haha I bought a horse before I even got Pebbles and when they gave Pebbles to me I thought I'd lost the money I spent to get the horse I had and the gear.
You actually just need Lockpicking on level 6 to get the Luck of the Drunk perk combined with Lasting Lockpicks. Just drink a beer or savior schnaps, wait for the drunk effect to kick in and every door / chest is yours.
The chest is now Very Hard. Ps4 Version 1.9.2G

That's where Nintendo got the idea to name Epona from, but Kingdom Come also added Agro (from shadow of the colossus) and shadowfax (from lord of the rings) so it's not out of the realm of possibility that they were referencing Zelda.
Considering Roach is another horse you can buy and you can see an npc that suspiciously looks like him (with two swords on their back) in a cutscene, there is reason to believe Epona is an easter egg

5:00 Just a note you can't do this anymore on PC, the chest was replaced with a very hard lock to match all outer vendor chests.
No such thing as a hard chest if you get drunk enough.
If you open all the locks in Skalitz you can get to lockpick 6, take durable lockpicks and luck of the drunk perks, down a beer and no lock will be difficult for you.
Probably not possible without the save without schnapps mod _in Skalitz,_ because you have only 4 lockpicks and maybe 10 saviour schnapps, but there's far more accessible locks of various sorts and ample lockpicks even in Rattay.

It's Johann (iohann) and Merhojed (merhoyed) these two are Germanic/islandic names or the J is a I or Y in those languages, this comes from the Latin J and the Greek Y who were pronounced respectively in those languages.

It mostly isn't even about this particular chest being made very hard. It's more about these devs going out of their way to break guides, either about quick money or other fuckery, because they want to force you to play a certain way. IMO they take themselves and their game way too seriously.
But yeah, I just build my new PC and can now finally properly run Skyrim with mods. So I'm definitely gonna play that too lol.

You can get a quest form Zora (The Sport of Kings) where she will give you the best saddle in the game plus some coin. She also gives the horse to race with so you don't have to do anything but a fun easy quest, for the saddle

a tip for lockpicking is to circularly move your left stick all around repeatedly while you focus with your right stick to keep the reticule in the yellow area

Unfortunately, the chest in Merhojed is now sporting a "very hard" lock. Must have gotten changed in a recent patch, I assume. Anyway, looks like we'll now have to wait until we've got our lockpick skill leveled up to 15.

I went for Sleipnir because cooler name, slightly cheaper, and only thing it's really lacking in compared to Jenda is Stamina and it seems to have enough of that anyway cause I usually only gallop full speed for bursts. Haven't decided whether I'll still grab Jenda but definitely gonna get me that gear. Had no idea one of the best armour pieces in the game was green. I've been sticking with a lesser green one.

At a certain Story point in the game i think after the Raid of Pribyslawitz there is a plague in Mehojed and if you do this quest wrong there is nobody in Mehojed anymore tipp it is not the black death it is just a poisening of the water in the well in the middle of Mehojed.
This might need an update soon, as in a DLC there are now better horses, all of them purchased in Pribyslavitz: Shadowfax, Agro, and Shadowmere. Every singe one of them references to other games/movies.

For the horse, I prefer sleipnir: a tier 5 with similar stats to warhorse. But he is black instead of white so he objectivly better!

There's an exploit you can do that I've seen in another video for getting money quick.
First, you get good gear by finding treasure chests (pretty easy as long as you have the wiki handy).
Then, you go to the armorsmith and sell all your gear, but haggle.
Just when the basket screen closes spam the inventory button to go into your inventory and drop all the sold gear.
You get your gear back plus all the money from selling it.

I agree. They say these names to the player in the game, not just text but voice. THEY SAY THE NAMES TO YOU and yet everyone who plays this game on TH-cam pronounces all the names wrong. It's fucking annoying.
It does amaze me how so many YTers mispronounce things from games. Just search YT or Google them on how to pronounce these words.
I literally found the pronunciations painful to listen to, I'm just sitting here face palming myself every time he says something wrong. I understand that it can be hard sometimes but as it's already been mentioned, the names are pronounced correctly in the game when you play it!

