Thank you so much for a great video. I now have a handle on the fungus in my lawn. Last year I hired a professional lawn care service which guaranteed me a fungus free lawn. But as usual it was all lies and a waste of $800 thank you so much again👍🏻😎
Great timing. We have been getting hammered with lots of rain and humidity in the DC area. I went out of town for a couple days and when I got back I saw a few of the dreaded brown patches. I spray some Myclobutanil over the entire lawn and hit the brown patches with just a bit more. I can see the green returning, but will have to do another round in about a week or so. The rain and humidity just won't let up. Also, I found a few of those bleached spots in the lawn (before the rains) and not sure what it is/was but I watered the spot and it recovered, so I assume some animal has been wizzin in my yard. Glad to know that I can mix the Bifen with the Myclobutanil that way I can get 2 products down at the same time. Tip: You can prime the sprayer by spraying back into the sprayer prior to installing the top. I assume that's what you were doing when you were spraying into the container prior to spraying the lawn. Question. Why don't you need a surfactant? Don't you need the solution to better stick to the grass blades? I know it's not a weed killer application, but it still needs to have good contact, correct?
Thanks LCN - I'm dealing with some serious Brown Patch. I threw down Propiconazole 14.3 with RGS and then a week later I used granular Scotts DiseaseEx. It's a battle. I'm smarter now due to your video so next year I'll be more proactive and get the fungicide down earlier in June. Great video - can't wait to see the Project Lawn with Jake!!!!
Lawn care nut your lawn is very well manicured and looks very dominating! Thanks for all the professional vids/and information keep them coming please!
For the first and likely last time ever, my st aug is looking better than yours right now. I’m in central fl so we have the same conditions but my st aug is peak right now. No weeds, no insects and I just put my fungicide down last week. Good video, thanks.
Just moved to FL from WA. I'm loving my st augustine, but there's areas that are patchy-brown/dead. A lawn specialist says it's brown patch fungus. Thanks for your videos; gonna be doing this kind of application. By the way, FL is great, but I think you should experience some humidity-free weather some time haha. Being able to go outside without thick air and sweat is a great thing.
What's up Allen. I live in Sunrise FL. I got your book and follow the channel daily. Glad you moved back down here. I have St Augustine as well. Also have The EGO mower. Everything you said is spot on. I put down some fungicide a week ago. This weather is crazy. Thanks for the TIPS. I follow all three of you guys. I call you all THE LAWN GODS.
Love your videos, binged your videos yest. Ended up at hardware store and proceeded to overseed my poor ratty lawn. Been getting the rain good here too. Seeds are getting plenty of love.
Hey Allen thanks for the post I come back and review this video every year as a good refresher. Have you tried Lesco Eagle 0.39 fungicide or T-Storm 2G fungicide. I’m a huge SiteOne landscape supply nut love there products and lesco always seems to give me great results
I’ve been using Lesco Eagle 0.39 granular group 3 and heritage G group 11 sometimes year by year I change up the Eagle with Lesco T-Storm keeps the resistance down thanks for the post a lot of knowledge here always come back to this video early season up north
On my bentgrass putting green, I have a fungicide program that uses a product called Headway. From Syngenta same as Heritage. Should take a look at it. My current rotation is the Headway, Chlorothalonil (always) and either Subdue Maxx or Banol depending on a few things. Pythium can wipe you out overnight so I always treat for it. The fungicides are always changing but the Chlorothalonil and a Pythium treatment always remain.
Hello Allyn, Hopefully you'll read this. Been watching your videos since last year and am very grateful for them. I've been following your advice and have had myself a thick green gorgeous lawn that out shined my neighbors..... until a little over 2 weeks ago when I got home from the road (I drive Truck for a living and am home on the weekends) to find FUNGUS! I've now got ugly brown patches all over in my lawn! Oh the humility! I'm the laughing stock of the neighborhood now. :( I'll follow the advice you give in this video but I think I'm I'm part a cause of this predicament. I think I'm watering to much and at the wrong time of day and this is contributing to the problem. Do you have a suggested watering schedule of some type?
I had already applied Eagle granular a month ago. Now I plan on applying Heritage G to prevent and control my necrotic ring. The only problem is that the label on Heritage G does not contain spreader setting information for Scotts EdgeGuard rotary spreader. I guess I'll have to eye-ball it with 4 (had been using setting 5 to apply 4lbs/1000sq ft for Eagle).
