Jay test out some new ammo for turkey hunting! Check out the episode to see some of the best choke and shell combinations on the market! He test 20 gauge and .410 up to 70 yards!!!
The new Birchwood Casey targets are made in China. Everyone is having issues with the splatter. The original ones that worked were made here in the USA
I shoot Indian Creek .562 and .555 with Fox Trot ammo in my 870 Youth 20 gauge. I also get great results as well. Those targets are not doing well as splatter targets anymore. Good job on your testing. The Bogg Tripod is the ticket for sighting in your gun.
My benelli m2 20ga loves the indian creek 562. It does group tight at 20 tho but past that its great out to 50 with apex, federal or salt creek number 9.
It goes to show that a cheap shotgun with a great choke and great ammo will get the job done!!! I love my Indian creek chokes and TSS ammo Good luck this season
Just a quick tip. Keep your self some political signs for patterning. They stake in the ground super easy and make a great pattern board to tack your splatter targets to. Been doing it for years and they work great and are durable. 2 or 3 of those and you have a patterning board for years.
I have the 410 Steven’s , my father in law has it in 20 gauge. He shot a turkey which I thought at first he was telling a story at 66 yards. It was so.
Don’t be afraid to try the Indian Creek .555 for your 20ga. I’m shooting the .555 out of an 870 compact 20 with a 21” barrel and using Rocky Ridge 2oz no.9’s and getting 450+ hits in a 10” circle at 40yds. Tried the .562 and was getting around 370 in the 10”. Using 1 5/8os loads I get around 340 hits in the 10” with the .555 so don’t be afraid to try it out! Best of luck this upcoming season!
Those Rocky Ridge 2oz #9s are legit! I'm using them in my Franchi Affinity 3 with the factory XXF choke (565) and they absolutely hammer at 40 yards, I don't count pellets but I can guarantee there ain't nothing making it through the wall of shot those loads produce.
@@46TENI’m heading to South Texas this weekend with my older brother and great friends to kickoff the season. Gonna let both my Tristar 410 and the old 870 twenty-pop bark! Hope that IC .555 performs as well for you as it does for me!
FYI...do the opposite of what you instructed at 37:15ish put a visible sticker in the center of your pattern, then hold the sight (position the gun) to point of aim, lock it down and then adjust the sight to center of pattern. You should then be spot on.
😅 I thought that 20 was at 40 at first .. my jaw dropped. I wasn't paying attention. I have the same 410 and my shells get stuck all the time. I have to pull them with my knife about half the time. It is annoying.
Those new Birchwood-Caseys are not what they used to be. They probably hired the lady who came up with Bud Light’s Dylan Mulvaney campaign to redesign their targets to make them better.😂😂
A single #9 TSS pellet weighs 1.21 grains. At 1200 fps each pellet will deliver 3.86 ft lbs of energy. Those pellets are going to be A LOT SLOWER at 40 yards or more, and will deliver a lot less energy downrange. A #6 lead pellet and a #7.5 TSS have almost identical energy. I would go with the 7.5 TSS or #7 TSS. I honestly have not tried TSS yet. Just doing a little research because it is so expensive.
The 410 loads are called 383 Stroker like the Chevy engine. That’s why he wrote that on the shell 🤦♂️. Pretty sure that Indian Creek choke is .385 not .383. Sorry I’m a stickler for little details.
Nothing is better than TSS as far as pattern density and down range energy. TSS is 56% heavier than lead and 22% heavier than hevi-shot. For instance if you use no.9 tss it’s like shooting no.4 lead shot which in turn gives you more pellets leading to a denser pattern and with the pellet being smaller it cuts the air better and penetrates further for cleaner kills. It only takes 1.8ftlbs of energy to break the neck bone of a turkey. Hope this gives you a better understanding of TSS
Agree 100% Used to love #5/#6. TSS rocks. No question. No plans to change what works. Still interested in new loads. Total respect to Jay. Watched him in the early days of SeekOne. 46Ten is fantastic. You go Jay!

Using. 410 & shooting at extreme ranges is stupid & disrespectful to the birds. If you can't call them in close then what's the point. Just how many are you willing to wound & let run off to die. Shooting paper targets does not equal killing power in the field. Dumbest move of any hunter is to use to little of a gun & & not respecting the toughness of the quarry.

I used to live in Athens and would go to franklins gun shop all the time!
Had the same problem with some of those targets one pack didn’t splatter at all and the second pack was just how it should be
I make my own hand loads with a recipe very similar to his. They are amazing! 70 yds with #9s is a KO with the 20 gauge.
Enjoyed the vid. Very informative. Your 20 ga. seems to be shooting slightly left.

Its easy to cover a paper with that kinda pellet count. But the tss doesn’t pattern good out so far its blows out, youd kill a flock at 70

Also are those the 383 stroker shells? They are definitely deadly. My son shot one at 7 steps last yesr and it did a back flip.

Not correct. #9 tss is equivalent penetrating power as #5 lead. #7.5 is overkill unless you are landing on shooting 70 yards all the time.