I decided on Pegasus for speed then used perks for capacity. Also if you want a free hunting saddle when you kill Ulrich the Knight, kill his horse as well. Then loot his horse and take all the gear off him.
You can find the 4 bags noble saddle on one of the first horses you find. After rescuing Teresa from the rapists, just look at the three horses. You'll find Olena, the horse with the best stats among the three (Also the only named one) and two other unnamed horses. One of them has a common bridle and a noble saddle.
Kill the cumans, kill that horse, loot the saddle off it and mount Olena. Then ride off towards Talmberg.
If you weren't going for an OP Henry when leaving Skalitz, you're most likely going to get fucked through the ass if you tried to kill the cumans. In which case, just forget Olena and take that horse instead. Make sure to take the gears off him before riding towards Talmberg.
Fun fact. You can just get the best saddle from the race quest for zora

If you're stuck for money invest in alchamy skill (I believe he does the guide as well) and then make Marigold
In skyrim or at least when it first came out, I haven't played it in years, there was a chest hidden in the ground below the companions guild's Smith in whiterun that had every item you sold him and all the money that you gave him in it. It didn't have his inventory though, of course that was solved by buying everything he had, looting your money back from the chest and selling everything you bought elsewhere. At the gate out of whiterun there's 2 alcoves on each side of it both of which had a tiny window near the ceiling which you could jump through to get outside whiterun without the loading screen transition. There was a spot on the right side of whiterun that let you get below the map and access to the chest.
Makes me wonder there's something like that here.
I might be a little late, but with the lockpicking skill, you can lockpick your way into the blacksmith's store and in the store there is a room that has more than 2 chest that has very hard locks. You can pick those and they would have the whole inventory of the merchants in them. Armors, swords, coins and even food.
You can then make your way the peshek and just unload everything on him. But the problem is, you need to level your lockpicking...
You can get the noble saddle for free when doing the kings horse, horse racing quest

When you buy roach, you get cool little line about some crazy Polish fella selling Johan the horse before settling down, because he was afraid his wife would stuff it. Pretty clear reference to Geralt and Jennifer and their famous stuffed unicorn scene :D

The best horse in the game is Shadowfax and this is updated from this video Shadowfax is new. I love how WarHorse got the name from Lord of the Rings Wizard horse. Even better stats and you can get this horse from building stables in the DLC From the Ashes.
Cool guide. I believe the developers intention was horse combat in the beginning but it never panned out. Thus the only single piece of "secret" horse armor in the nest. The rest were never added. Had they implemented it fully your horse probably had a chance to be killed and then again the reason for the horse traders and different horses.
The quest where you have to heal the town where you get this horse... All the animals die... Do you ever get the ability to buy the horses again???

Best horse is Trojan or shadowmere (dlc). Based purely off of carry capacity (though shadowmere has the best stats in everything if i remember, get stables for town you manage in from the ashes dlc. Its the only metric that counts. Larger carry means more loot which means more money. Slap on military horse shoes and his speed is decent, horsenip and noble's bridle ups courage, nible saddle with 4 saddlebags takes you up to 500-600 carry capacity.
Now, you would think that Zora would have the keys to her own chest so you can get into that chest. I even went around and stole all the keys from everyone in the area. Not one of them has keys to that chest....weird. Maybe I'm missing someone.
For some reason the only dialogue option there is "Lets trade" and "(end dialogue)"

money stops mattering once you reach level 15 lock picking. you just need to rob rattay dry or sasau. armory and swordsmith have the most stuff

Hey, in my playthrough, I didn't get this horse before the battle of Pribyslavitz. After which, all the livestock was afflicted by the pestilence. Will this horse regenerate in the game?
Interesting. I went with Trojan because he had the highest capacity and added the racehorse perk to speed him up but never even bother to look at his stamina...Whoooops.

I went with Trojan for the carry capacity too, after the third time getting immediately dismounted when i run into bandits i realized Trojan's biggest flaw and replaced him.

Yes you will keep everything if you buy a new horse
If you have any gear equipped or in the inventory of your old horse, they get transferred to the inventory and tack of your new horse when you buy one, without you having to do anything.

if you all don't have 15 lockpicking like me, you can also do a silly little thing where you sell back Zora the items you've just bought, but, haggle for them. As the menu closes, immediately open your inventory and then send whatever you are """Selling""" to your horse. Do it in a timely manner, as the inventory isn't exactly paused, and the haggle interaction will force you out of your inventory. I like to do this with anything that tally's up to atleast 1k Groschen. Serves you right, Zora. Ginger did nothing wrong. o7

Easier way to rob Nuehof just buy everything and then the gold will be in the chest saves you selling it off to the Miller (assuming you have enough money already)
Finally did it just now and thank you. It so inconvenient always being over encumbered when fighting around 10 banits so you have to go back n forth ew. Btw mine only 462 maybe cuz i dont have the head piece idk

Is it weird that after 3 years they still haven’t added horse armor even though there’s an empty slot for it? There’s head armor, caparison, bridle, horseshoes, and saddles but no body armor. Did they completely forget about it or was it actually added in dlc?
Btw: the carrier capacity of 521 includes the trait to reduce speed and increase capacity? Since my Jenda horse with the noble sattle just reaches 468 (268 + 200).
