  • This week I share online poker hands that include a questionable semi-bluff vs a rec, an attempt to make a potential bot fold for 200bb at 2knl and then whale around in two multi-way hands!

    I really struggle to play the spot you find yourself in at 09:00.
    After villains have continued 2 streets and re polarised to an extent OTT, I’m suddenly in a bloated pot looking down at a chunk of their folding range. Ax Diamonds have (in my mind) flipped from the best turn barrels to worst river bluff candidates and I struggle to navigate the spot. As a result, I’m giving up a lot of Ax Diamonds, and following through with lower diamond draws, although not nearly as often on a flush and boat completing river card.
    Not sure if it’s costing me EV or it’s too marginal to worry about. Love the content as per.

    • @BenaBadBeatPoker
      @BenaBadBeatPoker  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      hey mate, thanks for your thoughts. tbh this is such a specific pot and not one where you’re going to gain all that much EV at all by bluffing or not bluffing. as you can probably see in the comments, plenty of people think the A6 bluff is not good, and they could totally be right. for me as long as I’m injecting as much logic into situations, i don’t really mind making potential blunders. I think the worst thing we can do is be super face up in spots and allow our opponents to exploit us. but that also doesn’t mean getting super out of line whenever we have the chance hahs. overall, don’t sweat these type of hands - focus on expanding your thought process and show constant curiosity in hands. good luck!

  • @Alexandertygreat

    Seems like you are consistently out leveling yourself. The A6 diamonds hand is never a bad play 3way with a fish, prob standard no? I love the river bet. The K10 hearts hand seemed super spewy though, once there turn shove over cr would have been my play. But i wouldn't have been that deep in the hand 200bb oop. I like this series though, good stuff

    • @BenaBadBeatPoker
      @BenaBadBeatPoker  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i could be levelling myself! but i also think that not thinking in great depth is detrimental to wr for sure. glad you like the A6 - it's definitely not standard in my opinion though :D KThh, i'm IP, not OOP - and why would you not be 200bb deep? we don't really have control over that! shoving the turn could certainly be an option yep. but ap i think river bluff is also mandatory. thanks for watching! much appreciated

    Is there a reason we use sizes like 27% or 52% on a bet slider? I always thought it was to gain microscopic amounts of EV vs regs who studied conventional 25% and 50% sizes. But does it really make a diference since no one is playing perfect frequencies post flop? Also if we studied conventional sizes like 25% and use 27% aren’t we also giving up microscopic amount of EV by not using the size we studied? 😂😂😂

  • @RyanSpicer
    @RyanSpicer 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Dislike the A6dd bluff 3 way w a rec in hand - you don't HAVE to have bluffs in every spot. Bluffing creates incentive for your good hands to get paid, but here your good hands will get paid even when you don't have bluffs, and it's unlikely your bluff generates enough FE 3 way to make it profitable, in most cases- unless the rec is overfolding absolute strength hands alot, which usually is not the case

    • @BenaBadBeatPoker
      @BenaBadBeatPoker  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      can definitely agree with your reasoning! but I still strongly think that we will gain plenty of information from 1) the rec over leading river, with good hands, 2) the fact that they’re naturally more likely to fold the river 3 way, as well as 3) calling turn too wide not appreciating their defence burden. I think these three things combined more than make up for the times the rec makes a sticky call. but I could be being results oriented though!

    • @RyanSpicer
      @RyanSpicer 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@BenaBadBeatPoker yeah, its hard to quantify given 3 players. i think the main issue i have is if any of our assumptions are wrong, then we can be really wrong, and if they are right, its very marginal as is. but your reasoning is still solid, just seems a bit shaky in the cases we are wrong, and not sure the difference makes up for it on average

    • @BenaBadBeatPoker

      yeah can’t argue that it’s shaky at best hahaha. fun one tho!

    • @RyanSpicer
      @RyanSpicer 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @BenaBadBeatPoker was curious and did a deeper analysis on the spot. My take away was:
      It really boils down to how FQ the rec leads top of range on river.
      I think IP is going to fold KJ at some FQ here, but prob not pure, so his call FQ will be relevant given how narrow his landing range is on the river. However, it's unlikely he has much hearts that raise turn given he probably doesn't want to risk getting jammed on, so his range is likely condensed around mid strength on this river, TPTK, straights, two pair, and think good chunk does fold to the lead, so I think he might call something like 10-20% depending how his perception of you and how he actually plays turn
      I gave the rec a lead w 33% of his top of range, and that brought our bluff to around the breakeven threshold. If he under leads, the bluff becomes unprofitable, if he overleads, say pure, it becomes very profitable. So still pretty grey overall, but it's at least reasonable. Your specific notes on player will help alot determining when to do this for sure
      I'm just not sure if it's better to go for it and find out, or patiently wait to observe if it's likely to be profitable. I guess MDA might suggest recs lead top of range(not sure on this), but if so, then makes bluff more logical. It also gives us opportunity to potentially understand their game immediately, so even if unprofitable this time, can help us make more informed decisions in future(benefit of the aggressive approach)

    • @BenaBadBeatPoker
      @BenaBadBeatPoker  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      super helpful analysis! interesting to hear if the rec leads top 33% it becomes break even - very good to way to think about it. and ofc as you say, its grey so we'll never truly know. in fairness i didn't have any solid solid reads on this specific rec, so maybe it's just a torch!