Allyn, i just put a fungicide on my turf type tall fescue lawn, called Headway. It is a combination of heritage and propiconazole in granular form. It costs the same as heritage.
Hi Allyn. I live in the Boston area. Love your videos and channel and writing. I have a few small patches of wild onion that come up every spring in a certain part of my lawn, which otherwise looks good. What's the best method for controlling/eliminating those? They grow much faster than the rest of the lawn and look out of place in the spring. Any suggestions? I've tried hand digging but it doesn't eliminate the problem and disturbs the surrounding grass. Thanks for any advice.
I really enjoy watching your videos. Do you have a "calendar" or list of all of the steps that you take with your lawn from spring to fall? As a new homeowner and lawn care beginner that would be a great tool so I make sure to get in all of the steps I need! Thanks for all the great info!
Allyn would you recommend Scotts Disease Ex? I see it on your old (2013) fungus video, and its something I can pick up locally as opposed to ordering. Just wondering if thats something that I can use? We've had bad overcast last week or so in So Cal and my lawn is starting to get what I think is fungus (weird brown cast as well as spots similar to the ones you found in this video (dollar spot I think?)) ? If Scotts is a bad product what about something else Lowes or Home Depot or Orchard Hardware Supply would carry?
Hi Allyn, is there any big difference between Eagle 20EW Specialty Fungicide Cleary 3336F Fungicide - qt I am in a buying decision and I dont know when to go with for my brown and bare spots in my lawn. Thanks and god bless you brother!
Allyn thanks for the great videos. Got a question been working out of town and I have been letting TruGreen manage my lawn while I have been working out of town. I noticed I have brown patch and told them about it. They said it will go away once it cools back down. Anyway is it to late to apply heritage G to a tall fescue lawn if brown patch is already present. Thanks. Well I called heritage G they said I need to apply more of there product since I didn’t get the chance to attack it early best strategy is to put it down before you have a problem
Allyn, do you have any advice on centipede turning completely yellow (a bright yellow) in some areas? Almost as if it's dead at the root. Some online say "take all root rot" but I have also read about an iron deficiency being possible. If you get a chance to reply, thanks. Love the channel!
Just the tip..I know that some of the oaks have armillaria root rot and causes fungus in the yard. is there a way to defeat it before i start my big renovation for turf seed??? Big fan of your channel. Been watching everyday now since the new year.
I got crushed by red thread this weekend in NJ. I had it last year too so the spores must have been waiting in the turf for wet weather. The online guides say usually low nitrogen is the problem and to just do an application. Of course us lawn care nuts are have already put down plenty of nitrogen. So I put an application of PPZ down. Hope that knocks it out.
I recently found round spots in my grass where the grass has died. I have been thinking maybe people are letting their dogs pee on my nice lawn as they walk by but I am not so sure. I tried adding seed to the area to fill in the areas but have. It gotten much growth as of yet. I may have to look into this dollar spot you mentioned!
Allyn, maybe I missed something, but what are "Group 3" and "Group 11" fungicides and what other groups are there and what are they used to combat? Also, Allyn, nice little dance move at the end of the video. LOL
I my experience we never used Heritage (azoxystrobin) as a curative but as a preventative we used propiconazole as a curative among others, your st aug. looked like brown patch with the bands.
Looking forward to the grub worm video! I can already say I don't know the signs of grub worms. Also any tips on what to do if you do cut too short? Found out the hard way that my mower is an inch and a 1/2 off from it's settings. Oh and am I correct in saying don't mulch till your weeds are gone?
Ordered some Eagle 20 today. Noticed some spider-web looking areas in the yard this morning. We've had lots of rain this week with more on the way. Hot, humid, coastal Georgia.
How often should I Milo? I threw 5 bags down a month ago. We have just began to get more rain in the past few days. I can't tell if my lawn is losing green, or if the neighbours are getting green due to the rain. It's been a VERY dry May. My colour has dominated until now.
What do you think about using Headway every 28-30 days June-Sept? Will the brown patch become resistant to this one if used that many times this growing season?
Allyn, would you suggest mowing a little shorter than usual to help with drying out the lawn? I have tall fescue and usually mow it at 4" twice a week. Or will the fungicide take care of the brown spots even if the grass stays tall? Thanks
Hello! Can you please make a video on how to fix patches of grass that seem weak or fragile compared to the rest of the lawn. I live in Minnesota and have some large areas of grass that feel like they are thirsty but I water frequently and apply milo regularly.
