- Chester is a magnificent ancient walled city in Cheshire England. Join us as we take you on a wonderful tour of Chester starting on the fortified walls built by the Romans and one of the most complete sets of city walls in the country. We'll walk around the historic streets and visit the famous Chester Rows, a unique feature unlike any other in the country.
Chester is also home to the largest Romain Amphitheatre dating back to the 1st Century and we'll discover how the city has evolved over the last 2000 years. Hugging the banks of the River Dee Chester is a great place to walk along the river banks or take a boat trip from The Groves. It really is a great day out or a weekend break destination. We hope our video on Chester will give you the inspiration to add it to your bucket list for a visit.

I’ve been lucky to live here 17 years now. I never take anything for granted and absolutely love Chester. It always feels a wonderful city to visit and enjoy.
Привіт вам, дякую за чудову розповідь Честера!!!❤
Another beautiful video ❤ another beautiful city ❤
Another excellent video. The tower tour was £8 when I visited in 2016. £14 now as you mentioned. It isn't worth that.
Your videos are becoming even more professional and detailed. I applaud your work and sensitive commentary. Thank you for all you do for our enjoyment. xx
Another beautifully shot and narrated visit to an incredible English town. This one is particularly unique with the amazing walk around the entire city on the wall, along with amazing buildings everywhere you look. I love all the history along with the visuals, especially how you pan the architecture and glimpse into the windows and such. YOUR channel is a national treasure and shows off your country like no others!
Hello thank you so much for the lovely comment. We do enjoy bringing our travel videos to you. Also a huge thank you for the buy us a kofi donation. This was quite a wonderful surprise, and really helps us to make more videos. It was so generous of you! Too kind. All the best Simon & Will
I visited Chester way back in 1973 and my memories are a bit hazy at this point. Your beautiful video does confirm my memory of having been in a lovely and historic city. Thank you. P.S. I love the scenes of so many people walking their dogs.
I live about 9 miles away, the wife and I are going tomorrow, lovely city.
My 2nd trip after Bath, so beautiful and vibrant! Watching this feels like a TV documentary. Your voice and presentation is top notch!
Thank you so much for introducing me to the lovely city of Chester! Even as a devoted Anglophile, I as an American and as someone with limited travel experience in the U.K., had never heard of Chester. I loved hearing of Chester’s proximity to Wales 🏴/Cymru as I have strong ancestral roots to Wales (Breconshire) through my late mother’s side. A brief visit to Wales -Swansea and Cardiff in 1985 - made us realize how many of the Welsh characteristics my family retained. Sadly, it was during a snowy January few days and we were American tourists without a car and not used to driving on the left side of the road, so we could not make it to Breconshire, 35 miles away from Swansea. Also as a former Latin student and as the daughter of a Latin teacher, I loved hearing of Chester’s Roman history. Thank you for your lovely video journeys through Great Britain! They made it seem almost as though one was visiting there in person!!!
What a wonderful letter. I do hope you will once again go to visit your ancestral home.👏🏼🇦🇺
@@deborahduthie4519 Thank you, Deborah! Yes, I would love to go back to Wales - and especially to see our ancestral home, Breconshire and the Brecon Beacons, located there; and now that I’ve learned that about Chester from this TH-cam video, I really want to visit this lovely city on the Welsh border, as well!
Thank you for the lovely message, we have been to Wales recently and will be making a series of videos on North Wales in the next month or two, so watch this space! 😀
@@MemorySeekers Thanks so much for letting me know! I’ll be looking forward to them!!! Your TH-cam tours of all the many wonderful places in the U.K. are very informative, full of history and ALWAYS enjoyable!
American here. I’ve been to Chester twice. Lovely place to visit.
I've been travelling last weeks and I've missed your videos!!! My granddaughter studied English for two months in Chester and she loved to be there!!! Thanks for the wonderful video!!!🙏🙏🙋🏻♀️🇧🇷
This was so good. Your videos really make you feel like you are right there in the city. Thank you for such detail from history to shopping. My husband and I are older and we are not sure we will make it back to England. We wish we could live in your beautiful country. Hundreds of my ancestors came to Colonial America in the 1630's and I can trace them all over England from Yorkshire to Kent and many other counties.. Thank you again!!
My thoughts exactly!
With it’s Roman ruins, city wall, cathedral and buildings from all periods of English history, this city is not unlike York. Did not know it existed, would like to visit some day.
