Awesome video! GM should have added a SD card slot to the infotainment screen allowing owners to record the factory cameras. Such a missed opportunity!
Hey bud, i just installed this in my 2024 Colorado bison. I kind of needed to because that baby has the spare 35” tire in the bed and can’t see. This thing makes a heck of a difference. I did install the gps because it would be a great way to fight a ticket. That was a bit finicky. But the hardest part was reading those instructions on the tiny manual that came with the mirror and the wiring. So small. Took me a bit to realize that this needs a tap into the battery as well as the aux fuze. In the bison almost every fuze is used. It’s nuts but i love it.
Thanks for this video! I just picked up a 3rd gen as well, and found this video on accident as that exact dash cam is what I was researching on! 🤙🏽 this sold me and helped with a idea of any issues I might have hiding the wires as install. Thanks again
Great video and super helpful. Somehow I missed that you bought the hardwire kit from Wolfbox (Duh!) and I spent a bunch of time trying to figure out why my mirror would not power up when I cut the end off the supplied 12v cigarette lighter cable and tried to hook it to a power source tapped from the fuse as you demonstrated. My bad! I do think it would have been helpful in the video to emphasize that. Although I watched it many times, I still somehow missed that. I ended up buying a stepdown dc/dc converter to 5v and will try that hoping it will work. I should have dug deeper into the wolfbox spec sheet to find the operating voltage, again my bad. Thanks for the great videos!
If I only want to use the ACC cable for powering on switched ignition what did you do with the B+ cable for all the time power? Does that go in a switch ignition port as well?
@BadlandIndustries Thanks for answering. Final question. So, did you just use the ACC in the fuse plug you mentioned in your video? Having some issues getting the wolfbox kit to work using just the ACC. I have the same vehicle.
Hi I am installing this today, you said 19 for the cam.. i have two wires a red and a yellow one is acc the other is battery. both for fuses. Do i need to put them in 15/19?
If you're using the harness I linked they do the same thing. They simply provide power the mirror. Since we don't have any sort of way to kick that on during say the alarm going off or something like that you'll just wire one to the 19 fuse.
This video was amazing i just purchased a Colorado bison and has the 35” tire in the bed and that completely blocks the rear window and Chevy never put a digital mirror this will solve the problem immediately. If i use you links is there some code that you get credit for sending me there? A way to help you for helping me
Yessir, the amazon links make me a couple of cents every time you guys buy. I honestly enjoy making content and parts to help you guys get the most out of your truck. I'm glad this video was helpful!
There's several sellers of the same one. It started to leak and I pulled it from the list. I haven't gotten around to designing one myself just yet. They are the same plug and shape as the second gen ones.
The colorado has a 10" mirror and you installed a 12" dash cam. Was there any issues with maybe the sun visors since you went bigger? I want the 840h for mine with wifi.
I just got my 2024 Colorado ZR2 and love your videos man! Awesome job! I was looking thru your videos looking for one on how to wire the rear camera, but all the way back of the truck from the cabin. I have a rooftop tent over the bed and can't use the 3rd brake light to mount the camera same as you. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
@aguerrero81 there's some pretty significant holes under the rails you might be able to use and run up the rack to the tent. Maybe magnet mount the camera to be able to move it
really like this as I am struggling with this minimal view in the OEM rear view. now that youve had it for a while, do you notice any lag from real world view to the cameras view?
@@BadlandIndustries I was so close to buying it today, but started reading amazon reviews on it and I've seen quite a few complaints with the rear camera not lasting past a year. have you had any issues with it so far? really looking to have a similar setup to yours because I struggle to see behind me while I have my tonneau cover fully folded
Do you not feel confident in your abilities to install this even after watching this? I would say that any stereo shop would be more than competent to install this in your truck if you provided them all of the necessary pieces
Are there settings available to remove all the text from the screen? Like i dont need to know what time it is and the quality of the recording etc. Also have any footage of how it looks while night driving?
The night is a little blown out but only when there's harsh light. Kinda like you'd expect with a normal mirror. I leave the time up there but the rest is off.
@@BadlandIndustries thanks man, I'm taking delivery of a 24 Colorado ZR2 in a few weeks and seriously considering this install. Going to check out your other stuff now!
So i have the 2023 canyon denali with a canopy on it, and live just north of Seattle, wa and rain issues. My backup camera at times have water drops on it and can't see very well. Can you turn off the camera and it still works like a regular mirror? Also i don't see a link to the step lights you installed, are they just rock lights?
You can use rainX or similar product to reduce the spotting. I do intend to make a matte screen protector for it as I don't use it as a mirror but yes if you touch the button on the bottom the screen will turn off and it will act like normal.
50+k for a 2023 truck and they won't even put the rear view mirror camera from the HD trucks....I'm tired of these cheap ass OEM's....I have the same setup in my '06 Tundra and I love it, it's an awesome setup for $200ish. I put a 128gb SD card in mine to not fill it up so fast

That would have been super cool

Yea the tire placement is kinda a joke.
Nice - I added one to a mini van and it works great when the van is full of stuff.
I need this for my spare tire swing out when I get one ! 🔥🔥
That would be a great spot for it since the tailgate one would be blocked.

Just buy the $20 hardwire kit bud. The cig socket has the 12v converter inside of it. Hope you didn't fry the mirror putting 12v thru the usb
@@BadlandIndustries The mirror is working fine. Thanks for the help
I have a simular dash cam on my H3 and love it. Way better than looking out the rear mirror.
Right. No headrests to looks past just wide open view.
Dude! That is awesome! Now I just need to buy and have you come install it!!😂😂
Hopefully this video has given you the confidence to install it yourself. Lol
Thanks for this video. Since you went with the 12" mirror do you have any interference with the sun visors?
I was initially concerned about this too. You have to get it centered but they both pass by without issue.
If I only want to use the ACC cable for powering on switched ignition what did you do with the B+ cable for all the time power? Does that go in a switch ignition port as well?
The wolfbox harness has both wires but I chose not to use use it since I didn't want the camera running 24/7