Quick question. What type of herbicides can I use if I have post oak trees all throughout my yard. After all, trees are just giant broadleaf weeds. Thnx
Thanks for another video with amazing information. Got a question though. I thought I was fine in the fall so I didn't put anything out. We had a terribly wet winter and now I'm stuck with greening and huge patches of the brown fungus. I want to put my Milorganite out like I normally do this time of year. Will a fungicide affect the effectiveness of the Milorganite or should I put it out as scheduled?
I have a fescue lawn in my backyard and a perennial ryegrass sun and shade mix in my front yard (both cool weather grass types). Several years ago I had a pythium fungal infection in my backyard and a few brown patches in my front lawn. My front lawn is 680 square feet and my back lawn is 870 square feet. Both were treated and eventually went away. I mowed my lawn all winter, early spring, for years and never noticed anything, until now. The last time I saw the diseases was YEARS ago. They're both back after years of being absent. Too make matters worse, the temperatures are hotter due to the consecutive two year drought. Should I let my lawns go dormant for the summer (I've done this in the past) since the heat is high? It's spring now, but my area is suffering from a major heatwave. The seasonal transition went from winter, straight to summer conditions. No spring... Should I apply a fungicide in 80-90 plus degree weather? I recently purchased a granulated anti fungal disease curative and the pythium hasn't spread significantly, because of the heat. What are my options? Would it even be safe to apply a liquid spray fertilizer (Maricale Grow water soluble lawn food)? I'm more desperate than a hooker at a truck stop in Wyoming. Thanks
Hey LCN. I just found your channel. Great work. How ever I was putting fertilizer on my lawn and my spreader messed up. And was dumping out more in some areas, so now I got chemical burn in my front yard. Looks terrible. I water for the first 3 weeks. Now what should I do. I dont want my lawn looking rough with these burn spots. I need your help!
What is the best product for new grass that most likely has take all root rot or a diff fungus from too much water intake. Best product from a big box store and a local dealers?
Alan, Love the videos and I have ordered the Micro Pack through Green County using LCN. Anyway, should I be worried about fungus this late in the year? I live in Charlotte, NC where we have had a very hard summer.
Just Fyi: Scotts has a product called Disease Ex that has the same active ingredient, Azoxystrobin at about the same % as Heritage available at Home Depot for ~$20/10lb bag and the prills look almost identical. Not trying to take away from DoMyOwn, just letting people know. Seems to be working pretty well so far for me and it's easily available. I think I'm going to try to pick up some Eagle or Propiconazole to do some targeted spraying though.
wnracing I have a section of the yard that has a fungus on one month old sod. Is this Scott's ok to spread over the healthy lawn too or only on the affected area?
@SunsetRider Shouldn't be any issue with using a curative rate on the entire lawn if you haven't already put down any kind of fungicide, you'll still be well below the annual usage rate ie: pounds on the ground.
I got some bluegrass in Florida before I started watching your video.. I have been applying milo and mowing per you videos... should I continue with seeding the blue grass or should I begin to switch.
Do you recommend adding some surfactant to propiconazole? I use a tow-behind sprayer and sometimes feels like it is all going to space lol - cool season grass here, Massachusetts
Exactly what I needed! I gotta say though I feel a bit let down. I ordered a hat and coffee mug and was hoping for a lcn or fetlife sticker to slap on my Earthway.
this year i was going to tackle the lawn fungus issue for my lawn. I'm in NE Ohio outside of Cleveland. I started w/ Scotts lawn fungus granular product in early May. In early June I used the Bayer granular product. Following this video I bought the Eagle concentrate and used it to spot spray. the lawn (12ksf) looked fantastic until about 7 days ago. I used the Eagle to continue to spot spray but the each day this week more areas showed problems. I'm feeling like I should have applied one more granular treatment 2 weeks ago even tho we're out of the heavy rain/heat weather pattern. I applied that granular app this afternoon and am going to use the Eagle again later this week. Any advise Allen?
I have a few of those small dead spot, but they were caused by dryness. I wonder if your's are caused when someone walking their dog let's them relieve themself in your yard. Also, a lot of big box fungicides use a lightweight carrier, like sawdust or nut shells that has been sprayed with the active product.
Unfortunately I think it was to sunny when I sprayed and it stressed the lawn hard 😭 I did a bifin/prop mix in full sun. In the back yard I watered it in a bit more and didn’t see the stress I did in the front yard. Guess it’s time to throw er Dow and push out these yellow blades
Correct. This effect is especially strong on warm season grasses in hot weather. To the point of it causing stunting and damage of the warm season grasses.
