the “management team” hav recently been hinted at - real or imaginary I cannot say - but they do make me pray hard that they haven’t bitten off more than they can chew. But this early i hope someone external like yourself could give them a heads up before it’s too late. And I hope their “management team” can healthily clinically detach themselves from their personal devotion to the boys to be able to give them sound advice when they most need it. I also hope they realise they need representation in the US if they hope to progress in their quest to make a mark in the West. I love these boys and wish only for their success.

I just wish SB19 to go along well in the business and for 1Z to foster in the long run cuz the boy's plan for their company is promising.
As for other K-idols going self manage in the future , wishing them the best too cuz I think its still pretty hard even if they have left and right endorsements. For all will go down the drain if they won't be able to find the right people to work with .

i think in order to self manage your own group, you need to have a member who can create their own song. if your relying all of creative direction to other people, then self manage isnt applicable. on the other hand SB19 create their own stuff with a little to none help from their previous management. tho im not discounting the help that sbtown did to sb19, the boys clearly can be independent and handle their selves very well. they covered all the areas and checks the box that is required to be self managed.

This. Thanks for tackling the business side of things. I find it off putting when people romanticize their “freedom” without looking at what it squarely entails. TBH I felt some initial trepidation when the boys declared their plans for self management. It’s a hefty undertaking that requires them to go beyond the confines of their “art” and start
looking at contracts, capital structure, manpower resources, OPEX, taxes and yes…cashflow. They can’t be whining if management can’t shell out money for an MV concept coz THEY are management. Their people will present them with P&Ls for solo projects, partnership ventures and in the future, managing PPop groups that can present new revenue streams. Ultimately, their fate is literally their own. I wonder if they bought themselves out of their initial contract or didn’t renew when the time was up. Also if they had to take loans to properly fund 1Z or put their own money for shares.

As a fan, I will do my best to support them and not second guess their decisions. They have proven time and time again that they make sound ones. If things don’t work out in the end, that’s life, nothing is guaranteed, at least they tried and I’m sure they have thought about this over and over and over. Let’s cheer them on kaps! They have guts

@@manell59 Just like the vid, I am looking at their decision from a pragmatic POV. I am not saying they are incapable of self management. I am just saying it isn’t as easy as people think because they are literally making million-peso decisions that will affect not only themselves but also the people (and their families) under their employment. It is good to discuss the financial side of things so we get a better appreciation of how they navigate it and overcome the challenges that come with it. This is why I always breathe a sigh of relief whenever they bag endorsements or renew contracts post-SBT. Also Stell’s stint on The Voice Generations means they have revenue that also builds brand equity bec the show has amazing mass appeal and is aired on a major network. These things plus their earnings from the tour + merch will keep them profitable and stabilize their enterprise.

I think it was the right decision for SB19 to be a self-managed group. I'm pretty sure they didn't do this without weighing the pros and cons. They even had the connections to back them up on the business side of things. But we know now that they eventually made this decision due to how slow their plans and progress were with ShowBT. I'm sure they were thankful for the company and Tatang Robin. However they wouldn't be able to see the amount of growth they have now if they didn't do this. Because honestly, as risky as it was, there aren't many or imho any companies they could have signed with that's in the Philippines that could give them what they want. They have admitted they are just starting, and though they are moving into greater heights of recognition such as with Gento and Mapa, they are fully aware that SB19 will not be around forever - but the MAHALIMA will continue to be 1 family ("hanggang sa huli", and so as they older they hope that they thru 1ZONE will be there to continue to help support others so more households, fans and future generations love and celebrate P-POP. So what's the difference between self managed and managed by a company? And also what are the advantages and disavantages? Some of the disadvantages of being self managed were tackled here but if there are any what are those?

  • @agbayani33

Same, same if they manage by some agency. Lets put it this way if the agency and the talent have agreed to 70/30 percent profit sharing which the latter rwceives by the talents. If a group was self manage, this 70% will allocate for the operation expenditures. The good thing here is that they have the freedom to cast their own ideas, showcase difderent music genre and not selective.