What a lovely city. Apart from thatched cottages I think the black and white buildings are the other " typically English" buildings that I think of when imagining England. The cathedral makes me realise just how skilled the old craftsmen were when you realise that they had none of todays labour saving devices. I wonder how many modern buildings will stand the test of time, or for that matter would we even have craftsmen who could build such quality. Thanks for yet another lovely tour. Cheers Cheryl 🙂
Your voice is fantastic 😊 I am Italian,I am learning English with you ...I love the Uk ❤thank you for the videos
What a lovely compliment. If an Italian said I had a lovely voice, I would be so flattered; as Italian is (in my opinion) the most beautiful language in the world. (Cheshire, UK)
Thank you for posting, l visited Chester in September, and you have brought back great memories of that day. I also visited York after seeing a post of your trip there. I enjoyed visiting the Shambles and looking out for the cats situated on the buildings. Your recommendation helped plan the couple of days. Back in Australia now in 33C heat.🐨🦘🐨🦘🙂
Incredible place, so rich in history over 2000 years. The place was alive with people, shoppers ,tourists .Wonderful to see
Very beautiful film of a special city.
Thanks for the interesting comment!
IT'S A BEAUTIFUL PROFESSIONAL VIDEO ! CHESTER IS A WONDERFUL CITY!
after a long gap again a nice story has come , THANK YOU
Spent some time in the UK in 1998, Chester was one of the most interesting places I saw.
Hi Simon and Will. I’m so glad you’re back doing UK videos. I’ve heard the name Chester, Cheshire many times before but had no idea how charming and captivating it is. Fantastic tour, one of my favourite places you’ve visited. There’s everything to like. I could be as happy as a Cheshire Cat living there. I wish I could spend my last years in England, but I could never leave my children. And sadly, I’m not rich enough to travel back and forth. 😂 I hope life has been a bit easier lately for both you and yours. Be well. Til next time…🍁🇨🇦🇬🇧❤️
you know it must be a wonderful place if the Romans built a place there. These people had excellent taste! Love those black and white woodwork houses. Thanks for sharing!
Would stay in Chester again, one of my favourite cities.
Beautiful city. I would love to visit one day.
Another great video, and I've added Chester to my bucket list when I visit the UK next year, thanks from Western Australia 😊
My hometown/city and I am so proud to have been born there, It truely is a beautiful City and so full of history. Thank you for showing it.
Our pleasure!
Been to Chester, few years ago, did the long wall walk , lovely place, lovely video
What a lovely city. Wonderfully preserved. Adding to my bucket list.
Amazing.
Probably one of the best TH-cam vid's on Chester I've seen, having been a regular visitor there (to visit family) over the past decade. A very navigable city (on foot), large enough (with numerous places of interest) to never tire of it. Also worth visiting for it's ancient, traditional Winter Watch/Roman Saturnalia parade, in December. The riverside and meadow walk (and "Theatre In The Park" performances) are a very pleasant pastime, in the Summer. Chester's atmospheric antiquity, to be enjoyed all year round. 😍 🏛️🏺🎪 🎭 🌳⛲✨
Thank you for the kind comment and further tips of things to see and do! 😊
My favourite place, I’ve not been in a while. Great video, I really enjoyed it, thank you 😊
Thank you again Simon and Will. Another city that I wouldn't have known the history of if you hadn't taken me there. So grateful =-) Will buy you another coffee when I can so you can get your new camera. Take care =-)
Thank you for another wonderful video .
Oh my what a wonderful city to visit!!!!!! ❤❤❤. Today is my 78th birthday and this tour was one of the amazing gifts. Thank you. Great job on the video as usual. Hugs and many blessings.
Happy Birthday to you 🙏
@@Anita-rq9ev thank you. It’s a interesting journey.
Happy birthday 🎂! Wishing you health and happiness.
@@joenperkins2138 I hope it's a healthy journey 💓
Happy Birthday Joen hope you had a lovely day!🎂
I love Chester!
Pozdrawiam serdecznie i dziękuję za wycieczkę po tym przepięknym mieście.👍❤
thanks so much for this beautiful tour Chester is amazing !! greetings from Mexico city!!
The University building you saw was the former County Hall, opened in 1957 by the Queen. When the County Council moved, it was purchased by Chester University in 2009, and was named after Tim Wheeler, the University first vice chancellor.
I was born in Chester and lived there until I was 15. I learned so much about the city of my birth from your wonderful and interesting video. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I come from Chester and your tour taught me a thing or two that I didn’t know.
The Romans built Chester on firm bedrock and were going to make the city their capital but then decided to make London the capital instead because it had more trade links
As a big fan of the Victorian author Elizabeth Gaskell I’ve read about Chester and Cheshire in her novels although she calls them by different names. In my mind’s eye I tried to conjure up the most bucolic place that I could imagine and thought that I’d done quite a good job knowing what I know about the landscapes around England. Your video proved that I wasn’t imaginative enough with regard to Chester and Cheshire’s beauty. It’s wonderful to be proven inadequate in a situation like this! Many thanks.
