These shoes are just awesome. Already did 680km in them and they still look new and perform as when I bought them. Had the Hoka Speedgoat 5 and the Asics is definitely better quality.
Nice review. Thanks!
I need to get my feet in a (few) pairs of Asics. Seems like they're doing a good job keeping up with the competition.
I got them last summer after seeing your 1st review! At the time I was just curious and starting out in trail running. I now have 535 miles on them, have been thru slush, frost, snow, slick mud, pouring rain, technical trails, swiss hikes, +1,000m to 3,952m mountain summiting hikes in TW with them - and they are still like brand new. I can't really compare other shoes since I never needed to get another pair of shoes, but I feel qualified to say these are definitely cherry picks for ultras and power or fast hiking if they fit your feet the way they hug mine 🥰
Did you find the midsole gets harder in cold temperatures? Solereview says the midsole doesn't perform well in cold temperatures yet they say the new version V3 performs great in the cold, I doubt there is huge difference since its still the same FFBlast foam.
@@Kaisersozze I honestly haven't noticed that. The coldest I've run these in was a 50k trail in single digit temp this past Jan but I do wear insoles (flat feet) so I might not be any wiser to comment on this aspect!
okay thanks for the response@@charlotteXultra
I have the HOKA SPEEDGOAT 5 ... they are great but i want to test these or the new ballance fresh foam x trail ...good review BTW !
Before even watching this video I was going to comment on my biggest pro and con of the show … you nailed it on both!! The grip of these is absolutely insane!! Most grip in a shoe I’ve ever experienced. And also about the rolling part, I find I roll my ankles a lot which luckily my ankles can take it but I wish the footprint was a tad wider to help with this. Great review!!
Yeah I really like these shoes! Thanks for commenting.
Great review mate, appreciate the depth and details 👍🏻
Hey Soupy :) I've just ordered a pair of these, after watching loads of reviews. I'm hoping they're as good as they sound and I can use them for my ultra in May. I'm just willing the postman to hurry up and bring them now. Hope you're doing well mate.
@@markg99 I’ve had 3 pairs for the standard Gel Trabuco’s, the 6, 8 and now the 10’s, had the 9’s for a while but returned them to Asics as the sizing changed slightly but it looks like the sole’s are similar on both the standard Trabuco and the Trabuco Max’s which means the grip is excellent, all good, doing plenty of walking and building my running back up slowly again, keep up the good work mate 👍🏻
great overview, with that many miles, you definitely know the shoe
Thanks!
You should try the new Fuji lite 5. Same outsole as the Max, but lower stack
Hey Dan, awesome review. I had a pair of these for a while, and absolutely loved them. I had to get rid of them though, as I found they ran about a half size short for me in the length. I need an extra bit of room in the toe box especially when going longer distances. Other than that, they are perfect and I will replacing them with a half size up when I’m able to.
Good to hear. Also thanks for the sizing info!
The v3 is out now, might be of interest
I think my second run in them was the Grand Canyon. No issues.
Asics is amazing.
Im close to the 200 mile mark in mine. As you said its a great shoe, super comfortable and surprisingly stable considering the stack height I thought. Asics have just realised the v3 so I'm tempted however I've just ordered the Brooks Catamount 3 so if i don't get on with them then the TM3 will be getting ordered 😂
How do you get along with the Brooks? I don't know the Asics but compared to my Speedgoat 5, the Catamount 3 feel way less cushioned. They are fast but not too comfy on the longer runs.
@@offroadagain I sent the Brooks back mate as they were too narrow and ordered the Nike Zegama instead
@@paulmulks That's kind of funny. I ordered the Zegama when the were released. I absolutely loved them for the first 4k, then they started chafing at my ankle and I had to return them. The ride felt great.
@@offroadagain Yeah apart from the grip they are a great trainer
👍👍👍
I had the max and now Max 2 with a good discount 😅, for faster trail runs, I recommend Fuji Speed lineup , good for technical trail 👍🏻🏃🏽♂️
Big fan of this shoe. Thinking about the New Balance Fresh Foam More Trail V3. Have you tried it and if so any thoughts or comparisons to the Trabuco Max 2?
I have not. But they are on my list!
Excelent review. Helped a lot. My biggest question about this shoes is how wide are they. Im used to the speedgoat 5 and I am thinking about getting the asics. Also, How different it is from the trabuco 11? Any ideas about it? Appreciate a lot
Don’t know how they compare to the other Trabuco. I think they are wider than my old speedgoats. Hope it helps!
Because i was wandering the same thing before i bought them :)
Front-116 mm
Midd-80 mm
Back-90 mm
I had one and normally I used US9 for many brand shoes but this trabuco 11, I can fit half size down.
Edit: And this trabuco 11 was wide enough for my usage since my foot is a bit wide
I love everything about this shoe but last long run before an upcoming trail 25k I rolled my ankle about 4 times only on steep rocky rooty downhill (I live in the northeast it’s gnarly up here). I love everything about this shoe except for that aspect which I didn’t experience on non mountain trail runs. Trying to figure out if I go with the Trabuco for the race or play it safe with my Olympus 5 which feels like sludge comparatively when I run uphill or flats. What would you recommend? Just wish they took like 5mm off the stack height .. it feels very stable except for rocky downhill.
😂I read on another review that the Trabuco II had a lower stack height. Might be worth checking out.
excellent review. I have the same shoe (another color), around 300k made on it, I love the comfort and protection, but it is impossible to use these shoes on somewhat technical terrain with rocks and roots. my ankle rolled and I was stuck for two weeks, it was really annoying and it had never happened to me before. Today, I would rather buy Trabuco 11 or 12 (new model)
Yeah sometimes I have ankle rolls too.
The Trabuco Max 3 are out overseas, so Asics has Trabuco Max 2 for $99 US now. May have to stock up. I enjoyed them
I nearly bought the 3's but they look spec so similar I saved myself 80 quid and got another pair of 2's. I've done 200 miles in my first pair and they feel brand new still.
@@pete801 I'm just hoping the new model is a little more stable for steep downhill running. That was my only problem with mine.
@@markw76 yeah it's got some insane stack.... and its maybe a little heavy. But that comfort towards the end of a long ultra was awesome.
Look at the photos of version 3... Side by side with version 2. It seems it has the same exact midsole and outsole. Just an upper update
Just got the trabuco max 3s and ran a 32k trail race on very rocky and technical terrain and they did fabulous. No rolled ankles and the new shoestring holder thing is great. Only flaw is they are not very breathable
How do you think they will hold up to running in snow, slush and ice? I'm looking for a road to trail winter running shoe for Canadian weather.
They have great grip. The only downside would be they might allow moisture to come in because they are breathable. I will be using mine in the snow.
I ran for the second time in snow yesterday (and a little bit of ice :) )
The grip is outstanding.
Even on icy trails, you can literally feel and hear the lugs sticking to the ice.
You might think i'm exaggerating, but I'm not.
There's definitely moisture in the shoes after running in snow (recommend thanking out the insoles for better drying) but not like soaked, just a little bit. Never felt cold while running.
Great shoes to run in, regardless the weather. ;)
@@13ovidiuip that’s exactly how I felt!
Would you recommend for a 50km light trial race mate?
I think so. It’s pretty light
Would you recommend these for mountain walks?
Yes. Great traction, yet pretty light
How are the Trabuco Terra 2?
Don’t know. These are the max’s
Is there a lot of room in the toe box please?
I think so. To me they are a happy medium between Altra and Hoka
