My wife got me a VFT for my B-day because she knows how much I love them. I also have a sundew (Drosera capensis). I repotted both. The sundew I left with the soil in came with and simply added more moss to the bigger pot. It's growing beautifully. The VFT ... not so much. I had it for MONTHS in the little pot it arrived in and it was thriving wonderfully under the sun. Then, I followed these videos that show the person taking off all of the soil from the roots before repotting. In less than two weeks my beautiful VFT was dead. Not dormant. DEAD! It went from no less than 20 bright burgundy traps to every single one black and wilted down to the roots, which are also black now. Be careful following these videos.
Oh about sphagnum moss. I just didn't lay my moss in any way when I re-planted my plants. Hope they will survive. Anyway I have seen a few new plants with my bought plant so I will try one day and separate them and get more plants. One video said if they are small you can wait til they get a little bigger. Great video :) Question about the cuttings; how do you know wether or not a cutting has successfully rooted or if it died? How long will it take to see such signs?
About a month, if it won’t make it it’ll be dead by then. After 3 months you’ll have ones growing and all of those that didn’t root would be dead by this time
Thank you, I just split mine and one had no roots but I planed it anyway to see if it will root. Two leaves fell of so I stuck them in the dirt to see what happens. Hopefully I haven't killed my gift.
Ok are they inside ? Then try to get a good light. You can use a curly cue twisty light. Put in above to get best results. May not get red. But it will grow .
You should grow them outside until the nights get below 0 Celsius, then bring them inside. If you can’t get enough light outside for at least 6 months of the year then you should look at a grow light as suggested by Ken :)

Nice separation and new plants! How much time do you allow before making more plants? Like theoretically 6months, once a year or just watch? Where do baby plants come from, rhizomes shooting out? Any seeds? Nice video, great for me as a newbie carnivore grower! Thanks.
Thank you :) usually once a year, when they start growing again they may have 1 or 2 separations. The best method is to watch and see if you get more plants in a season before you try separate anything out
The majority consensus is that it drains the plant of a lot of energy and this causes the plant to grow with less vigour.
