      Just think about the grim, bleak world of OG LoZ. So few people, no towns, just people hiding in caves. I know SOME of that is just hardware limitations, but canonically that world would be even more ravaged than BoTW. Probably similar to the word of BoTW 1 year after the calamity

    • @TheRyujinLP
      @TheRyujinLP ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We kinda already got that. Just not literally one for one remakes. OoT of time was heavily inspired by Link's Adventure, it's combat system was them trying to bring the original games combat into 3D. This is also why the sages were named after towns in it. Breath of the Wild pretty much is a Zelda 1 reboot.

    Hey Octo, just a note on Dodongos. You can detonate a bomb just in front of them, and if close enough, they get stunned and can be defeated with the sword for a guaranteed bomb drop. This also saves 3 bombs from force-feeding them the normal way.
    This alternative method is told by the old man in Level-2, who says "Dodongo dislikes smoke," hinting that if they inhale smoke they can be defeated.

    Beat this one for the first time tonight! On a big Zelda kick right now, I loved the N64 entries when I was a kid so after replaying OOT recently I've decided to play them all in order. This video series is exactly what I need. Definitely earned a sub!
    Great video and I love how you praised the game design, I'd heard for years about a guide was "necessary" to beat it but I'm adamant about not using walkthroughs. I downloaded the original manual and scanned it, but I think the game does a great job of easing you into it and was pleasantly surprised by how assessable it was. The overworld opens up more and more after you get stuff like the candle and bombs, and I love how the old man and Impa give you just enough of a nudge to help you find dungeons without flat out telling you what needs to be done. Also appreciate how the secrets are also intuitively placed on the overworld . The moment I bought a candle I found dungeon 8 because I recognized that bush was burnable! Well designed and not the "You need a guide game." I'd been led to believe.
    Great game, great review. Now to struggle with Zelda II for a month lol.

    Amazing video! Two comments: 1) the manual that the game originally came with had a lot of tips and locations of some things on part of the map. 2) I think it’s a stretch to say that level 6 indicates to the player that they need the magic shield. All it does it indicate that the new enemy you face is hard. There’s nothing to really indicate that there’s a specific shield in the game that can help.

    • @danielec3269
      @danielec3269 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sure? At that point of the game the player has discovered in the overworld the magic shield for sell. He probably is asking himself what is the difference with the normal shield, bat at that point of the game he could survive just with the normal one. In the first 5 dungeons and in the overworld (he doesn't need to go to the death mountain) there are only fire balls. But with a lots of wizzrobes the dangeon became so hard that the players think "for sure the shield can protect me from this magis waves, it would be a good idea to go out and buy it".
      You can say, there is no a clear message "buy a shield" or similar, but... this is the great of the game, it doesn't say explicit to the player what to do, he forces him to understand what he needs, to realize himself what to do.
      And, after he has buyed the magic shield and discovered that the like like can eat it, he realizes the the combination of the two enemy (wizzrobe and like like) isn't casual...

    Links Adventure isn’t a bad game I really like that one. I will admit I got it a little after release (getting Mario 2 and Links adventure was a huge pain because of a chip shortage back then. My mom basically befriended everyone at Toys R Us and they let her know when a truck was coming with a few copies of each bless her soul) so there probably is some nostalgia with my opinion on it.
    I’m so glad you touched on video game history because i pretty much comment on all these NES LoZ videos how incredible it was to go from Atari, collecovision and intellevision to the original Zelda. Just incredible and a great thing to experience as a seven year old it had my imagination running wild and made me a fan of gaming for life. My next door neighbor and neighbor 3 houses down both had it and when we weren’t all playing we were outside running around discussing all the things we found and trading secrets. Great video and review covering a great game.

    0:40 - Blew my mind! I don't consider myself a "fan," but I did own it for the original NES back when it was a new release. Also played 2, Link to the Past, and now the 2 Switch games. I never played the others because I had transitioned from a child to a young adult and didn't have disposable income. I couldn't afford to keep buying new consoles. Then by time emulation was an option, I was on to more sophisticated games. Kind of wish I had played them since I've since learned that a lot of the Switch games come from some of the earlier games.

