Dope! I felt like Muggs was talking to me. I still use my old ASR to make beats and it's all I use. I haven't gotten into any new machines or computer programs at all, and I've had so many people tell me it's time to let go of the old and embrace the new technology. Shit, maybe it's time.
+BeatBay I agree with you man! I'm old school and that's the sound I like. Even if I tried to make today's hiphop I think it would still sound like shit cause it's not my style. Check out some of my work at soundcloud.com/antonio-damera-8904 I love getting feedback...
its all a crock of shit!the best beats EVER made were made with either an sp1200 or mpc3000 (coupled with an s950).if that hardware has never been beaten ,then that means ITS THE BEST!fuck the people pushing that bullshit ass "go digital/evolve" crap!modernizing does not automatically equal "evolving".hip hop is simple in principle.you find a sample, chop it up,add drums...thats it.an mpc (or asr10) is all you could ever possibly need.anything else is bullshit overkill that adds nothing to the formula (except for making everything sound lifeless, sterile and soulless ...like muggs shit sounds now)...computers are for edm producers .we dont need that shit
D j muggs You are a legend and always will be mad respect from canada. Keep on bringing The wicked Beats like you always have From The Start to now Keep Them coming Sir.
I dont think anyone can hate on his earlier stuff, but how hes talking about standing out and spending days/months on finding inspiration and then he's just churning out stuff that i could find millions off on beatport, he even says this himself.
For all the people saying all he comes up with is "brostep sound," I can respect that opinion, and in fact I prefer his older material. But the truth is this guy is a living legend, and in this video he is preaching a very important message: educate yourselves, you should never stop learning. Apply this not just in music, but every aspect of life.
Yeah but Muggs's sound back in the day was funky, gritty, musical and had his identity in it - his new school electronic dubstep sound sounds somewhat generic i.e. i wouldn't know if it was a Muggs production unless I was told so...
Muggs'early shit is untouchable, and his contributions to Hip-Hop production as a whole are rivaled by few [RZA comes to mind]. Dubstep ain't really my shit, but I definitely sympathize with a producer wanting to do something different after 20 straight years of some of the most badass raw hip-hop ever. Plus, in my opinion, certain forms of Dubstep fused with Hip-Hop have proven to be a great idea in the past. I personally dont know why Muggs went full on Dubstep, but hey. Fuck it lol
Greg Jeckel I agree and all for musicians exploring new realms and keeping fresh. It's just a shame that Muggs dubstep is somewhat generic and oridinary while his hip hop was/is unique and instantly identifiable
+Brent Strathdee-Pehi Agree 100%, I mean I love Muggs and I'm all for progress but I found it funny when he's saying don't try to fit in and make a sound your own, then in comes the generic dubstep wobble that got tiresome 6 years ago. Don't wanna be a hater but Muggs can do better than that shit.I'll be honest I've not listened to much of his new stuff but that track with Dizzee makes me cringe.
This guy is responsible for some of the best beats i've heard! Love Cypress Hill, especially their older stuff. Not too keen on his new sound tho, prefer the older hip hop.
Puppet Master was one of the illist songs in hiphop history. The first Soul Assassins albums was UNREAL. Still one of my favorite albums, not a song off that that wasn't classic
ha ha 7A3 most dudes don't know about them. I remember them from back in the day. My sister used to watch that video listen to my drummer go bang over and over lol. I forget the real name of the song though.

He is just totally TOTALLY AMAZING!!!

Damn, Dj Muggs has a respectably wonderful approach to his craft.
For all the people saying all he comes up with is "brostep sound," I can respect that opinion, and in fact I prefer his older material. His first few records were amazing. You knew it was a muggs track
As in his early Cypress records or his first Electronica/dubstep era records?