Hello ~ Hello 🙋🏻♀️ Along with beautiful city sites, your videos always give us a good taste of history. Which makes me realize how far back your country's legacy really does goes....keep them comin'!! Ty ❤
I live near Chester and have always loved visiting. You forget what you have until you hear what visitors say. It's well worth visiting and definitely walk the walls or jog them.
A wonderful walk through Chester!! I shall be visiting next year and it’s been brought to life for me, thanks for the ice cream shop recommendation too!
These are the most entertaining and professional travel videos I've ever watched. Thank you
Wow, thanks!
Chester was/is a great place to use as a base city when touring the Old Dart on a railpass. You can reach a stack of other interesting locations easily and still have so much delightful scenery to walk around in when you return to camp and the usual tourist traps are closed for the day. Lovely memories. Thanks again!
Love all your videos, thanks for all the work you put into them
I'd love to see you both more in front of the camera though. Best wishes from Australia x
I especially liked the Roman area but the entire video is very well done. Thank you for showing this lovely part of England!
Loved it. I visited Chester this June and I really liked it, though I didn't have a lot of time there. Therefore, I'm glad to watch this video with very interesting information and places I didn't manage to visit. Your hard work is appreciated 🙏
Thank you so much for the super thanks, that really was kind and helps us make more videos 😊 so pleased you enjoyed it.
Great video. Never knew about this city. Looks like a great place to visit!
Chester is a gorgeous place to wander around and so many places to enjoy a meal or just a cuppa and cake, I'm surprised it's taken you so long to visit, living in Stoke it's only an hours run for us so usually visit at least a couple of times a year, we'll be back later this month when the Christmas market opens.
Great watch thank you.
Another interesting and educational video! I thought Chester was a very beautiful and people friendly place. One could easily live here without getting bored! Thank you yet again for your excellent work.
I’m from Chester I now live and work in the Caribbean but man I miss my home town
Luv your videos so well researched & filmed 😊
One of the most wonderful cities in the world is Chester, the elegance of English taste, the fragrance of English history par excellence, it reminded us of the novels of the great author Charles Dickens. Greetings to you and Brother Bill.
It’s a beautiful city and one that we’re proud to call our local (even though we live in Wales!). Great video and we learnt a lot. Cheers 🍻
Wonderful video 👌👌with great historical information 👍 Chester appearance are different compared to South England but still captivating, Roman look i suppose.. Your blog gives clear info in each video, I don't need to Google to know more & it's so amazing to see so much sitting in one place while I can't yet afford to travel overseas 😊 thank u both for all fantastic videos & for bringing so much joy ❤
Such a beautiful place! I immensely enjoy your videos. They are so professional. It's like having a personal tour guide! Thank you so much. Lots of love from Arkansas!🙂
Thanks for a wonderful video of our home city. We learned a few things even though we’ve lived here for years 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks, guys, always wanted to go to Chester - looks so full of history & culture. Nice they've retained the ancient walls & integrity of the place. Cheers!
Our pleasure!
History speaks here...beautiful video of ancient period ... enjoyed and loved that prehistoric time ❤️❤️❤️
Magnificent city (the old part of course not anything post war) why oh why can’t we build like this any more. Thanks for taking us along memory seekers xx
Yes agree .I cannot abide new buildings.
@@kathleenlynch5763 Mr. and Mrs. Hurst? 🤔😜😁
@theoztreecrasher2647 is that the Mr. And Mrs.Hurst from Pride and Prejudice your referring too?.can't make up my mind wether you are assuming I'm like them or just being sarcastic.but whatever sadly there is not a Mr in my life.and I am far from snobbish.are you saying all people who do not like modern building are snobs?.or is it the way I wrote my comment down?.I'm just wondering.
I love living in this place ❤😊
Stayed at the Chester Grosvenor Hotel on my first visit to Chester. Happened because my booked hotel was undergoingrenovations so I cancelled and went to the Grosvenor. Don’t think it was 5* then but I’ve memories of a great stay there. Chester is a lovely city mercifully overall free of 60’s and beyond, cheap, crappy buildings that deface so many cities in England.
Hello oh so nice to see Chester again its been many years since I was there it is a beautiful city , back when I was racing at Oulton Park Circuit we would stay the night so this brings back lots of memories back to the 1970s . Thank you.
What did you race at Oulton Park?
@@MemorySeekers Hello Simon / Tom so sorry in a later reply I forgot you asked. Back in the early 1970s I started racing mini's 850cc to start then up 1000cc then 1275cc I was friend with the late great Barrie ( Whizzo ) Williams he was my mentor in my early day , later I was fully sponsored by Viscount Portman driving a Ford Escort we did British Saloon car championship . I was very lucky where I grew up as near by was McKechnie Racing they were also a great help another bit of luck was Andy Rouse was also very close I went to school with his younger brother. Hope all is good with both.
