I’m from Eastern Parkway btwn Albany and Troy which is walking distance from where he was born and raised…that Jamaican bakery was a regular stop for my fam and I back in the day. Best beef patties I’ve ever had! I believe they’re still in business to this day. We used to run up and down the block he walks down where that spot “Nizzy’s” is located and I used to get my hair cut a few doors up from there. Good times!
Moved here in 1980 from Trinidad and met this dude in 84. He made me a cassette tape ( my first true Hip Hop tape.... Still have it😊) . All I can I am from Brooklyn Crown heights President & Nostrand and I learned a lot and enjoyed every minute of going up here. Moved now but I still have friends And I do visit at least 6 times a year no joke. Brooklyn for Life.

My Dad had a cleaning store around the corner on Troy Ave. Later on I'd run there training for the NYC Marathon, up Kingston from Eastern Parkway to Wingate. I'd be wearing a yarmulke, shorts, a tank top and running shoes, and got bemused looks from the Hasidim.