Bad experience and no happiness from their previous mgt the reason why SB19 decided to self manage and their songs lately can attest to that. The best Sb19 could do when doing concert specially abroad is to look for legit and big producers that will finance all their concerts so that they will no longer have any problem when it comes to financing and managing the concert but i hope before approval of any concert they will be able to negotiate well what they want. Self managing also have many advantages now they can collaborate to many artst do more songs they want and also release their own music aside from their own business. I just hope they established 1st their own company for at least 3 years before managing any artst bcoz its very crutial and they might end up backruptcy if their artists may not do well. I also hope they will be careful in getting the right people on the job, dealing contracts and dealing with producers specially abroad coz these boys still new in the business hope they will guided properly and not to deal with fake and abusive people.

Madam, thank you so much for caring about our SB19 BOYS, your inputs are so much helpful for sure to our boys who have decided to manage themselves and it's no joke as you have listed the requirements for them to continue whichever path they choose to take. There are big differences on running a company from just the Philippines and wanting to get World Domination means a great effort. Our boys want to try while the pot is hot and with the people they have selected to help them through this journey are all with the boys through thick and thin. In God with Trust, this is what brought the boys together in God's plan, most of our boys have gone through hell and back this is what makes them strong, this is what makes Filipino survive the hardship of life which is second nature to survival. Our #SB19 BOYS has #SB18 forever we say and pray that they will back up the boys in this endeavor they have taken on. In Jesus' name. AMEN 😇🙏😘 SALAMAT PO more power to your channel.💙🌍💙🌍💙🌍💙🌍💙🌍

yes madam. naawa ako kay pablo. kasi grabe ang pressure. imagine he has to do more music to make the company going. yong gagawa ka ng music di dahil INSPIRED KA per se, pero dahil, mey mga umaasa na sa iyo na mga empleyado. yong mey lull sila anong next sa kanila, daming naghahanap sa kanila. eh busy nga sa kakagawa ng music si pablo. tapos madami ang umaatake na baket naglalabas ng solos yong ibang members. eh need nga nila ng "fillers" habang nagawa pa si pablo ng music para sa grupo. some fans dont understand the situation. kaya pag natapos ang current tour nila, mananahimik na naman si pablo, and the other members will be doing their own thing, solo projects just to get the business going... madam paki NOTE lang na nandyan pa din naman yong boss nila sa showbt, yong mamang laging nauna sa lakad nila. that person still owns 12.5% stakes of showbt ph. i was so surprised na yong total networth ng showbt ph is just 12M. 12M is too small for SB19 kaya dapat lang din na nag self managed sila. san makakarating ang 12M?

SB19, I am sure did not get into this self- mngt decision blindly, they are all smart ym, which in my opinion was proven for holding back in releasing their new EP, they made sure it will be theirs and not get messed up by the former comp, and they have the most valuable 5 assets, themselves. If certain % of their solos (earnings) are put in into the comp, with Stell as the latest with The Voice coaching, which I think might be a hefty one, them performing as a grp in concerts, mvs/album/song sales, guestings, let's include writing songs for the grp or even possibly for other artists, choreography... presently they are more doors opening for them. I agree that they need to hire good people, a legal team, security, financial adv, PR team both local and international, stylist particularly with their outfits. Amazingly, foreign reactors, who themselves were voice instructors, artists are so into them. Who knows certain people might nominate them as new artists in the Grammy's. They are gutsy for sure, and I like that, for that means they have great confidence and trust in themselves.

Individual artist get more problem and it is not to easy to manage alone unlike a group because the group had always find a solutions or idea, they helping each others they have lot of connections and experiences with the industry even paying taxes . I‘m sure they have so many consultants to decide what ist good and what is worse, if they think they have a wrong consultant they will look another one , their families and friends they helping too. Bayanihan is Pilipino mentality helping each other when you need a help specially artist helping artist!!
