Hi Mel, just wanted to confirm the current regulations for LPG in camper vans. If the hob is permanently fitted it can only be fitted with rigid copper pipe, no orange flex is allowed. You can only use the orange gas pipe if it's a mobile cooker that you get out of a cupboard to use. Hope you don't mind me dropping that comment here, really glad your ring is clean too :D PMSL
Thank you! Spent a day messaging someone at a leisure company yesterday and got nowhere. My bottle is directly below the cooker. I see no point in adding copper pipe.....I have however been wrong before! Many many many times in fact ha ha ha much appreciated good luck!!
Hi Mel, You did a great job on your sink Install and video. After watching I knew I had installed my sink gasket upside down didn't I. It is fixed now, thanks to you.
Thank you. Very well done. I am in the US and just received my sink with no instructions. This gives me confidence. Still not sure how the clips work that hold it to the countertop. But you explained it verbally, so I will now go and fiddle around with it.
Hello Mel, I’m in planning stages and trying to make best use of every inch of van before begin installing anything. Knew I wanted a sink & stove in Van but wasn’t sure where to place and never considered behind the seats. Not only did I learn how to do I learned where to set up in my Van. Thank you so much for taking the time and demonstrating how to do. Also love the accent. God Bless You.
I used to have a dirty ring but I realised my error I gave it a good wipe then reinserted it correctly . Thank for great advice and really glad you mentioned ptfe tape. Great stuff 👍👍👍👍
Watching your video gave me the confidence to install my sink (same one you installed)! Thank you! your cheery presentation, plus your advice on how to make the template, was just the thing.
Just had qualified gas man come to do mine. I said in the book it says don't fit orange hose straight on silver pipe, must use copper fittings etc. I said why is that? He said no idea, why make more joints that can leak. He put straight into pipe with jubilee clio, tested for leaks, job done.
Thank you that’s really appreciated it’s always nice to hear from people that found something that’s useful makes all the hard work worthwhile good luck with your build 👍😊👍
Really good video! Only video I found that tackles in depth the gas connection, which for me has been a worry. Now I feel confident to go and buy and fit one of these units 👍
Sound advice there Mel had my gas piping fitted by a pro and he fitted a regulator before the gas locker so there is less trouble when changing the 907 type bottle , the build is looking great now :)
Thanks for that Mel. I changed my sink washed around this morning, Now it looks proper. I am sure I have a gas leak on my system and will redo the attachments today with that gas sealant you mentioned. Now off to B and Q
@@BigVanSmallWorld hi, I hope to soon, currently hunting for a decent size van to carry out my own conversation on! I'm pretty handy with woodworking tools but don't know much about electrics or gas so your videos with the technical details is brill.
Mel, yes the paste but theres a ptfe tape for gas as well....its yellow (gas & water) in color if am not wrong ....i dont know if its available there but in Canada, its available.....the pink tape is for petroleum based fluids like antifreeze or oil as well as water.... The white tape is for water only 😀
Hi nice to know someone in Canada is watching my channel that’s awesome thank you yes we have the yellow stuff here I just don’t like it thanks again for coming buy really appreciate your positive feedback 👍🤓
@@BigVanSmallWorld oh no problem.....i enjoy any van/vehicle mods ....even if the particular vehicle models are not anvailable here, the ideas can be incorporated. (FYI, Vans available here that are similar to EU : the Ford transit, transit connect, MB Sprinters, and Viano/Vito(Metris in Canada), Nissan NV200 & NV3500 , As well as the Fiat Ducato(RAM Promaster in Canada) are available here) 😀. Plus, vids like yours relaxes me for some reason 🤣🇨🇦
Hi Mel, good interesting video, some good tips for fitting the sink. One thing though; there is PTFE tape for gas & oil, its thicker than the water stuff. I have used it for my heating oil tank pipe fittings with no problems. What you think?, sounds like you for sure wouldn't use it!! Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Hiya fella this video was great and very useful and it's always shocking how many people still try to use tape on gas when it's for water lol... Enjoyed the vid buddy keep em coming fella and have a good weekend
Hi Mel, two rings this time 😃. Is it worth standing the piece of cladding and the pencil vertical and then taping them together and simply follow your marked line to give you the template cut line (hope that made sense). Also the waste connection on the underside of the sink, is it worth running a thin bead of silicone around it as belt n braces to seal it against the sink. Keep the videos coming 😃
Thanks for this. How many screws did you use to screw it down ? There seem to be 5 holes but very hard to see how to use them without inserting /gluing in at least 3 extra bits of wood ( on top of the two at the corners where I didn't properly follow your instructions ) . Thanks for any comments . Hugh
Mel, this has been a super useful video for me and has taken a lot of stress out of my own renovation. QUESTION: It looks like you're using 1/4" copper pipe for the gas- is that correct? Some folks are saying to use 3/8" for our install, but the propane is less than a meter away. Appreciate the feedback!
Dylan Warren the standard for gas is 8mm don’t know what that is in imperial lol but all the gas fittings I used are 8mm hope this helps thanks for watching and I’m pleased it helped you 👍🤓👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld Wow thanks for the speedy response. Yes, 1/4" and 8mm are the same. Now I can shop for the right parts and get on with my build already. Thanks again Mel!!
Fitting gas isn't a DIY job, remember - if your van goes up it might not just be you that is badly burned / dead next doors child in their camper could be burned badly too. There's so much mis information, even you are giving it Mel. Any permanently fixed hob or oven MUST be hard piped, no orange flexi hose allowed. That stuff is really only for camping burners that you carry around or gas bbq's etc. There is a reason for that. Also you can use PTFE type tape on gas but it is different to water PTFE, has to be wrapped differently in a specified way to regulations and is much thicker. best leave all gas to a competent person, there is more to lose than just a leaky water joint if it goes wrong. That aside, thanks for the great videos Mel, keep them coming.
I really don’t know I have never fitted 240 hook up I did once make an extension cabal that plunged into the camping socket so my now ex could use a hair dryer 😂👍🤓
I need to replace the drain pipe on my sink and was hoping you would show how to connect it to the bottom of the plug hole, but you stopped just before that step 😢
Thanks for the tip on the plug hole washer. So glad I found this before I fitted the sink in permanently !

There’s different ways of doing this but for a basic setup yes use 8 mm barbed nipple between the copper pipe and orange pipe