@@shaunmckenna1923 Epic! Amazing, so cool. I used to go and watch the British Touring Cars in the early 90's and watched Andy Rouse in the Ford Mondeo and the likes of Steve Soper and John Cleland. My mate was friends with Jeff Allam and so we sometimes got into the pits which was great fun. Preferred it back then when the cars were more like the road-going ones. All the Best Simon & Will
@@MemorySeekers Thats wonderful Steve Soper is still doing a little , Andy does very little with racing he is a very quiet unassuming man , It does a lot of work on old Cadillac's . I am more in contact with Paul we are the same age 71 next month Paul worked for Williams F1 for many years and before that he worked for Alan McKechnie Racing Formula 5000. I will dig up some photos for you and send on . Going back to Alan McKechnie thats where Nigel Mansell got his big start and many others. They were greats day I feel so lucky I was able to a part of it. All the Best Shaun.
Chester was also the largest roman fort in the roman empire , as they were going to invade Ireland. It also claims to be the home of the round table and Camelot
Just "wow"! There are so many beautiful places in whole Europe - and this city seems to be absolutely wonderful.
In 2015 we did a tour of England, Ireland and Scotland which included Chester. We stayed at the Chester Grosvenor Hotel which is in your video. We enjoyed our walking tour and your video brings back memories.
Regards
Brian
Wonderful hotel to stay in!
Great video! I really enjoyed your narration and the background music. Your voice is perfect for these videos 🎉

I guess this is my home where my family comes from I can’t wait to go see it one day!!
Has a Born and Bred Cestrian , This was a Lovely Video showcasing what Chester has to offer 👏👏
After watching this video, we planned a visit to the city of Chester on our last trip...what can I say...absolutely stunning ❤️ We are Italian and had a fantastic day in a city full of English history with Roman traces. Thank you for your work, without you we would never have found this wonderful gem.
Thank you so much for the comment. We are so pleased that you had a wonderful time and we helped you find it. This is why we make the videos. 😊☺️

Such a wonderful video of historic Chester, so many beautiful buildings! New subscriber!
Welcome aboard!
@@MemorySeekers Thanks so much! I'm a fan of the Medieval world & often there is a reference to the "Marcher Lords", so this gives a geographical understanding to me. Love your channel!
Absolutely fantastic!! Great job!!
I was stationed in Chester barracks in 1942 age 18 to join the Cheshire Regiment a machine gun corp I remember marching thro the city centre on our way to the Chester Cathedral, I am now the only one left, to give my comments.
Dr
Thank you sir.
All the history mentioned in this video is wonderful. All sights are conveniently within walking distance. I visited Chester Summer of 2022, after pandemic restrictions lifted. At that time, the central downtown was absolutely crowed with tourists. A good pairing is to visit York, with a similar history, but a bit less crowded.
Good video, superb soundtrack, detailed information.
Thank you very much!
Another excellent presentation and the music is also a nice easy listening background.
Thank you very much!
Mi próximo viaje ✈️ conoceré esos bellos lugares ❤🌎
Hope you enjoy it!
Excellent video and so informative, well done.
From your excellent presentation, I can see that Chester resembles York in many ways. I loved that you included so many historical notes. What a lot of work to keep it all straight. The layers of Roman, Saxon, Medieval, Tudor, etc., make these English cities so fascinating. What would it be like, I wonder, to go to work each day in that fantastical Town Hall, or one of the stunning black timber buildings? (My old American office was built in 1978.)Your videos are always a treat, though I'm still catching up. Internet out for 3 days last week. :(
3 days! we rely so much now on the internet for everything. You are not that far behind now!
Por fin puedo leer los comentarios de los seguidores traducidos 👏🤣👍
Very nice video. Subscribed. Just started making my own video's and got a lot to learn. Yours are so professional.
Love your program.
Thank you!
great content!
I thought I`d been all over this country at least 30 times. How could I possibly have missed this place - lying perhaps a 2 hour drive from where I live ?
`Ridiculous ! Well - I`m going to have to do something about that. I can go more or less anytime which pleases me, so late Spring / early Summer next year will do....
Useful video ❤
Thanks 😊
This is a beautiful video!! Do you do the drone shots yourself? They are spectacular!! You historical commentary is just wonderful. I love it all!!❤
We had to have some help with the drone shots to help us tell the story. So cannot take credit for those. We use a royalty free site to get some of drone shots. Everything else is our own. 😊
amazing job on this video : )
Thank you so much!
Hello
By the way, I have been following you for years through my colleague Abraham Lincoln's page
🙏
Is it possible to go there directly ftom london? and how many time it takes to go there ? Thankyou, very beautyful place !
You can from London Euston with www.avantiwestcoast.co.uk/ some services are direct others require a change of train enroute. It can be as little as 2 hours and 5 minutes which surprised me! Not that long at all.
Train from London Euston to Crewe and then from Crewe to Chester. Just over 2 hours
