Oh my!!! Your videos are spectacular!!! I am living vicariously through your tours. I keep writing down “must see” on each beautiful place your visit!!!!!!
What a wonderful tour. I really enjoyed. So much to see and do. Loved the book shop. I could have stayed there. lol. I am very grateful to you both for the wonderful gift of your videos. Hugs and blessings ❤.
Both excellent touring and instincts... your decision to tour only the castle proved a good move! On the subject of the Barters bookstore... as you have done specific tours of Bronte and Austen stomping grounds, etc., is there any chance that a literary playlist, proper, might be further compiled and/or extended in the future? Anything and everything literary would be a wish list item. Otherwise, your ongoing embedded literary commentary is ever so appreciated. Love seeing and hearing you two both in the videos! Always a treat, never an expectation. Take care~~ from the Midwest, US.
I think a literary series will evolve as we visit areas where we have the artists and writers other wise we would be darting around the country to create it. We only have our holidays off full time work to travel and so have to concentrate on a specific area when we take time out. If we were full time on TH-cam as a job then we could do that and pick and choose. There are also time when we can’t film places, like in national trust properties and they hold many of the literary homes which makes hard to create a video when you cannot show where they lived and wrote.
So steeped in history and culture! Thanks for taking us along for the ride and your brilliantly thorough of all things relevant to the castle and town, especially the ins and outs of historical lineages - really helps to put everything in perspective.
as a Brazilian who have lived in Ireland for a year but couldn’t visit more of UK than Northern Ireland, this is amazing!! The history, the culture, the landscapes, the colors, everything is beyond fascinating for me! 🥰 hope I can manage to come back soon 🙏🏻
A visit packed with history from start to finish! At least the cows were going somewhere, rather than just milling around like sheep seem to to. This castle is fantastic, and I recall you saying they Percys and the Greys had some conflicts in the past. You made the right call skipping the gardens, on such a rainy day. The dining room from the Olympic is stunning, and I'm pleased it was preserved...so much hand carved detail. It would have been a crime if it was lost. Always appreciate your research and professional level narration, even in the rain. Cheers!
Outstanding! Beginning with such a warm welcome, albeit tight squeeze, from such a cute group of fluffy Cows, to the charming & rustic Alnwick Castle & Town itself! Along with the beautiful Grounds & Gardens, even when seen from above. Also the intriguing, yet somewhat alarming sounding 'Poison Garden'. Guests back then must have made sure they were in the Percy family's 'good books' before strolling through the Gardens at the Castle though! They definitely would not want to take the wrong Path out there whatever they did! Yikes! Beyond that, there's also the amazing Treehouse Restaurant, Garden Centre, Farm & Gift Shop. It would be really awesome & totally unique to have dinner at the lovely Treehouse Restaurant. Then, after enjoying dinner up in the Treetops, it would be fun to go shopping at the delightful Garden Centre & Shops, with so many wonderful Gifts, Foods & Plants. None from any poisonous Species I'm sure! Oh my! Beyond all of that, the Town itself, with its lovely Homes & Buildings is also very quaint & charming! Not to mention the beautiful Dining Room from the Olympic Ocean Liner. What a nostalgic & poignant step back in time visiting or dining here would be! All in all Alnwick is just incredible, with so many diverse & unique places to see & visit there. Thank you for sharing another delightful experience! Blessings to you both!
Thanks for sharing all your thoughts on the video. I have a feeling the poison garden is a more recent addition and not a centuries old part of the garden. I think I read it was early 2000’s. We saw a similar garden in Blarney Castle last year but they don’t lock it up. Just had signs saying don’t touch!
What an amazing place, Id be happy prowling that bookshop! How beautiful the workmanship is in the dining room from the ship and how fortunate it was able to be preserved in such a lovely way. Thanks for taking us walking with you again. Cheers Cheryl 😍
Fantastic video & loved watching the incredible beauty ❤ castle and entire environment so mesmerizing that I'm speechless 😊 me & my husband had a wonderful time watching your video, thanks a lot for sharing 😀 a perfect come back... with best wishes and lots of love.
What a great town and castle to visit. Loved the walk around the town, those old buildings were quite something. Thanks again guys, you do pick out some wonderful places to visit,
Really relaxing and as interesting as ever especially under the circumstances. Appreciate all your hard work, Simon & Will - do hope your series will encourage a few people to visit (not too many!!) as Northumberland has so much to offer - especially when the sun shines!