    @everyany5000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    3:55 Yes it does. You have to collect items to upgrade armor. Also, the sailcloth mechanic in Skyward Sword actually is a lot like the one in Breath of The Wild it's just presented a bit differently. In Skyward Sword, falling can be used to travel brief distances and maneuver onto platforms with the sailcloth there to break your fall. the same is true of the paraglider in Breath of The Wild. The main change they made was making the paraglider handle the whole process instead of just as a means to break your fall. It was also slightly changed to incentivize forward travel rather than for tighter maneuvering within a round area as per Skyward Sword, but overall it's a very similar mechanic and it's very easy to see how the sailcloth could've translated to Breath of The Wild's paraglider. Look no further than the Game Awards footage back in 2014 when the paraglider was still the sailcloth if you need any more proof.

    • @octorokreviews
      @octorokreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Regarding your first point, yes that's correct. I forgot about that mechanic's existence in BOTW, and only remembered it after this video's publication. So yeah, I was wrong about that one. As for the sailcloth comment, though, I must protest. The sailcloth is a completely different item than the Paraglider, with almost no similarity whatsoever. The Sailcloth breaks your fall - that's it. The skydiving aspect also only allows you to control your descent in a very limited fashion - neither of these mechanics are useful for traversal, only for the cannon minigame. Other than that, it's purely a visual flare with no real effect on gameplay.
      The Paraglider, on the other hand, completely alters the way you see the world of BOTW and how you traverse in that world. It' purpose is not to break your fall - it's to give the player near complete freedom in how he gets from point A to point B. There's practically no lineage to speak of here in terms of game design, and the Sailcloth being used as a placeholder art asset in 2014 is not proof of that (the game was far from complete at that point and, as the Nintendo Space World 2000 fiasco is more than proof of, old art assets are used in tech demos all the time, and are not indicative of the next game's design).
      As someone who has played every game in the series, it was pretty clear to me while playing Wind Waker that the Korok Leaf was likely the true origin of the Paraglider concept. Just like in BOTW, the Korok Leaf changes the way the player sees the level designs of Wind Waker from that point onwards, and operates nearly the same way (forward movement, a stamina gauge determining how long you can use it, wind effecting its upward movement, etc.). The Korok Leaf is practically the same device, just in a game with less opportunities to use it - to me, it seems pretty clear that, when looking back at previous games for inspiration, someone at Nintendo saw the Korok Leaf and had the idea to design the whole game's map around using it, which was the greatest creative decision made in BOTW, in my opinion.

    • @everyany5000
      @everyany5000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@octorokreviews I do agree with you in the sense that they're using selective evidence to try to convince the Breath of The Wild fans to pick up Skyward Sword and that the $60 price tag is a ripoff, but to ignore the parallels doesn't do any good either. My argument is not that the sailcloth was the only inspiration for the paraglider merely that the two mechanics are very similar and that there's a clear throughline to be had between Breath of The Wild and Skyward Sword. I cite the game awards example because the sailcloth shows that they made a connection between the two items and probably saw that the potential for the sailcloth could be greater. Also, Nintendo Space World, if I remember correctly, showcased a tech demo not an early build of Wind Waker itself, unlike the Game Awards showcase which was showing off an early version of Breath of The Wild. I do definitely agree that the korok leaf could easily have a lot to do with the inevitable creation of the paraglider, as well as cuccos, which could be argued is where the concept as a whole actually originates (as far back as Link to The Past even), but I don't think that discounts the game mechanics they explored in Skyward Sword that led to them creating the paraglider. I imagine being given the chance to work more with verticality in Skyward Sword gave them the experience they needed to create a more well-realized product in Breath of The Wild. Basically, what I'm saying is that when they say that the sailcloth was an inspiration for the paraglider they're not lying. I can't speak for the dev staff but I think the thought process generally went like: Cuccos -> Majora's Mask Deku Flowers -> Wind Waker's Korok Leaf and the Deku flowers in that game -> the Lake Hylia Cucco minigame in Twilight Princess -> Skyward Sword's full vertical travel + falling + sailcloth = paraglider.

    • @octorokreviews
      @octorokreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@everyany5000 I don't entirely agree with the lineage of game mechanics you listed out, since I think Cucco flying is mostly disconnected gameplay wise from the Deku Flowers and Korok Leaf, but I will concede that the Sailcloth likely isn't entirely unconnected to the Paraglider. But to give it credit as if it is at all a similar mechanic was the issue I had; the Korok Leaf bears similarities that I would liken to the Paraglider gameplay wise, but not the sailcloth. The similarities, art wise, are there, but I do think it's misleading to equate them the way Aonuma did. Still, your points are valid and well put, and I concede that I was definitely wrong about the armor upgrade thing ( I realized that a couple months ago and have been waiting for the inevitable comment pointing it out ever since LOL), so I think I'll concede you the victory in this debate. Plus, I have editing to do if I'm ever going to get this Link to the Past review out LMAO.

