I am not in the US. I decided to go for a system with a battery because I want the UPS function. We have frequent blackouts here. Also we don't have the 1 for 1 net metering, and to avoid the fees they charge for approving the installation and annual administration and metering fees, I decided to not get a double meter at all. Note that there are also solutions that can keep the power on during blackouts while the sun is shining without batteries.
Oh Yes. Deciding to give the grid a pass is definitely the way to go if you have the skills to do it yourself. Here in the US there aren't many pros who will build off grid solutions for you. Thanks for watching.
@@MySolarHomeUSA I will still use the grid as backup. We have no fixed connection fees here, all those are included the variable fees. That results in high variable rates, so saving on consumption makes a big difference. There are installers here who only do off grid installations as there are places without grid connection. I've considered to have a transfer switch installed and use an off grid installation (which is cheaper than hybrid), but a hybrid installation offers a more seamless experience. I hope.
Great video! Good information.
Thank you Doug. Always good to hear from you.

@@GerbenWulff That's so interesting. And I agree, having the option of grid backup is always preferable to going completely off-grid.