Hello Hane, big fan of yours, you have helped me out a lot about my first lawn. Anyway, I live in the northern states, and I have a bad ant problem, I was wondering if you could do an updated video on the best way to kill ants in your lawn, I’ve tried just about all the over the counter stuff and I’m pretty sure it’s just making them stronger lol.
I recently added some St. Augustine plugs and noticed small white specks in the dirt in one section of the lawn. Also noticed a mushroom coming up in that general area. What is this called and how to treat? Ty!
I’ve got melting out and disease in my lawns here in Utah. Will spraying a fungicide down help get rid of it or no? I’ve watched so many controversial videos on lawn disease and fungus and people all say different things. I know weather has a lot to do with it but I’ve watched some videos that say if you have it just let your lawn dry out and then mow it off to get rid of the disease and other videos saying to use a fungicide to get rid of it. My problem with letting it dry out is is the grass won’t grow hardly at all and so I won’t be able to cut the fungus off the blades of grass. I feel like I kinda need to keep water on my lawn. I’m not sure what to do.
I got me one of the yt25e’s for my bio stim pack. Unfortunately it was doa. I heard something small rattling around in the bottom, and when it flipped her on I got nothing. Looked at the battery contacts on the sprayer and one was mia. Figuring that might’ve been the rattling I heard I took her apart and had to screw the contact in. Aside from that I really enjoy it.
Can this be applied along with the Hi Yield? I purchased the Hi Yield and just ordered both fungicides. What order should I apply my apps? I am experiencing a sprout of weeds and brown spots in my beautiful green nitrogen heavy lawn and need to apply all 3 products asap. The heavy rainfall in Charlotte these past 2 weeks has been brutal on my lawn. Thanks!
My good man Lawn Guy....if it put down Eagle20EW...after i rsked out the brown spots...can I lay seed and a lil soil to germinate the new seed with the Eagle 20ew down...or the Heritage granular. I have a spot of my sump that is taking a fungicide beating...anxious to grow see but dont know if Eagle20ew will interfere with seed germination?
Hi there I’ve been following your channel for few weeks and I appreciate all your advice in this matter; following this particular topic of fungus I have a question: I just applied this week a turf builder from Scotts and I’m wondering how long I have to wait to apply the eagle fungicide from Scott’s and also when should spread some grass seeds on my lawn ?(I live in Wynnewood, PA. a transitional area I believe). Thank you again.
Can I put down both dimension, Milo and the fungicide within days of each other? I was going to apply my dimension Wednesday. Come back Saturday with Milo. With this new info. Can i apply the fungicide also? I did blanket spray with Ortho Weed be gone 2 weeks ago.
Allyn I just put my 2nd app of milo 7-16-18 and bit of dolomite to up my ph which is tad low (not bad). Can I add granular Headway G granular on my lawn. There's some browning from heat, water, humidity. And at what rate per 1k sq ft? Thanks
Hello Allyn, I am a cool season zone. Do you recommend to do group 3 and group 11 right know? Is summer already but I have some brown spots and dollar spots too. I noticed you did this video in spring or should I wait until fall? also, how far apart (in days) I should do this fungicide application and use my milo? I am asking this because I want to put my milo in the 4th of July but I don't know if is too much or I have to wait. Thank you for the tips.
Im gonna try eagle on my hawthorn that has just exploded with rust. Im hoping i can cure the disease with it, but maybe you have another product to recommend?
Could a person just add the Eagle 20 EW once a month when applying the Micronutrients just to keep on top of the fungicide issues? Or every other month?
just re-watched video. He answered my questions. I should be fine with the liquid. I'll add some RGS with it and apply Milo. I'll add dimension a few days later
What do you think about bagging clipping in these conditions? Im also doing preventative fungicide apps but have had brown patch issues in the past. Tall Fescue, in central NC.
Great info in this one (as always) and still on cloud 9 from how our video turned out. An honor to work with you on a little project!

Thoughts on these fungicides vs Scott's products from big box at 1/2 the price?
Ryan Knorr Lawn Care z
Ryan Knorr Lawn Care Can you get lawn rust in the lawn when it’s middle June in southern Indiana?
Thank you Allyn!!!! I wrote to you on Facebook about this, and was so pumped to see a video about fungicide this weekend. Your content rocks!