    Let's be real, the sailcloth is the second iteration of the wind waker leaf. Stamina was added, and tbf the do 4 things that kind of the same but different is kind of brought back to botw. But that is more of a problem with non linearity and all dungeouns being the first dungeon. We still aren't quite there, but ever more closer to the format being locked in.

    second quest is a troll fest but i do argue it is the best hard mode in zelda, which i consider to be a low bar. oot mq is a close second and hero mode is just artificial difficulty with little to no changes in other mechanics most of the time.
    despite messy door logic, i do think zelda 1 is one of the best entries in the series. yes it is clunky and has some archaic design choices (second quest having some of the worst dungeons in the series if you ask me), but in this game progression actually is handled pretty well. it is flexible and and actually has meaningful choices in how you can tackle the dungeons and reach end game. for example, you never need to buy the blue candle in either quest because level 7 has the red candle and you can get the magic rod with the book of magic in the second quest with a well timed shot against a moblin to open level 7 (which is also the only dungeon you can enter early and get nothing relevant in return. not even a small key like you can in level 4). small keys can be purchased which also affects the progression of some of the dungeons or you can go to level 8 after getting the bow and arrows and buying the candle to get the magic key. you can also reach ganon without the sword while getting the magic rod in level 6. despite some location and secret shortcomings in the first quest, the second quest does help make up for it. in fact, you can also go to level 6 and not complete it just to get the ladder to unlock level 8.
    also level 7 may be messy but its difficulty lies in the navigation and resources. it is the second largest dungeon in the first quest as well but also there is a pattern to its design. levels 4-6 have two bosses and 7 and 8 have 3 which are of the same sprite classes. levels 7-9 are like final exams of each enemy category. level 7 for the weak tiered enemies, 8 for mid and 9 for advanced. while i do think alttp is the better entry, it still had some missteps such as how it handled that flexible progression with the sword upgrades and also led to many trappings as the series continued until albw and botw pulled a 180, but not necessarily in the best executed manner if you ask me. i get that puzzle solving became more relevant, but it is also how the level design is structured where later entries can be less dependent on item based puzzles or have those items not found in dungeons.

I don't know why you felt the need to shit on some other, unrelated games like Xenoblade 2 and Fire Emblem. Are they waifu bait? I can't deny that cute girls are part of the appeal for sure but they have a lot more to offer than this, like an intruiging story, interesting characters and setting. I just think you can point out how great Zelda 1 and all the others are without making fun of and playing down other games, there is just no need and feels insecure. Other than that I thought it was a good effort.

    Nearly 40 years? Nintendo was making pong consoles back in the 70's. That's more like 50 years that they've been making video games, and they've been making games in general for much longer than that. Not sure if that was an honest slip up or a failure to do research. Nintendo's been around for a long time.

    An inaccurate oversimplification of videogame development before Zelda made me switch this video off. No mention of computer games, adventures or RPGs whatsoever. Zelda was not created in a vacuum. Jeremy Parish’s NES Works video on this game is worth a watch.

    • @octorokreviews
      @octorokreviews  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Why would I talk about the shitty computer RPGs from the 80’s in a video about Zelda? Especially when my focus was on the history of console gaming exclusively? The fact of the matter is that those old CRPGs were quite awful, and never managed to create the sense of continuity and adventure that Zelda did. That’s why I neglected to mention them - if I spent the whole video going over the history of gaming, it’d be dozens of hours in length.
      Besides, by your same logic, I could accuse you of failing to mention the table-top RPGs that inspired CRPGs, like Dungeons and Dragons. Does that make what you said inaccurate as well? Of course not. We have to start our histories somewhere, because if we really wanted to start at the beginning of things, we’d need to go all the way back to the dawn of man itself, because all works of art are derivative of prior works of art. It doesn’t make my video inaccurate to not mention literally every single piece of art that inspired it.

