@@sillaboom7517 If everything went perfect for Scoltand, they'd have had control over the panama canal as there had been an attempt to settle that region by the scotts.
Here’s a video idea I’ve always wanted Take a blank map of the world and see how few nations (with historical borders) it would take to completely cover the world.
To cover the Americas and Australia: British Empire (1920), Spanish Empire (1810), Portuguese Empire (1900), Brazil (1822), United States, Suriname To cover the rest of Africa: French Empire (1920), Italian Empire (1940), Liberia, Spain (1912), Belgian Empire (interwar) To cover the rest of Europe: Denmark-Norway (1780), Swedish-Polish Union, Holy Roman Empire (1250), Ottoman Empire (1683), Russian Empire To cover the rest of Asia: Japanese Empire (1942) + occupied territory, Rashidun Caliphate, Mongol Empire (1279) So, that's 19 states. I counted Spain twice because they never controlled their Latin American colonies at their territorial height and the Western Sahara at the same time. I counted Brazil and Portugal separately because, Portugal never controlled their African colonies with their modern borders at the same time when they controlled Brazil. Also, I'm not counting Antarctica
Considering he wasn‘t the brightest he‘d drop the oil, thus oiling up Italy, because of this the british army slips and drowns in the mediteranian when launching the Invasion, leading to there surrender and the axis winning ww2
Thua creating a paradox where they never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity but if they miss that then they missed the oppurtunity to miss an opportunity. This means brazil never misses an opportunity to destroy the universe
What about a top 10 or top 20 empires of all time list now that it’s done? This was an awesome series! Thank you for the phenomenal effort you put into your videos

I feel that in the long run nigeria will take over russia and or france influence in africa Nigeria is closer and will have a bigger interest than russia to maintain control in that region
@mastrey Russia yes. I don't think Russia's presence there is a play they'd normally take but this is the incentive structure they're working with. France on the other hand I believe has more potential than Nigeria here. Nigeria is far from united and racked with internal issues while France is a wealthy and developed country that keeps policing its CURRENT colonial states. When possible history said France lost its empire, it didn't. France still controls its former African colonies economically.
@@mastrey if Nigeria ever becomes stable maybe but Nigeria can’t even control it own borders it simple the Russian over there are less corrupt and more well-trained then the native Africans not to mention after the war with all the veterans looking for work it will be good times for mercenaries Edit not to mention having a people there that are not native to the lands also is a plus since they will be do as told and don’t have the problem of your army siding with the people since there not the same people
I think it's kind of hard to say, the problem is they didn't really hold too much international influence, and where often considered as a second rank power. I think it's also worth mentioning that Austria Hungary at this point in time also only really counts as empire because of its previous status
@@JoboGamezzz the austrians were defending on 2000 meter high mountains, italy had only plains behind them, it's not really easy to attack, meanwhile france and england couldn't defeat germany on completely flat ground with every advantage
Indonesia is arguably a regional empire now, they have 1/3 the population of asean, and have the strongest military, and have little external competition except for Philippines and vietnam, while india cant be said as empire because many of their neighbouring country are greatly influenced by china, and globally the only great influence they have is only on youtube
If the measure of an empire is power and influence in a region, France should absolutely still be an empire throughout the Cold War. They were never really controlled by US policy and continued to exercise influence through the EC (which was mostly French guided until the EU) and in West Africa.
I'd like to see some of these videos. -What if the confederacy won the civil war. -What if Italy was militarily competent in ww2 -what if Italy sided with the allies in ww2 -what would an axis victory look like in a post ww2 world. (a sequel to your axis video.) -what if the dinosaurs never went extinct (this isn't really history but still cool) -what if the cold war went nuclear -what if Italy sided with the central powers -what if Charles Babbage had successfully completed his analytical engine
@@ultrabeargames314 As for point one. The confederacy could of won. I agree it was never likely. Especially since they had a massive disadvantage in industry. But still possible. For the axis video. He did that with his central powers video. I would like one with the axis. Finally, Charles Babbage was a British inventor and mathematician. In the early 19th century he invented something called an difference engine. It was a machine designed to calculate polynomial functions. And thus is considered the first ever computer. Unfortunately, he was unable to complete it and make it commercially viable due to financial constraints. Had he been able to finish his project. It would of spearheaded the field of computing ahead by a century.
@@ultrabeargames314 This is true. due to their decentralized government, lack of industry, and overreliance on an increasingly archaic institution. I doubt they'd survive for long. But it would still be an interesting timeline.
Because EU influences others and isn't influenced instead, yeah... EU has insane economy but politically and militarily is very weak. For the love of gods, it regularly pays "tribute" to Turkey, Egypt and North African countries so they would halt migration coming from their areas. And militarly EU is just unable to provide sufficent help to Ukraine despite EU economy dwarfs Russia yet EU cannot match Russian military production output. Though whole episode is really bloated as in modern days no one besides USA and China deserves empire status, with even Russia acting like Chinese underling.
The criteria for being an empire he uses The Ottomans still held a lot of power in their own region, while Italy was in a region surrounded by stronger nations. Italy was definitely more powerful than the Ottomans, but they were trapped between stronger empires in their region, and were not very successful elsewhere (First war in Ethiopia, being the sole European denied privileges in China, etc). They had the success over the Ottomans in 1911-1912.
@FTN_Ale not until after the Boxer Rebellion, previously to that, other European powers were granted numerous privileges in China with the notable exception of Italy, who was denied them by the Qing
Its a bit arbitrary - but basically, this video aims to discuss the lifetime of empire's. Once you become an empire, I tend to follow until some form of end. While the Ottomans arguably stop counting earlier, the video says I'm explaining the history of every Empire. Stopping Ottoman history around 1830 or something would be leaving out the conclusion. For other nations - which had a less definitive fall - I did go with the metric of "stopped being influential enough". It is purely a storytelling choice.