Great video. Love the way you take caring for your lawn seriously but not yourself too much.

I get F-STOP fungicide at mt local lawn shop due to I get fungus every year on my St Aug. it works great its a granular type
I like this video. Thanks Allyn for explaining the fungicide.

Enjoyed the Ole Skool NW Indy intro theme.
I was literally just looking for your old video. My grass got really long with all the rain we’ve had. Seems like I need to get this done.
Hey Allen thanks for the post I come back and review this video every year as a good refresher. Have you tried Lesco Eagle 0.39 fungicide or T-Storm 2G fungicide. I’m a huge SiteOne landscape supply nut love there products and lesco always seems to give me great results

Great content! We were really battling fungus here in New Jersey in the last few weeks. Thanks for the info!

Hi Allyn, is there any big difference between
Eagle 20EW Specialty Fungicide
Cleary 3336F Fungicide - qt

Thoughts on using marking blue when spraying? Not saying forever but maybe to get started until you get the feel of your nozzle. Giggity.
Could you please make a video on Dead Fairy rings in cool season lawn?

I had it last summer, and after applying Milo it went away, so must have been lacking Nitrogen
Prtygrl44 I am thinking it has to be urine spots because the grass was dead all the way to the root in a circle.
If its darker green around the dead circle than the rest of your yard its definatly urine
Keep the great vids Allen. Dominating in Nicholasville KY!!
Yes! It's been raining for days down here...up here... in Clearwater. I can see I need to spray. Will liquid copper work?
Allyn, maybe I missed something, but what are "Group 3" and "Group 11" fungicides and what other groups are there and what are they used to combat?
Also, Allyn, nice little dance move at the end of the video. LOL

What is the shelf life of opened fungicide of the propasole and axzopeobin?
What do you put down on shrubs. Plants. Flowers on landscape ?
Will it hurt me putting either of these down before a 2 days of rain? Or should I wait untill rain has passed?
What do you think about using Headway every 28-30 days June-Sept? Will the brown patch become resistant to this one if used that many times this growing season?
Allyn, would you suggest mowing a little shorter than usual to help with drying out the lawn? I have tall fescue and usually mow it at 4" twice a week. Or will the fungicide take care of the brown spots even if the grass stays tall? Thanks
Subscribed just for the Neck Jowls. 👍
Can you put a fungicide down after fertilizing with nitrogen?
Hello! Can you please make a video on how to fix patches of grass that seem weak or fragile compared to the rest of the lawn. I live in Minnesota and have some large areas of grass that feel like they are thirsty but I water frequently and apply milo regularly.
Is it best to alternate different modes of action or to combine them? Is it necessary to water in the liquid fungicide?
When would you put down a fungicide, I live in northwest Indiana, thank you!
Liked based on the comment about the lawn feeling the love. 🤣🤣
I have a fescue lawn in my backyard and a perennial ryegrass sun and shade mix in my front yard
(both cool weather grass types). Several years ago I had a pythium fungal infection in my backyard and a few brown patches in my front lawn. My front lawn is 680 square feet and my back lawn is
870 square feet.
Thanks
Great tips dude!!
I thought I remembered that you once said if you have zoysia grass and have dollar spot, ALWAYS use propiconazole. Is that true?
What is the best product for new grass that most likely has take all root rot or a diff fungus from too much water intake. Best product from a big box store and a local dealers?
Alan,
Love the videos and I have ordered the Micro Pack through Green County using LCN.
Tall st aug issues especially in Hawaii great to have the info. Thanks bud 🤙🏽
Big difference on the electric mower on lower handle setting. More planted less jumpy as they are super light weight. Always good stuff
I'm no expert, but as I understand it most fungicides also have the nice side affect of acting as plant growth regulators. So bonus points there.
Ty!
What if you don’t know the type of disease your treating as to how much prop to use?
Can you use turf marker with the Eagle?
If you are dispersing the heritage fungicide with the Scott's spreader, what number would you put it on?
Can you put down a fungicide if youve just thrown down fertilizer.
just re-watched video. He answered my questions. I should be fine with the liquid. I'll add some RGS with it and apply Milo. I'll add dimension a few days later
In one of ur older videos u mentioned using headway in the description would u recommend the heritage over that for prevention of brown patch
Do you think this could be applied to garden plants too?
What do you think about bagging clipping in these conditions? Im also doing preventative fungicide apps but have had brown patch issues in the past. Tall Fescue, in central NC.