    • @saysalla
      @saysalla 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If the 80s computer RPGs were so shitty and irrelevant why was the console called the Family Computer System? You'd think Nintendo would want to distance themselves from awful garbage like that instead of catering to losers like Hideo Kojima and Hideki Kamiya who played stupid computer games because that's what was popular in Japan in the early 80s and influenced what came later. Maybe those people would have become relevant in the gaming industry if they imported Adventure on Atari 2600 from America instead like Miyamoto obviously did.

    "Who designs this shit?" The original Zelda game is incredibly simple. It's a bit harder to get across more complex mechanics with something like, "Kill guys get key". I get the argument, but I find it to be invalid in the context you presented.

    • @octorokreviews
      @octorokreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So funny thing, it’s been so long since I made this video that I forgot when I said that line, so I thought “oh, he’s talking about Persona 5’s tutorial; ok, there’s some nuance there.” Then I went back and saw that I was showing Final Fantasy 8 when I said that and… ha ha, yeah, that’s gonna be a hard no for me. That game bombards the player with an hours worth of tutorial information all at the very beginning of the game, and then DOES NOT STOP throughout the entire game. It was genuinely one of the worst RPGs I ever played, and it’s combat was really simple and dumb anyway; you just spam summons until you win, it takes forever and isn’t fun. Compare that to Final Fantasy 7, a game which is also more complex than Zelda, and you can immediately see the difference. I’ll make a video on that game one day (I actually have a script in the works on it), but it’s WAY better at conveying it’s systems than FF8 ever could be.
      As a final note, just because a game is more complex doesn’t mean it’s exempt from having to be designed well. Yes, Zelda is comparatively simple, but when it was first made, it was potentially one of the longest video games ever made; was it exempt then from proper design? Of course not, and neither are RPGs from the 90’s; I’ve played many RPGs in my day and not many are great at naturally conveying how to play them without loads of pop ups, but they do exist and they’re all WAY better than FF8. So in conclusion, I do not believe my arguments about this game’s design are “invalid” simply because it’s old and comparatively simple.

  • @AdamTheGameBoy
    @AdamTheGameBoy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Level 7 may have been trying to prepare you for more complicated, obtuse dungeons more than for tougher combat considering it requires you come in prepared with bait or return after getting bait. It also doesn't have enough keys, so you have to bring spares or find your own way around locked doors and even the only path forward includes many bombable doors. They also don't want to have the difficulty increase steadily either; from a psychological standpoint you want the difficulty to be a series of spikes that trend up. Just having the difficulty steadily rise without falling will wear players out. There are a lot of reasons level 7 may be the way it is.
    Also the original Fire Emblem is held back by a lot more... the first thing I thought was "Damn, this music is grating af." The next thing is "wait, it's not giving me any kind of forecast when I try to attack an enemy... ok, can I even look at my stats and their stats?" You actually can, it's just a really slow, unintuitive process that no other game makes you go through. I don't know how the game got sequels; even Gaiden already was more forthcoming with letting you look at stats despite not having a forecast. The first game is stingy with the information you need to make smart decisions, tries to disrupt your thinking with audio torture and punishes those sub-optimal decisions with permadeath. Just kick me in the nuts and be done.

      @KlingonCaptain 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@octorokreviews I guess that I just approach video games from an entirely different perspective than you do. I discovered Zelda II in a round about way later in life (and by later in life I mean my mid/late twenties) because of the show "Adventure Time." The last Zelda game I had played was the first game back in the late 80s when I was a kid. I have since played most of the other Zelda games. So, Adventure Time comes along and it's a hit in my house, my whole family loved it including my cousins. So when the first Adventure Time game came out on both the DS and 3DS I picked up a copy. It was a simple game but I loved the wit and charm. I even enjoyed that it combined an overworld with side scrolling game play. It was clearly an homage to classic NES games. So I looked it up online to discover that the game designers said that they intended it to be a modernized Zelda II clone in the spirit of the classic NES era when game clones were common as part of the meta humor of the Adventure Time game. So I found a copy of Zelda II and played it. When I did I found the simple wit and humor equally charming. Admittedly if you don't remember the 80s some of it might be lost on the player. It's the same reason I love the original Resident Evil and Silent Hill games so much, yes even the Skyward Sword and the Renegade Kid game Moon (later renamed Moon Chronicles for its 3DS re-release). Those games had so much wit and humor built right into the game design. I play games for two reasons really exploration/adventure (any Silent Hill, any Metroid, Dead Space, Halo to some degree, Minecraft, Dwarf Fortress), and humor/charm (most Zelda games, a surprising number of sports games, Patapon, Professor Layton, Phoenix Wright, most Final Fantasy games). You get the point.

