A channel named This Off Grid Life uses a spring box for their water, he goes all through his set up. It runs most the year except for the winter, has a super long small water line, pretty interesting.
I have multiple springs on my property. I buried a piece of 36” abs sluice pipe about 2’ in the ground and put a foot of gravel in the bottom. I added an outlet pipe about 3’ up from the ground and let it flow. I put a plywood cover on it to keep critters out. No problems with it in 12 years.
We’re pretty excited. Going to pick up a water test kit next time we go to town just to make sure it’s safe. Hopefully we’ll have usable water in the next week or two.
Most of them aren’t trying to be mean, I don’t think 🤔 I take it as they’re just sharing how they’ve found things to work best. I’m probably to optimistic but I really do try to see the good whenever possible. Thank you 🙏
@@ouralaskahomestead well I hope so, you guys are doing fantastic, love your content. I'm glad I found your channel. Hope you are enjoying the process 😊 love from the UK 🇬🇧
Google how to develop a spring. Lots of info on this. I would go above where you are to see if theres a marsh it could be draining from. If there is i would question the water quality and it may not be a fresh water spring. Good luck to you! Love your dogs and look out for the bears!
Thank you!!! We’re going to get a water test kit just to make sure it’s safe but it’s all dry ground above there. 🤞 We’ll post an update once we find out.
Awe, I love it! Looking forward to more of your videos, love the dogs! I’m excited about your adventure you’re going on. Beautiful country you live in. Just too cold for me in the winter. I wish you all the very best!! God bless you my nephew., Craig!! Love you guys!!
Dig down where the water is coming out until u get better flow, build a concrete box to pipe in and out and silt will settle to bottom of box and pipe clean water where ever u want.
Nice find! We had a similar project recently with caping a spring seep on our property aswell. Apparently, Kenai area has high concentration of iron and arsenic in the ground water so a clean flowing spring is like gold because even well water is not clean here most of the time and needs heavy filtration.
Thanks! We’re definitely going to test it to make sure it’s safe. It’ll make life much easier if it’s usable. Really liked your driveway video! I spotted the old boat in the background. You get it out on the water yet?
@ouralaskahomestead Thanks! Unfortunately, we haven't been able to get it out on the water yet. We pretty much have it ready, but we probably won't get it out on the water until close to fall with all the projects we have going on right now.
@@northtoalaska2022 I know all that rain really put us behind. These last two weeks have been amazing though. So happy to see the fireweed finally start blooming. Keep those videos coming, we enjoy watching your channel.
It posible its a stream. But 1st thing that must be done is dig out that rotten stump an all roots. Being your in 30 below winters acspring box is very risky to freeze up. What i have done with many. Is i go above were water coming out. And dig down the size of a 36" concret well tile and 2 feet bigger an dig down until i find the spring.. water feed. Make sure you dig to clean graval or sand. Once you find it dig it 2x big around put geo texstil fabric on the whole bottom an up the sides an place 2 feet of washed crushed stone. Set 1 36" well tile in the bottom. Put a concret well tile lid on that one. Then set a 2nd tile beside it an put more on top intil your above grade. Back fill with washed crushed stone in the whole bottom until you cover the 1st tile with the lid 1 foot over top. Cover with large beace of geotexstil. The vynal weve one. The fill with washed clean sand 2 feet from grade. Cap off with clay. So ground water cant get in.. but that roten stump must come out as it rots it will Contaminate the water source. I put as many as 3 1 tiles with lids in the bottom for more reserve. This is the best way to develip it then you can put a deep well Commercial pump in And dig a trench 5 feet deep to your cabin for a pipe And run the pump on solar high votage not them Dc panals AC ones. You can rent a 7000lb mini ex for the weekend for $300 cnd pick up before close on Friday an drop off monday before 10am.. cheap. You can do hell of a lot of work in that allowed 16 hours
I see there is many springs around Alaska ! and you are lucky to have one on your property, A good spring is just about like finding gold :) Not to many in my area but I do have a good shallow well :)
Thank you for joining us. It’s started raining again so probably next week before we can get down there to do any more with it. We got all the fittings bought and ready to go though.
I've just started going through your videos. It will be interesting to see your built. That property looks wonderful. It's a nice view with some highs and flats. So many lots appear to be so swampy. Good luck with everything.
We really lucked out with how dry it is. The whole lot is on a gentle downhill. Even with constant rain the last three days, there is no standing water. Thank you for joining us 😊
Awesome find! Hope your able to develop it and get good water from it! Dosent look like enough flow to pool up for a water hammer to pump itself up to the home site, but still should have good water source for you to use!
I heard you said that you want to buy the property next to you, have your real estate agent write a letter to the owner I'm sure he can find out who's it is. Just an idea. I like what I'm seeing from your videos.
We didn’t use a realtor for this property, just the title office. I tracked down who owns the neighboring property and his mailing address. We’re unfortunately not in a position to make an offer just yet. Hopefully we will be before/if it gets listed.
We have several springs in our area. One of the springs supplies water to 200 households. Dig until you find the eye of the spring. We take a pressure washer to clean all the dirt and debris from the eye of the spring which enables the spring to produce more water. Just stick it in the dug hole to the eye and blow it out. Make a pond and a spring box building up the sides with mortar so it doesn't collapse.
We are in Southeast AK. I highly recommend you invest in a water catchment tank and collect water off your roofs too.
Oh yeah! That’s a spring alright!
Great!!! We’re going to get it tested, make sure the water is safe then hopefully no more buying water from town.
Great find! Possibilities. You never know!
yes it looks like a nice spring to me also so make spring and pipe it you place for fresh water
Dang, nice stairs!
Craig did those while I was at work yesterday. I tried them out this morning and it makes getting down there much easier.

The nice thing about GSD's is you always have help. Not...necessarily productive or useful help. But, it's there. 😄
So true!
You do you and ignore the mean comments. Constructive criticism is helpful, but you guys do it your way!

You found liquid Gold !!!
Yes we did! It will truly be a game changer not having to drill a very expensive well or haul water anymore.
Now you develop the spring and build a RAM PUMP to Deliver water to your house !!!!
I’ve not heard of these but will definitely look it up. Thank you for the suggestion.
the source of that spring is miles under ground it just way come to top and come of the ground
We tested it and it’s safe from contaminants and arsenic. Clean and refreshing 💧

I would try a weedeater with a brush blade, that worked for me, even with saplings up to 4, 5, or 6 " dia.
Great idea!

We have a "seep" spring that looks like that and we're not far from you. But don't you have a really nice creek running right next to your cabin?
Yes we do. Three options for water is a wonderful thing. The creek, spring and we’re also getting things set up for rainwater catchment.
We have several springs in our area. One of the springs supplies water to 200 households. Dig until you find the eye of the spring. 200 homes! That’s amazing. Excellent suggestions. Thank you for watching.
I've also seen the old timers point a gun into the spring eye and shoot to open up a spring. I'd be cautious doing it but it worked.
Awesome! How deep does it have to go to keep from freezing in the winter?
As long as it has a steady flow it shouldn’t freeze. 🤞
