This is once in a lifetime experience many of us Sri Lankan’s wouldn’t dare to climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress twice.. the secret myth is not to say “I’m tired” when climbing up! This place is full of grace, actually having a guide is not a bad idea so that you would know the significance of each entrance, such as the Lion gate, the kings throne overseeing the pool where the king would sit and watch over his kingdom, it’s an amazing feel up there to wonder how it was even built back then. This 1984 action-adventure is the second instalment in the Indiana Jones franchise set in India. The ruins of the capital built by the parricidal King Kassapa I (477-95) lie on the steep slopes and at the summit of a granite peak standing some 180m high (the 'Lion's Rock', which dominates the jungle from all sides). A series of galleries and staircases emerging from the mouth of a gigantic lion constructed of bricks and plaster provide access to the site.

According to the ancient Sri Lankan chronicle the Culavamsa, this area was a large forest, then after storms and landslides it became a hill and was selected by King Kashyapa (477 - 495 AD) for his new capital. He built his palace on top of this rock and decorated its sides with colourful frescoes. On a small plateau about halfway up the side of this rock he built a gateway in the form of an enormous lion. The name of this place is derived from this structure - Sīnhāgiri, the Lion Rock (an etymology similar to Sinhapura, the Sanskrit name of Singapore, the Lion City).
The capital and the royal palace were abandoned after the king's death. It was used as a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century.[3] Sigiriya today is a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site. It is one of the best preserved examples of ancient urban planning.[4]

Ali for your information-Sigiriya is One of the eight World Heritage Sites of Sri Lanka, Sigiriya is renowned for its 5th century pre-Christian frescoes. It has also been declared by UNESCO as the 8th Wonder of the World.

Ali I feel your pain, I'm deathly afraid of heights too and I remember the first time I climbed Sigiriya, I was terrified, but it was well worth it once I got to the top. 😁 I've climbed it twice now and would love to go again. Nothing like conquering your fears. Proud to say that there are places like this in my beautiful island nation.
Sigiriya is one of the world wonders.
Its a hiden story that how the king took water from bottom to top without any technology.And many hidden technologies are included in this rock which the world explorers still can not find.❤

Sigiriya or Sinhagiri (Lion Rock Sinhala: සීගිරිය, pronounced see-gi-ri-yə) is an ancient rock fortress located in the northern Matale District near the town of Dambulla in the Central Province, Sri Lanka. It is a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of rock approximately 180 metres (590 ft) high.
According to the ancient Sri Lankan chronicle the Culavamsa, this area was a large forest, then after storms and landslides, it became a hill and was selected by King Kashyapa (477 - 495 AD) for his new capital. There is clear evidence that the many rock shelters and caves in the vicinity were occupied by Buddhist monks and ascetics from as early as the 3rd century BC. The earliest evidence of human habitation at Sigiriya is the Aligala rock shelter to the east of Sigiriya rock, indicating that the area was occupied nearly five thousand years ago during the Mesolithic Period.
Buddhist monastic settlements were established during the 3rd century BC in the western and northern slopes of the boulder-strewn hills surrounding the Sigiriya rock. Several rock shelters or caves were created during this period. These shelters were made under large boulders, with carved drip ledges around the cave mouths. Rock inscriptions are carved near the drip ledges on many of the shelters, recording the donation of the shelters to the Buddhist monastic order as residences. These were made in the period between the 3rd century BCE and the 1st century AD.
In 477 AD, Kashyapa I, the king’s son by a non-royal consort, seized the throne from King Dhatusena, following a coup assisted by Migara, the King’s nephew and army commander. The rightful heir, Moggallana, fearing for his life, fled to South India. Afraid of an attack by Moggallana, Kashyapa moved the capital and his residence from the traditional capital of Anuradhapura to the more secure Sigiriya. During King Kashyapa’s reign (477 to 495 AD), Sigiriya was developed into a complex city and fortress. Most of the elaborate constructions on the rock summit and around it, including defensive structures, palaces, and gardens, date from this period.
Some historians believe that the Sigiri Rock palace was originally constructed about 6000 years ago by the Great King Rawana. King Rawana is said to have very advanced science and technological knowledge. There are still functioning water fountains built many thousands of years ago. The HELA NATION (Siv Hela - now known as Sinhala) we very advanced technological nation. King Rawana has had a device like a lift that could crawl vertically up the rock. It is said that the Great King Rawana had a fleet of planes that were fuelled by the energy hidden in the carbon bonds in diamonds. It is worth asking how did these ancient Siv-Hela kings build such a fancy palace on the top of sich a high rock when the humans of the rest of the world civilizations were living under the trees wearing barks and leaves from the trees. Unfortunately, the rich history of Sri Lanka has been destroyed by the Portuguese, The Duch, and the English who invaded the land since the 1500s. Before the invasions of the Europeans, there had been many invasions by various tribes of Indians. However, Sri Lanka still stands with much pride.

Kashyapa was defeated in 495 CE by Moggallana, who moved the capital again to Anuradhapura. Sigiriya was then turned back into a Buddhist monastery, which lasted until the 13th or 14th century.
Understand also that, even though Sigiriya is maybe the most famous tourist attraction in Sri Lanka, and must have been a truly amazing place in the past, right now the ruins are only the two-brick-tall foundations of the palace walls; absolutely nothing remains standing. You are not allowed to take pictures of the frescoes, which are the most interesting part of the visit. The "mirror wall" is barely shiny in just two small spots, and apart from the ones near the beginning, the graffiti are just modern vandalization scratches on the wall.

Nice vedio again :) I would like to suggest few more areas you must visit. I am recommending Jaffna, TRincomalee (North Side of Sri Lanka), Nuwara Eliya (Central Province). Jaffna side is one of the facinating area which is surrounded by Sea. You will be able to see old Jaffna city, fort, Library, Point Pedro, Naagadeepa Temple and Mannar. Enjoy :D

The closest meaning to the word 'machan' in English is dude. So, you can use machan to call someone in your own age bracket and in your gender. You cannot use it on a person of a different gender unless they're extremely close to you. You have to keep in mind it's a slang word. Therefore you can't use it in any official matters. You never call a police officer machan.