    I SO wanted to leave you a dislike due to your blasphemy against Majora’s Mask in multiple sections of this video as well as the blink and you miss it potshot at Xenogears… BUUUT… since this IS a video about Zelda 1 and you did a fantastic job covering that which in the end was the entire point of this video I am reserving my contempt and giving you a thumbs up / like for this video and reserving my ire for three years from now when you finally complete your Majora’s Mask video, lol.
    Also, I did really like your Ocarina of Time video and glad you reduced the amount of blink and you miss it on screen text boxes compared to this one. As someone with OCD who has to pause and rewind a video every time that stuff comes onscreen otherwise I will not consider myself to have watched the complete video, that s**t is absolute hell for me. It’s what is making watching Orion C’s ‘Breath of the Wild - An Analysis’ series absolute hell for me as, although I tend to really like and agree with almost everything he has to say about that game, the fact he has to add some sort of parenthetical text on screen text every 10 seconds makes videos that should only last one hour take three for me with all the pausing, rewinding, restarting and pausing (heaven forbid I hit pause too slowly and the text is off the screen and I’m forced to rewind a second time). I had to do this a few times this video but hardly at all in your Ocarina of Time video and nothing close to Orion C’s videos so thank goodness for that. Not that I’m at all bashing Orion C’s videos. If you like the first few hours of Breath of the Wild but want to watch a video that explains really well why the subsequent hundreds of hours did not hit nearly as well, his videos do a fantastic job breaking down every detail as to why the game did a great job in certain respects but failed so badly in others. Just be prepared to sit down for a while as some of the videos in part 3 of his series are VERY long.

    I really miss this game, even if I can play it whenever I want. I think part of the reason why it gets so little official love is because what the game series now is, this one sort of isn't. Numerous elements of Zelda are absent; no Master Sword, little to no instruction, many other iconic apparatus absent. Ganon was long ago abandoned for his overused, slightly less Saturday morning cartoon villain human form, Gdorf. To many younger players, and to Nintendo, it doesn't feel like Zelda; it would be worse than telling a big Street Fighter series fan to go back to SF 1, after they learned to love it with 2, 4, or really if an Alpha game was their first dip. It would be nice, but with no towns, so few NPCs, and the like, I don't think they could remake it on Switch in a good way it deserves. The second bit is price. They'd want to charge full price, and there's no way they could.

Level 7 requires the player to hunt for secret ways to find a basement shortcut, making the player basically push every single block there until they find the right one. This teaches the player a skill they will need in level 8 and, OMFG, level 9. I think that was the lesson (and point) of level 7.

      I suppose it does introduce that, but that doesn't mean the rest of the dungeon couldn't have been more challenging as well. That's a good take away though - it is important to understand the disjointed nature of Level 9 before entering it, and levels 7 and 8 introduce that concept.

    Fun video idea, I enjoyed the amount of work you put into this. With that being said, some of the swearing/cursing you were doing came off as gratuitous and kind of cringe at times.
    Also, yes, it's very enjoyable when games guide you rather than hold your hand, but some newbies or busy people find the "telling" much more convenient than "showing". Just because one kind of game design is engaging, doesn't mean another isn't. Skyward Sword is a good game, your opinion is valid but it is not a bad game.

      Hey, thanks for the feedback! I'll certainly take that comment on the cursing into account, though I do want to preface that, while the rants were hyperbolic, they still were filled with my genuine opinions; I hate the opening to Persona 5, and I was dumbfounded by the repeat boss at the end of Level 7.
      As for the second part, I think it's absolutely true that games can have different ways of teaching players and still be valid and fun experiences; for example, I love Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess, and both of those games have large swaths of tutorials and expository dialogue. Still, I think there's a difference between a game telling you how to play it, like OoT and TP, and a game that never lets go of the handlebars, like Skyward Sword. Besides that, there are large swaths of other issues I have with that game, like the inconsistent motion controls, the simplistic dungeon design, and the story, but that's going to be its own video some day.
      Thanks so much for your comment; you don't know how much it means to me to see something I made inspire discussion, which is what I want more than anything else out of this experience. And yes, I'll tone back the rants too; they probably were a bit much, in retrospect.

    and zelda and all was a fun journey ...its pretty cool and epic lore wise. for any real zelda fan it should be given a play.
    also og nes zelda was used as a protoype for what would become BOTW. lol interesting.
    anyhow. i think newer gen fans cant really handle the older games. on graphic style and on difficulty.
    especially the nes-snes-gb zeldas. but those are some of the best of the entire franchise.
    LTTP being my fav of all time.