Missed you for the last two weeks. Glad to see another installment. Not sure why you failed to mention the soldier statues on the battlements, a trademark of Alnwick!
Wow,I've no words to say about your video-documentaries❤professional work from all aspects and this voice of yours caaaalm,I've beeing seeing you for years and every new time,I'm more surprised for what you offering to us,❤❤❤❤❤ from Greece!!!
You have offered me a tremendous amount of locations to visit. I hope to travel in my retirement to the British Isles and Mediterranean. Thanks for tiding me over with these well done videos❤
Another fabulous castle, thank you for all the history I really enjoy that. The village is beautiful, the buildings are so nice, would enjoy a stroll there.
Thanks for another wonderful video. I'm so glad you chose to concentrate on the castle, I would have made the same choice. The town tour was interesting, and I am happy the Olympic's first-class dining room interior was salvaged. I look forward to your next adventure.
Beautiful castle & delightful town. Here in Arkansas sometimes we have to wait for cows to cross the road out in the country 😄! As always thank you so much!❤
Hello Simon and Will. I just came across your channel just now, and enjoyed this vlog no end, thanks!👍 I subscribed immediately! I really like your (sorry, are you Simon or Will speaking?) easy to listen to and mellow pitched voice which makes for me, information easier to take in and appreciate. I also really appreciate all the details you include. Very very interesting, helpful and educational. I used to go to Alnwick quite a bit years ago, and didn't know a lot of what you've mentioned. Now, I shall appreciate it, with new eyes, and awareness; thank you both. You are doing a brilliant job!....And, can't wait to binge watch all your other video's! 😉
Hello, and welcome to the channel, Simon does all the voiceover work. Will is mostly behind the camera or seen walking in front. Hope you enjoy catching up on our adventures!
Thanks a lot for your fairy travellings about🇬🇧 Britain, they are unforgettable, especially midevil castles, cathedrals with glass coloured windows, I haven' t seen such beauty even in Italy, now I understand your love to your motherland, nature is fresh and breathe taking views give real pleasure, good luck in your future work, wait new videos❤
Thanks for the vlog; a local for me. Very good narrative. My daughters went to school with the Percy kids and to the notorious Hunt Balls when they were old enough. The collection of Canaletto's are incredible.
I have never met such kind and helpful people when my partner was ill on the Main Street. People stopped to offer help, advice and a lift. One lady bought us a bottle of water and I almost cried.
Another top notch video. We visited Alnwick last autumn; fantastic. After seeing the book store we now know we must go back! (Hope you’re doing alright)
Did you not make it to the book store last time? It is a wonderful place, so cosy and appealing. We are doing ok, thank you for asking. Taking each day..
What an excellent video. All that history was fantastic I was quite transfixed. Your videos are incredible. Thanks for taking me along. Please take care
I would have chosen to visit the castle instead, aswell and what an impressive castle it is. Was intrigued by the, 'Poison Garden', though. I have never heard of that before. Another enjoyable and fascinating day out.
We have seen a poison garden at Blarney Castle in Ireland but that is the only other I have heard off. I am sure there are many. We just felt the castle had more of a story to tell that is why we picked it. Doing both was too much money for a day out.
Yep. Though a lot of towns in Great Britain have similar looks branded on 'em over thousands of years of history. Never got to visit the castle towns of North East England on the several visits to the Old Dart in my younger travelling days. Did spend an enjoyable day in Petworth and the House while staying with friends 25 years ago - lovely place! Alnwick certainly looks like a worthy candidate for a visit for anyone who has the chance. Pity about the filming ban. 1 of the joys of Chatsworth and Warwick amongst others - at least in days gone by. Looking forward to the Hadrian's Wall video. Slogged in the footprints of the poor ancient Grunts with the amiable company of 3 serving RAF Officers and a gaggle of Sorbonne undergrads on my last possible visit. Sad that some nutter decided to vandalise the Robin Hood Tree. There's always one! 🙄👿

Hello Simon / Will an other first class video , I found the part about the Olympic very interesting . Thanks you as always really enjoyed it.
We were so lucky to be able to see the lounge, expected it to be in use. The craftsmanship was amazing.
Lovely to see a new video, hope all is well with the family. ❤ I visited Alnwick in January 2018. Freezing cold but that bookshop was divine.
