    Ohhhhh nooooo 😱
    I’ve watched your channel as a result of watching Tyresome and noticed he lives in Plymouth.
    If you live locally, i can come and give you a quick course on welding (in the new year)
    I’ll happily spend a day with you, and i’m sure i’ll get you doing something that resembles a weld 😂
    Car welding is the most difficult to start practicing on! The material is only 0.8mm when new, which makes it very easy to blow big holes in the body.

      My workshop is just over the border so that would be greatly appreciated! Tyresome also needs to learn how to weld considering his latest project, maybe we could make it a three way? I didn’t realise the material was that thin, I ordered 0.8mm wire, hope that’ll be ok? 😂

      @@JAYPCARS Yeah, I’m sure we can all meet up 👍
      0.6 wire is what i use but 0.8 is fine. I can bring some metal with me if you want, as i’ve got lots of off cuts.
      I’ve got a video showing a wheel arch being welded “welding sheet metal”. It’s a tad boring but it’ll show you what to expect 👍

      That would be perfect. I’ve just added it to my watch later so looking forward to watching it and digesting the info when I can. I could tell straight off the bat from the way you present you know what you’re talking about 🙏🏻

      It's nice to see a TH-camr who is a local and has a passion for Jags.
      Sorry to see all the holes but a lesson learnt.
      Most certainly had a dodgy MOT done.
      Be wary of that particular garage in future.

      Yeah it’s a shame but seeing it as a chance to learn how to weld on a cheap car. Thank god I can do it inside!

    Good for you! Go for it. Be interested to see how you get on.

    To help cheer you up that's not bad my X308 Daimler needs more than that, and it will be done. I can't weld but have a good welder who does the work for me at good prices. For the wing look up Autoreserve they specialise in second hand spares for Jags. I got two front wings from them for mine good price, in great condition with no rust and one was in the right colour. Jag never bothered to protect the inside of the wings, so get Waxoyl and paint the whole insides of the wings before fitting them. Good luck, will be good to see another X308 saved.

      I’ll take a look! Crazy they didn’t protect them, so easy to do. Thanks, I’ll need the luck! 😂

    I struggled to learn MIG welding and was still at a beginner level last time I tried it, just my own difficulty with remembering and repeating the processes. Practice your safety routines before you practice the welding itself. Hopefully you have some scrap metal of the same thickness for the problem areas so you can figure out what settings to use. Get the paint, underseal etc off any problem areas, clean them up until you're about an inch into good solid metal before cutting out the bad parts. Slower is better with welding, and having a pattern like swirls or lower case e's or zig-zags to knit the metal together. I hope you can get some advice or a walkthrough from someone who is experienced.

      Great advice, will certainly take them all into account. What are your safety routines?

    You will need a grinder (to get to shiny metal) and some metal (used door or bonnet maybe?)

    • @JAYPCARS
      @JAYPCARS  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the tips. I’ve ordered a grinder to do that and the metal I’ll order or as you said, use metal from another car. Just need to know the thickness needed, maybe 1mm, 1.1?

    ... it's a very pretty car though. Would be a great learning experience to repair the affected sections. Surely a huge learning curve involved. Maybe drop the front and rear subframe first to get good access? Good luck, man!

      Thank you! I definitely need the luck 😂 You’re right, it’ll be a steep curve but worth learning 💪🏻

    Maybe buy a wing in colour and bolt on.

    • @JAYPCARS

      Probably the best thing to do, will see what I can find 🤞🏻

    Would love to see this car saved. Pattern part fromt wings and some new outer sills will sort most of it.

      @JAYPCARS  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ll save it 🤞🏻🤞🏻 Hoping I can find the bits I need without spending LOADS. We will see!

      Before you save it you should be sure the engine, gearbox etc are all good. No warning lights.

    • @JAYPCARS
      @JAYPCARS  ปีที่แล้ว

      No warning lights, drives ok apart from slight suspension knock.

    Depending on how long ago the previous MOT was done, I would be inclined to have a word those in charge of MOT testing stations and report the previous people who did the testing, for it is clear that this corrosion has not just happened in the last twelve months.
    In saying that though don’t be too despondent. The corrosion does not appear to be too bad I’ve, as have many other on here I expect, seen far worse than this. Welding is part and parcel of looking after a classic car and there are many sites on Utube which go into the subject. If it possible try and enrol on a classic car restoration course at a nearby collage, should such a thing exist. Oh, and keep all you cornflake packets because they are handy for making templates. In the meantime just plod on and learn.

    • @JAYPCARS
      @JAYPCARS  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Last MOT was 12 months ago, definitely questionable! I’ve decided to just go for it, making templates will be important. I’m sure I can manage it 😂

    Just before this video came out, I bought a Jag V8. These cars are no worse than any other car for rot.

      That’s the plan, being Christmas time and waiting for supplies to arrive, I haven’t done the work and made it roadworthy yet.