    Hum... Well, despite being born in late '81 and desperately (peer pressure and excitement) wanting to play Zelda 1 when I got my NES, well... We had no money to speak of for games so I got bargain bin games mostly both for the NES and SNES. So still being AWARE of the Zelda francize up to that point my real true encounter with a Zelda game was OoT on my N64, both of which I spent my own hard earned money on.
    Linear games have never bothered me very much, I like focus on story and characters first. Open world games usually get in the way of that. That is why BotW is only in third place on my personal list below Twilight Princess and OoT. (If anyone is curious what is in fourth, that would be Skyward Sword, just sayin' ;-) )
    I think what I am TRYING to say here it that everyone have their own experience with Zelda et al, and I am perfectly happy to let them have their own meanings about them all. Just because they differ from my own does not make them WRONG in any way, it is all subjective. I mean my bottom tier on my list are quite beloved by others, and to be fair my list is all on the positive side but any game have to be by the nature of list be at the bottom. Only, some people feel by that that "you hate this game"! I don't. I just feel like the games further up on that list relates to me more. That does not mean they are better or worse, it is only my opinion.
    So what if I find Wind Waker a bit tedious or have some issues with the time mechanics of Majora's Mask. They are great games but I have... issues with them, especially the latter.
    And last, though I never GOT those first Zelda games in my youth I HAVE later played every single one, not all to completion but still. And I have seem LPs on most of them. Even the two VERY bad ones that are NOT canon in any way shape of form. True Zelda fans know what I mean, I do not want to sully the uniniciated, they might get the wrong idea eh? :-P

    Surprised that you said that it's necessary to get the white sword to kill Pols Voice in dungeon 5 but don't mention that it's much easier to use arrows to kill Pols Voice in 1 shot. And according to your video the player may have already picked up the bow to shoot arrows way back in dungeon 1.
    Good video otherwise.

      Imma be real with you, chief - I never thought to use the bow against them lol. You can seriously kill the Pols Voice with one arrow? It's insane just how many new things I learn about this game even after all these years, and after making an hour long review of it. Well, thank you so much for telling me that, and for the compliment on the video!

      @@octorokreviews I appreciate your honesty, also in your video. Sound genuine.
      Yeah, arrows actually kill multiple Pols Voices if you line your shot up well:
      th-cam.com/video/XpFyUVIYQAs/w-d-xo.htmlm30s
      The explanation is that Pols Voice in the Japanese version are killed instantly using the mic on controller 2 on the Famicom, so because the NES doesn't have a mic, the NES Zelda instead makes Pols Voice weak against arrows to compensate.

      @@octorokreviews Yeah it's wild how many secrets and how much game play depth there is to enjoy in this game that's 36 years old. I just beat for the first time a few days ago. The exploration and combat depth had me hooked and it was a struggle to not play all day and blow off work.

      @@dtape That's crazy. The funny thing is that I did a lot of research going into this review, especially about the original Famicom title, so I knew about the microphone killing the Pols Voice. But I never knew that the localization team added in a weakness to arrows to compensate for the loss of that mechanic overseas. I feel like I could play these games 100 times and still never figure out everything about them. Thank you so much for sharing that.

    What influence exactly has this game had on Breath of the Wild? I'm not sure I see it.

    • @octorokreviews

      The freedom the player has in doing each dungeon in any order he so pleases. The game structure in that sense is remarkably similar, and the devs are quoted as saying as much. They even made an early 8-but concept demo of the game that looked remarkably similar to the original Legend of Zelda.

    • @Raycloud
      @Raycloud ปีที่แล้ว

      @@octorokreviews I know they made an 8 bit concept demo but that's pretty flimsy. There are only four dungeons in Breath of the Wild, so doing them in any order doesn't amount to much. As for how the game structure is similar... how? I mean, you move around a world but that's about it.
      Not knocking BotW or Zelda1 here, but I just don't see how Zelda1 is more of an influence than any of the 3d Zelda games. It has more of Ocarina of Time's DNA than Zelda 1.
